Dave... Thanks bud. I have got the start of the rest of the plug boots done. I just need to do a little filing now and possibly a tad of bondo then its primer. I have been taking pics of the steps I am taking to make these and will show you when done. Steve... ahh man what a bummer they didn't have any in at Hobby Depot... sorry if I sent you on a wild goose chase there. sometimes it seems that they don't always get stuff back in. I have been there a few times for some 3/32" brass tubing and looks like I need to head to Hobby Lobby for it. That is cool you were able to find it on Ebay. Maybe a little easier to have sent directly to your house than to drive around for it...lol Brad.... That's a good idea about having some guys that want to go in on it to save on shipping. -
Bill... You are welcome for the Chassis shots. Hopefully they helped. Jeremy... Thank you! Eric... Thanks man! Christopher... thanks man. I was leaning towards the Giraffe myself but I have one more to throw in the mix to show you guys...lol I know the feeling all to well about being like a fish and seeing something shiny...lol Curt... You hit the nail on the head man!! I was actually thinking of painting the gold dash knobs with alclad to chrome them but I almost wonder what would happen if I just try to polish them if it will polish like brass or what it would look like. I also have already sourced some small bamboo material to do the bed like that. You know I am trying to make it to the NNL this year but I am not sure if I will be able to make it or not. I would love to make it out again because I had a blast last year. If I do make it I am not sure if I will have any builds with me or not depending on if I can get anything finished by then. So we will see. I would love to see some of my old Monterey Bay Area Scale Model buddies Ok guys... so I picked up another style of interior decal. I will for sure go with one of these two.... Giraffe hide or Cow Hide???? I think that both with go good with that blue & white combo of the body and interior. Tell me what you guys think.... Thanks!

Bill thank you for explaining what you use to solder. I need to pick up a mini butane torch and try that. I know that using my pencil iron can be challenging at times and I am trying be able to better my skills at soldering tubing. Do you happen to use flux when you solder?
-
This is a Very Cool Build. I am digging it. Nice Job!!!
-
Looking good so far. It is coming along!

Steve.... Nice looking color man. It looks sharp!!! What brand of paints did you use for the body?? You are sure on the home stretch.

Hey Bob... I apologize that I didn't respond to your post earlier. I must not of seen it or I had started my reply before you posted yours. Thank you for the kind comments. I do have the chassis tins done but haven't started on the body tins yet. I have done very little to the body but Real soon I will be starting on the body. I am actually anxious to get the body and inner structure done. I have been trying so hard to get the rolling chassis done before I start on the body. I only have a few what I call major things left before I call it good with the chassis. Getting the gas pedal moved as well as the mounting location for the Throttle (Morse) cable and then getting my steering gear box mounted and re doing the steering shaft. Then its the rest of the build is the engine and the body. You made me crack up with page count when it goes to under glass.... I am shooting for sooner than later because I want to finish this one really bad so I can start others in mind. Dave... you are welcome for it next to a coin. I should of thought of that the first time around. Mike... thanks bud I am really happy with the way it has turned out so far. So I have been messing around most of the after noon with this build. I finished making the other end of the morse cable. Then started back on the steering gear box which I drilled out and stuck in aluminum sleeves which will hold the steering shafts in and got a quick coat of primer but I need to put some bond and sand down so Its still in a rough shape. Then I started messing around with how I was going to do the spark plug boots for the valve covers and got 1 proto type done. Here are a few pics: Here is the Morse (throttle) cable as to what I am calling done for now until The engine goes in and I start installing it because I know I will have to cut the length down just a tad, sorry for the pic not being completely in focus I was having a tough time with my camera focusing in on it: Here is the steering gearbox sanded down with the aluminum tube added for the steering tubes: Here is the steering gearbox after a couple coats of primer, I need to add bondo to finish it: the Back side: Here is my first prototype of the spark plug boots on the valve covers, I think I found what will work : Another View: -

Joe... Thanks bud. I hope you can find it. if not let me know and I can check my local hobby shop for ya. I know they get the stuff from over seas ( Ibelieve from england, but can't remember) and not sure how often they get it or how long it takes them. Steve...Thanks for the kind comments.... Yes you could use these for the fuel shut off lever and fuel pump. I was planning on doing it the same or real similar for those myself. Danno... Just wait til you get to see it in person again Dave... What can i say but a Thank you to you. You have helped me out in so many ways that not many people know here on this build. You have always taken the time to respond when I have questions and show me the parts. And for that I am greatful and thankful to you. I am having to be creative in order to make these parts look as real as I can and I am pleased with the outcome so far. Thanks again Bud! -

Thanks Brad... I will be more than happy to give all the dimensions to the parts if anyone wants them. I still need to duplicate this for the end that will mount to the Injector Hat. but this will be simple now that I have it all worked out...lol As far as the holes in the frame... that was a little trickier and I basically used my pin vise drilling as close to center that I could in the rod with keeping the pin vise as flat to the chassis that I could I also over sized the hole just a tad so that when I glue the brass rod in I can make straight. Once I trim the U-shape piece I will fill the holes on the top side with bondo and you will never know it was there. So some of my progress has been slow but there are times I sit there and think how I can do this and you rack your brain trying to figure it out for hours..... then i walk away for a bit and it just hits me when I get back...lol -

Virgil... I like where this build is heading...Looking good so far. Did you drill the holes in the interior or did it come like that in the kit?? Digging It! -

Brad... Thanks Bud. The black pieces are different size distributor boots from RB Motion. I will show you. Tom... thanks man, I am trying to make this look as real as I can. Dave... Thanks Bud! I have a few shots to show with it next to a coin for you. Danno... you are right man. Mike.... Thanks bud. it means a lot making you guys proud. You are right it has been much slower than I have wanted but I have been so picky with myself on some stuff that I have reworked things more than once to make it look right for me. Joe... Thanks. I took a shot of the parts to show all what was done. Let me know and I could piece together the components on how I built it up. Steve... Thanks man.. the Gas pedal I used 1/32" Brass Rod and 1/32" Brass tube. I will let you know the size of the rods and tube I used for the morse cable in the pic I will show. Well Fellas.... I apologize that I didn't get any other pics up yesterday. Early in the afternoon I wasn't feeling so hot and was feeling I was trying to come down with a cold so I had laid down and was on the couch the rest of the day. Anyway today I am planning on sitting at the bench for as long as I can manage and get some more work done on this project today. Here is all of the parts that I pretty much started with other than the piece of styrene rod that I am using as my hold down that ties the cable to the chassis. The Red tubing which is the main portion for the cable is teflon tubing that is basically 1/32" OD That I got from one of the guys at a local swap meet. The Items that I am using for the rubber dust boots are 1/24th and 1/16th Distributor cap boots from RB motion. I was digging thru all of my aftermarket items and was thinking how I was going to make those boots. when I ran across these distributor cap boots I decided to see if they would work for what I was doing and they were a perfect fit. And then the rest of the cable is made up of different size Nickel Silver tube (0.7 mm OD X 0.5 ID), Nickel siver rod (0.45 mm OD) and aluminum tube (1.0 mm OD x 0.25 mm ID) from a company called Precision metals that I picked up from my local hobby store (The Hobby Depot in Tempe Arizona). this tubing is not the cheapest but then again K&S doesn't make sizes this small. Here is all of the components that make up just one end of the cable assembly. Note that I have two different cable end quick disconnects. If you guys want I could give you the dimensions of all of the pieces to the lengths that they were cut. just let me know and I will measure them for you. Here is the cable assembled next to a dime so you can get the idea at how small this is: Here is a mock-up of it in the chassis. I also had to create a mounting location for it. I had used 1/32" brass rod that I bent to a U-shape and then I used a photo-etch bracket that I glued on that the cable support would mount to. I still have to trim the U-Shape rod down and glue into place: -
Mark... Man these turned out very nice. Hoping I will get to see these in person at the desert scale classic in April this year. Seeing these builds is making me want to break out my 1/43rd scale Daytona Prototypes that I have from Provence Moulage. There is something about this scale that is just fun.

Bill... Thanks buddy. I am planning on working on this build for most of the day and hoping to make some good progress today. Was going to primer some stuff but It started raining last night. So we will see if I get a break on the rain and be able to primer on my patio...lol Rob... Thanks for the kind words. I sure know what you mean on how you can get burnt on a build. I am feeling a little that way at the moment with this but I am having tons of fun with it. It's one of the reasons I started a curbside build which i will tinker a little here and there on so I can finish something since its been 2 years since I have completed a model and how long I have been working on this funny car. I have learned a lot though through out the process of this bigger build that when I do my next one. It will go much faster. Jeff.... Thanks for the encouraging words. It means a lot. You are right that I have a vision with this build and its getting there, its been a little slower than I have wished for but with the out come that I want I feel its best not to rush it. But I am getting really close to finally be able to get the chassis painted and basically have a rolling chassis. Once I get my gas pedal stuff ( throttle cable...etc done) all really that is left for the cockpit area is to work on the searing gear box, make a fuel shut off lever (which I will probably draw up today and make out of printing plate). Then I need to get the mounting hole drilled into the chassis. Then it is clean up work on the chassis (sanding the primer and fixing a few blemishes and a little bondo work) then I should be good to go for a last coat of primer and then ready for paint. Also my front Axle is pretty much done I just need to primer it again and then its ready for Alclad chrome. Although I am going to do a spoon test with the alclad Chrome because i want to see how it looks with and with out their specific clear over it. I have been wondering if it would knock the shiny down on it or not because I really want to have clear over it to protect it from touching it, so it doesn't loose its finish. I will also see what I can do about a mock up shot for ya. Ok Fellas.... little sneak peak of what I though of last night and started and messed a little more on the Morse cable ( the throttle cable). I think I have really found a great way to make these look realistic. anyway gonna show you a quick pic and when I get a little more of it done I can break down some pics to show you all how to make it and what exactly I used on it. Here is the Morse cable, now its not completely finished I need to get the length correct and make the connecting fitting. I have only worked on the side that will connect to the gas pedal but the opposite side that hooks up to the linkage on the injector hat should pretty much be the same: -
Rob... I sure hope its another 1/16th scale build that you will dust off or start . I totally know the feeling with some back burner projects. I have a 1/16th Scale FED I started over 16 years ago and I got the body painted before I started my 1/16th scale Army Vega Build. I have realized I don't like the kits radius rods and I want to go back and remove them and redo those. But I want to just finish it because It is going to be a cool build to sit on the shelf but won't have near the detail that this funny car does but I just want to get it done. I am having a hard time just wanting to start something else because I Have a goal of getting the funny car done by the end of April.... then lets say I Have about 15 1/16th scale projects I have written down I would like to do.... along with a few 1/25 & a couple 1/43rd...haha
-
Mark... Very Nice work. I think this looks great.

Hello Fellas... Been a few days since I posted updates... and I have a small one that I want to show you that I worked on this week. As I mentioned that I had my gas pedal to far back so I finally was able to get it moved to the correct location and looks much better. Besides that I added a little more to the gas pedal, the pieces that the morse cable fore the throttle linkage will connect too. I am currently working on how I am going to make the morse cable look like it should, so stay tuned for that. I should have pics up tomorrow with the proto type of it...lol Here is the new location of the mounting plate that the gas pedal will mount too. You can see just to the right of it where I cut the old mounting tabs out: Here is the modified gas pedal that I added some more detail to. A big Thanks goes to Dave (Comp1839) because he showed me how the cable should connect to the pedal: And a mock-up of the gas pedal in place: -
Now here is a little update of what I have done this week so far.... I was able to get the seat glued together and it's ready for some bondo then primer. I also started messing with the dash removing all of the molded in knobs and using some small nails/rivets for the new knobs. I also started cleaning up the interior bucket and messing with two different types of material to try and match what was in the reference pics I took of the truck since it had something different than carpet or paint.
