Thanks for the kind words Wayne. I have to agree that this printers aluminum is awesome to work with. Hopefully you won't run out for a while. I did a little more work on this and started to make the floor bottom of the driver area. I started out by making a template out of a 3x5 card and then transfered the template to the printing plate, cut it out and then bent it to shape. I still have more work to do on it and am thinking how I am going to change it upHere is more progress pics.... Here is the template that I made on the right and the part I made on the left: stuck the part in the frame to see how it fit: Added the side panels to see how it all looked together, I still have to drill holes in the sides of the bottom piece for the fasteners: Shot of the driver area, although I am thinking of changing it up a little bit and the area the drive line comes thru I am going to cut away and make out of 1 or 2 pieces have totally decided yet: The other side, Also need to drill holes in the bottom piece for the fasteners: -
Hey Brad... Really sorry to hear that you threw your back out. That just stinks. I hope you are able to recover fast. Look forward to seeing you get back to this build when you are feeling better. Rest up and get well soon.

Brad... this stuff is great to work with, cuts easy with scissors or a knife. You know from the pics I couldn't see any more bead rolls but I was thinking of adding some on the front part of it to make it have a little more. Here is the pic I have of that panel and I can't see any more beads that what I put on there. on the bottom there is a bottom panel that goes over the sides: Darryl... thanks man I had to practice the bead rolls with a few different objects to see what created them the best. -

Thanks Randy... Gotta give Jim aka... Micro Nitro Credit for those and RB Motion for the valve stems. It feels good having these panels Done, other than paint. -
Looking good Niko... if you arent able to remove that rear wing easily like you want too. You could always cut it off by scribing it. Lay down a few layers of masking tape or fine line tape to use as a guide and take your time scribbing it til you remove the piece. I am sure its going to look great witht he new spoiler you are gonna do for it.

Here is an upclose pic of one of the plates so you can see that the bead was formed: And last but not least of this update I had to set it on the chassis and set the bolts in place which are representing the Dzus Fasteners: I have to thank Brad (Gasser59) again for giving me some of the printing plate material and the suggestions on how him and I talked about to create the bead in the material. Thanks again Brad. Alright I am off to work more on this. not sure what I will work on at the moment. I think I may try and fab up the plate piece that goes underneath the driver area and I am thinking I am going to redo my fuel hold down strap with some of this printing plate. -

So I just got done redoing the side panels. Very Pleased with the out come. I won't waste anymore time and here are the pics.... I went back and started from the beginning again. Drawing out the pattern on the printing plate and transfer drilling the holes: Next was to cut them out using a ruler as a guide and taking my xacto knife and making multiple passes on cutting it. Once I was done cutting it out I then took my standing stick and sanded the burrs off the edges and then scuffed the plate with Scotch-Brite: Here is the finished product after I finished scuffing the plates up. I then drew with my pencil the lines I was going to follow with my ball point pen to create the bead rolls. The curves were created by laying one of my drafting circle templates used as a guide: Here is the back side of the panels, you can still see some of the blue ink from the pen on the plate got most of it off with rubbing alcohol: -

well just a little teaser for the moment. I decided to just make the part out of the printing plate after I tested a few more bead rolling techniques.... Figured i would be wasting my time making them out of plastic when I was wanting to use the printing plate. Anyway I got one made and am really happy with it other than I messed with it to much and made a small little bend in area that made it stand out to me. So I will be redoing this but now that I have done one. redoing this one and making the other side sould be a breeze now. This stuff is really nice to work with and I can't thank Brad enough for bringing some to me when I saw him at a local swap meet and for his advice on ideas on how to bead roll it. It worked perfect. here's a few pics. I started out with the plastic template that I had made. Traced with with a pencil and then once i was done tracing it with a pencil with out moving it, actually holding it down. I grabbed my pin vice and transfer drilled the holes so they would be in the right location: After I got it traced and drilled the holes I then cut it out with my xacto knife laying a ruler down on the material and running the knife along it to get a nice straight cut. After I had cut the material to shape I took one of my sanding sticks and sanded the little edge down and flipped the part over drew the lines where I wanted to run the bead roll and ended up using a ball point pen pressing down a small piece of rubber to form the bead roll and here is the results I got : Alright time for me to get back at and make the other side and redo this one and the bottom piece as well. -
Beautiful work John... This car sure turned out nice and you did an awesome job on it. the detail is just amazing. Wondering what you have in store for your next build to share with us. I can't wait.

Hey Brad, Thanks man for trying a few methods out and showing me. I am going to try out a few things here to see if I have something that would work. I just remembered that I do have a small piece of harder rubber that I need to try out cause I know when I used a magazine as the backer it didn't work quite as well. I think you are right about keeping the right abmount of pressure on it too. I really do like how #3 looks gotta see what I can do to acheive that. I need to grab me some coffee and get back on this build ... Gonna be a full day of working on this and maybe doing a few house chores in the mix lol -

Brett... No offence taken at all. I appreciate all of the kind words Sometimes I think I may be a little crazy doing some of the detail that I am . I can't tell you how much I can't wait to get some primer on some parts. I still have a few more brackets to make and glue to the chassis. I nee dto get the motor mount brackets done and I am thinking of redoing the kits steering linkage bracket as well. there is also going to be some clean up of the chassis I will still need to do by adding a little bondo and I have clean up work on the rear end mounts that I cut and moved to get the car to have a better stance in the back by lowering it. I just though of something else I need to make....some sort of a bracket for the master cylinder for the brakes which would mount it to the chassis. -

Thanks Niko. I am hoping to make some great progress on this tomorrow. Those valve stems were that added touch to the rims. I am hoping to have those side panels done tomorrow too. I think I am gonna do a set out of styrene but am really wanting to go with some thin gage metal. So really the styrene ones will be the back up plan , granted they are going to end up being painted so I guess no one would really know . you know another way to replicate bolts is to use push pins from some sort of craft store. they kind of look like a button head screw a little. -
Niko... the frame is off to a good start. I know cleaning the frame up by removing the mold line is time consuming. Trust me the first few nights when I first started my Vega F/C it felt like thats all I did, but totally worth it in the end. Keep up the great work.

Brett... this is awesome to see another Vega Funny car on here. this is gonna be a nice build and its off to a good start

Made a tad more progress tonight. I started out by drilling out my rims for RB Motion Valve Stems. Then I jumped back onto gluing the rest of the Dzus Fastener tabs onto the chassis. Happy with getting that done and gonna let it dry overnight again. Here are a few pics of the progress of tonight. Here is the Rims and the Valve Stems: Here is the completed Rims with the Valve Stem just stuck in place. I am planning on Polishing the rims before I end up gluing the valve stems in place: Here is the rest of the Dzus Fasteners glued in place: -

Brad... Thanks man. I will have to let you know how things go tomorrow with what I try. I appreciate you trying a few methods out. -
Hey Mark... 1. There are some great bulds to check out for how the doors mount to some of the tube chassis cars out there. the first few people that come to mind are Eviltwincustoms 1/16th scale camaro http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47419&st=20 , Baddgas's 1/16th scale camaro http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43293&st=120 , Any of Tyrone's builds http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48698&st=40 , Any of 1320Wayne's builds and Romell's Daytona Pro Mod build over in "On the workbench" area 2. I would say clear evergreen styrene but I also believe there is another product which is clear acetate? someone correct me if I am wrong as I have never used it before 3. As far as removing the bumper thats molded in versus using a 66 Novas kit bumer and PE grill, it really depends on the type of car you are trying to build. if you are wanting to go with something that has a fiberglass front end then I would mold your bumper in or if you were wanting more of a bracket racer you could go the bumper and PE grill. with paint if you go molded in/fiberglass style you could go with painting the bumper an aluminum color, paint it body color, paint it black. depending on the colors you are gonna paint the body I may go with something that would blend in and fit the build. Ok so I went back and read what you wrote again, I missed it that it was a pro mod that you were doing. I would personally go the route of leaving the bumer molded in and some how 4. there are many good resources for pictures out there. just type in different types of drag racing race cars on google images and you will find a bunch. 5. same thing I would say search google. I have something I drew up years ago on some plumbing for some pro mods, will see if I can find and post. 6. My biggest piece of advice is to just take your time and not rush things. Have plenty of patience too. I don't really know where you are at with your building skills but try not to let yourself get too far over your head at once. It took me years to get to where I am now. some of it comes with practice and not being afraid to try something new. 7. I am gonna add another to your list as far as some great aftermarket companies out there. Charlie at Pro Tech has a bunch off cool aftermarket items ( photo etch, resin) and he is a great guy to do business with as well as the best braided line in the business. RB Motion is my choice when it comes to A/N Fittings. Scale hardware for small nuts and bolts. Jim at Micro Nitro when it comes to turned aluminum rims. I know i am leaving off other great vendors And don't be afraid to ask questions. there are so many talented builders on this site and great to talk with. I am blown away by many of the peoples builds here.

Tyrone... Thanks man. I just think the Dzus fasteners will be a nice touch. Darryl... thanks man. I have to agree with you with the level of detail that can be achieved out there these days with all of the aftermarket items that we have to choose from. Just wish there was more 1/16th scale stuff Well guys I am starting to work on this for the night and should have some updated pics in a bit, Gonna start with getting the rims drilled for the valve stems and then get on Dzus fastener tabs on the other side of the chassis. Then not sure what i wanna work on . Also gonna get the resin engine soaked in good ole Whestly's white wall cleaner.
