  1. I hear the "lock topic" button about to be pushed.....................
  2. Easy Off Oven Cleaner (Yellow Can) I've found to be the best way. Just to be careful..........make sure you've got rubber gloves, and you might want to put the model in a separate room covered up so you're not breathing the fumes.
  3. Like Steve, I also fit my windows well in advance. I like to put a "ridge" or "lip" inside the body, as the following pics will show on a Turbine car build I did a few years ago............... I make a tracing on a 3x5 card of the window opening, and then transfer the tracing to some clear stencil sheet (acetate). After the body is painted and polished, then I install the windows. I have some more detailed info on how I did this in the link below..............Your mileage may vary. 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car
  4. Here's your pic Jeremy and welcome! Nice looking Merc!
  5. Cruz, thanks for the compliment-----and that Victoria is dynamite!! I'm tellin' ya........if you put that car against a real background, it would be hard to tell from the 1:1. Absolutely fabulous!
  6. I did try something like what Jairus drew years ago on my stillborn '64 GTO, and they did work as described. Here's a few pics of what I did with it............... The hinges I did were the scissor type like the 1:1......but they didn't hold up due to the softness of the brass. If I were doing this car again today (or if I ever decide to rebuild it), I would make the hood removable in some sense, and still have the hinges intact. Hope this helps!
  7. Okay! I thought I was right about this one! One of the things I noticed as beautiful as this model is------was the roofline didn't have that right Toronado "swoop" to my eyes. Now that of course is subjective, as seeing it from other angles it's dang near perfect! Also, the model is missing an antenna.......one of the items I'm sure was standard for all Toros for 1966 was at least an AM radio. One of the things I never noticed about Toros is that their windshield wipers were not in tandem, but in an opposed position and overlapping. Something I've never took note of in all the years I've seen this car since I was a kid. I've got to look up and see who built this FANTASTIC model! I couldn't rival something like this in a million years! TOTALLY SCRATCHBUILT?? Wow!!
  8. Gorgeous Imperial! The glass doesn't look bad-------resin kits though are one of those things that you have to test fit the glass over and over. That's just the nature of the beast. I'd love to pick up one of those kits as I like anything Mopar from '57-'59.
  9. Cruz!! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL interior!!
  10. Very nice work on those doors Jeff! You would be right about the trim-------every '66 GT I've ever seen did not have the cove chrome streaks.
  11. Sigh.........I sure do miss being back down there! Looks like some terrific eye candy for sure! Congrats on the win! Who did this super-detailed beauty here??
  12. Ahhhh....that new windshield frame suits that nicely now!
  13. Almost Andy, but not quite! I could be all wet, but we'll see!
  14. Hmmm..........I just learned a styling aspect of this car I never noticed before! I don't want to give it away before the answer's revealed however. Edit: BTW, I'll be the lone one (so far) and vote model--------I won't say why though until it's all over!
  15. Kenn, just as an observation--------that windshield would look really cool if you were to shape it more in the manner of GM's 1957-58 C-bodied cars. They had a steep forward rake to them which would suit the lines of what you're doing. Since this is a '55 Styling Study, that would have been the model years they would have been working on at the time. Keep up the FANTASTIC work............Lookin' real good so far!
  16. Well, I want to finish this one and looking at the pic, one would think that there's not much to do yet................. What's the problem you ask?? The roof is showing the body-work that was done right down the center! A faux pas on my part as I didn't prep it quite right before painting. It's not super noticeable, but enough that it bothers me a great deal. The only solution for me would be to either take the front and rear glass out and paint/strip everything, or mask off the windows and sand everything down to bare plastic as much as possible, and prime/paint from there. Also, my '64 Olds 442 is stalled due to another warped resin hood! Between the two, I'll probably finish that one first as I'm going to take a page from KennB and scratch a hood from sheet plastic. Only thing missing may be the lettering, but hey!
  17. I have nothing to add, only to say that this is just plain WILD!! And I thought I was heroic just scratch-building a hood for my '66 Nova years ago! Keep up the fantastic work! I have yet to attempt scratch-building an entire body out of just plain flat plastic!
  18. Luis!! Glad to see you back man! The body work on that Merc is lookin' great! Keep us posted!
  19. Don't forget Modelhaus's excellent '70 Ford wagon, which can be a transkit for that '70 Galaxie Police Car.
  20. I personally put it on after clearcoat if I put on clear at all. Contrary to popular belief, Bare Metal Foil DOES NOT need to be cleared at all! If one takes their time, and burnishes it properly, BMF should need NO clear coat. I have cars that I foiled 15+ years ago that are still OK with no clear over them. One other tip that no one's mentioned but is VERY important------BMF is only as good as your paint underneath. BMF will NOT cover over a bad paint job or body work that is substandard. Having said this, it's important that your paint is rubbed out and is as smooth as possible. I've seen nice builds that have been otherwise marred by BMF that is very wrinkly, from the paint underneath not being rubbed out properly. ...........And yes, I've put BMF over waxed paint jobs. If you take your time and burnish your foil properly, your BMF should go over a waxed paint job and look fantastic when done well. Hope all this helps!
  21. Wow! All I can say is....................
  22. Now THAT gave me a hard laugh!!
  23. Hmmm..........I dunno Roger. Here's a pic of the test shot I swiped off the Spotlight Board...........I don't see an uptop or a hardtop on the runners anywhere. Interestingly, I see the glass which would be for the hardtop-----Probably for a future release. I hate when they do that though. That's what makes '56-'62 'Vettes IMO.........their hardtops! Ditto about the '69 Camaro.........including an uptop should have been automatic.
  24. Christian, I was planning on doing the same thing! I was going to go with Revell's '59 however, and turn the whole works into a '61. Now with the '62 coming out, that should make my job a LOT easier. My only disappointment in the kit so far, is that there's no hardtop included-----at least that's what preliminary reports of what the kit will contain says. I hope at least the kit has an uptop, otherwise there's always the parts bin.
