57 chevy pro mod w.i.p (updates 11/11/12)

Tyrone that chassis is a work of art my friend. it looks great and I love the mocked up pick with tje body. man its killer. -
Rom beat me too it with using the blow dryer. I have done it that way was well. another thing you may want to do is after you heat and bend the tube you can dip it in cold water or turn the blow dryer on to the cold air setting. It seemed like it helped set it in place for me that way. the dipping in water is kind of like quenching metal that has been heated up.

Mike... Thanks buddy.... feels great to have this behind me now. Dave.... It is finally there bud. Thank you for your help that you provided me with. I know its a shocker that its finally in primer...lol Bill... thank you man. I am totally excited. There is still some more chassis work in regards to steering and other details but I know I am in need of a break from the chassis. So I will be focusing on the engine for a bit. Joe... thank man. When you get to that point when you shoot primer, it will be that milestone you couldn't wait to get to. Rom.... Thank you Buddy!! so happy to have it in primer now. But I will have to admit that there are a few spots that I will be going back with some bondo and touching a few things up that I could not see before. But for now I am calling it good...lol Keith... thanks man. Looking forward to chatting with you on Saturday. Richard.... thanks man. Now I can't wait to get paint on it and see how that looks...lol. I have a few cool things I am gonna do with the engine. Bart.... You can say it its about time...lol I don't think I wanna see another tab for a while...haha. Just wait til you see how I detail the tabs out. I have had an idea for a while that I was going to do but it will have to wait until I get paint on it. But then again I may be able to mock it up. John... thank you Bud!! I am super excited that I can finally move onto building more of this build now. Niko... Thank you. I have to agree that it looks good in primer was getting tired of seeing it in bare plastic...lol Stay tuned my friend. I have some cool things I want to do to the engine. I will tell you that there will be various Alclad paints that will be used on it. As well as some other cool details I am planning for it. So no real big update for the evening. I did pull the rear end out and sprayed it with some more primer. Actually used some red oxide color primer just to break it up for the show this coming weekend. I did start to tear the engine down, removing all of the bolts and it will be ready to get put into the Whestly's white wall bleach tomorrow when I get off work. since it is resin, I don't want to take any chances with the paint and will soak it for a while then give it a quick bath in some dawn soapy water. Stay tuned and hope to have more for you tomorrow. We will see what I can get done. -
Brad... that roll bar padding is sweet. I can't wait to see this on Saturday.
-
Dave.... I sure wish I could make it to NNL East to see your beautiful builds in person.

Nice work Joe on the master cylinder bracket. It looks great. I have to ask why brand lathe and mill do you have?? I really have been considering them. Actually I want want them bad but can't figure which I should go with. I have been looking at the Sherline's and the Micro mark ones but think I am leaning more towards the Sherline though.

Well I know this Update has been long overdue and many people have been anxious for it. As Brad said it earlier.... it was Primer Sunday. I was finally able to get primer on the Chassis very excited and happy to be at this point with the chassis. I was very pleased with how the primer turned out and was able to notice a few spots on the chassis that I need to fix. No biggie was expecting it to be like that in a few areas since I couldn't totally see with just the raw materials. I sprayed a total of 4/5 coats of primer on it. Now I can start getting to the engine and tinkering with that. Going to get back to the build and start with some engine stuff. gonna even try to get some engine parts primered. I need to break the engine down by taking all of the hardware out and then give the resin parts a nice little bath in the Whestly's white wall bleach. Here are a few of the long waited primer pics. Thank you for looking This also feels like a big milestone and finally past the chassis rebuild hump. The very first coat of primer was given in a light mist: Didn't want to bore you with pics of each coat, so here is after the final primer coat: Opposite side: -
Joe... thanks for the Spring info buddy. I am gonna have to swing by one of the harbor frieghts here and pick up a box of those. Oh man I know what you mean about having tiny parts fly out of the tweezers. I have done that a few times with the small nuts and bolts. There have been a handful that I couldn't find...lol
-
Curt.... Looking good buddy. Nice work on this build!
-
Joe.... Killer work on the master cylinder. It's little details like this that makes our build pop. I really need to get myself a miniature lathe. I wanted to ask you again which I could probably dig thru the post here on where you go the springs that you changed out on your struts and coilovers?? I know the springs you switched too looked perfect for these. Thanks man!

Niko... this is looking good bud! you are making head way with the chassis. Keep at it.

57 chevy pro mod w.i.p (updates 11/11/12)

Tyrone....you are just killing this build man. the chassis is looking great! Looking forward to your next update. -
Dave.... Thank you for the clarification. Now I know what I will have to do when I get to my pro mod build. Plus it makes sense for safety reasons as well.
-
Greg.... Nice Progress Mate.... The chassis is looking great! The clutch linkage looks awesome. I do have to ask you are you drilling out the rod end so you can slip the tub into it. I think it looks great that way. Keep up your awesome work. Cheers!

Clay...Thank you for answering my question. I didn't realize some teams had welded in one side of the floor. Then I realized that I over looked the Dzus fastener tabs on the passenger side of the car and on the driver side there were none. I can't wait to see what you have in store for the spot welds and how you do it. That is going to look sweet as well as when you get the chassis painted and how the rest of the panels will be carbon fiber. love the updated pics. You are making great progress and it is looking great. That steering column is just killer. Keep up the great work you are doing. Thanks again for sharing.

Greg.... Yep better to realize now I forgot the tabs but it wouldn't of been the end of the world if I had to add the tabs after primer but was glad I caught it before hand. Brad... it was great to chat yesterday for a few. Thanks for noticing a few things and pointing them out. Glad I got those last few tabs in. And yes today is Primer Sunday. I am getting ready to pull stuff out and all I need to do is figure how I am going to hold the chassis while I primer it. I am going to have to rig up some wire so I can hold it while I spray. So I will have some pics in a little while for ya. Gabriel.... I can't tell you how stoked I am to finally be able to lay some primer down on this bad boy. Yep I will be at the DSC next week and this build will be with me . Looking forward to seeing you. -

Richard.... Thank you man, I am excited about the primer....Oh yeah! Bob... Thank you. Looking forward to moving on to more of this build and I will have this one finished for sure for next years NNL West Jason... Thank you for the kind word bro and for following along. It should get even better now that I am going to be jumping back to the engine. Kane... Thanks man!! Joe.... Thanks Bud!! Its a shame that I have to cover this all up with primer but I have to say that I am glad too since it means I am making progress Danno... This will be with me on saturday... Greg... Thanks Mate for the kind words.... got your PM and I will get that stuff out Monday for ya. Tyrone.... You are right Bro, It is sure paying off and I can't tell you how pleased I am with it so far. So glad I went back and made all of those changes that I did. Totally worth it. Scott...Thanks man... totally appreciate it. Bart.... Thanks Buddy!! yeah its a shame to cover up all of this work but I think everyone will have to agree it's about time I get some primer on it. I am thinking that the details will stand out... oh you are gonna laugh at what I am about to post with your tabs comment...lol So I ran into a little speed bump tonight and didn't actually get to shoot the primer like I was wanting to. I was tearing down the car to be able to primer it and I realized that I left some more tabs off this and figured that I better add them before I shoot the primer. So it puts the primer one day behind . I have been working on the tabs and got them done and glued in place. So first thing I will do tomorrow on this is shoot my primer. Sorry to delay and keep you guys hanging for one more day but Promise some primer pics tomorrow. Here are the Tabs that I missed for the 2 piece plate that will go around the drive line:
