Brian, that is a pure MASTERPIECE!! Those were the days when the Ferrari look and sound was unmistakable! True they're distinct today, but those lines, those curves, that sound! Ain't you glad you finished it!??

Trumpeter GT 40
MrObsessive replied to purplehornies's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, the front clip is a bit different also on the '68-'69 car. The front and rear fenders on those seem to be "swoopier" on the sides than the Mark II. That's one of the things that held me back from buiding the Fujimi car. The fenders aren't bulky enough for the Fujimi Gulf cars to my view. I've got a Le Mans Miniature resin though which looks like it has the correct fender shapes but the resin is/was a real pain to deal with when I tried building it years ago. The resin has a "memory" which made me give up on it until I found a way to get around it. ..................but finishing it is for another time! -

Sorry about that Chris! I've had the account for awhile now and never knew that it was private viewing only! Unlike Fotki, I guess the private viewing is by default. You should be able to see them now with no problem. Click here for the link.............. -

You're reading my mind Bob, as that '68-9 car is the one I really want! I may spring for this one as who knows with the world economy how much longer companies like this will be able to produce models of this caliber. 260 bucks though is some serious dough for a kit-------------but considering Model Factory Hiro kits go for as much and in 1/24 scale, this is looking like a bargain! -

For those of you interested, here is a link to a bunch of pics showing the GT40 test shot at a Japanese (I think) show. These were DIFFICULT to get for some reason off that site some time back...................but I struggled with it and got all of them downloaded for all to see on Photobucket if you'd like. I wanted to put them on Fotki, but they're having a SEVERE case of indigestion lately and pics aren't uploading for some reason there-----at least on my end. Enjoy! -

Looking further at the specs of the kit.............this will be one of the most detailed 1/12 kits I've seen with this much detail!! At the rate I build, it'll take me two years to finish! I had to laugh at this one line................."Locking steel clips on real steel cable ensure that front bodywork stays closed at high speed." Is this thing gonna run too?? I better go on a crash diet so I can give 'er a whirl! -

Thanks for the heads up! I'm really looking forward to this model! At $260 though------I better start saving my pennies! -

Fujimi's Resin body kits
MrObsessive replied to FujimiLover's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If I were you, I'd use 5 min epoxy instead of the quick setting CA stuff! This will give you some "wiggle room" to get things where you want 'em instead of in a flash such as the super glue. Trying to separate resin parts with the super glue is nigh impossible and you'll most likely end up with a damaged part. Since you're new to resin, I would stay away from the CA glues. You can check your local hobby shop for 5 min. epoxy------if not there, certainly the hardware stores carry it. As far as cleaning..........Dawn Power Dissolver, Easy Off (Yellow Can), Westley's Bleach White, are all really good for getting the mold release agents off the resin. Do use rubber gloves if using any of these products though as these are quite caustic and can cause skin damage for certain. -
NOOOOOO!!! You killed Mary Kaye!! I fully understand Bro! I've stripped my share of bodies in my modeling life! So what other color did you have in mind Cruz?

I have only one comment to this entire thread------------"Results follow desire". You want it bad enough, you gotta follow through and do what it takes to achieve the intended result. 'Nuff said. -

Suicide or Normal Door Hinges?
MrObsessive replied to TwistedFabrication's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I wrote a detailed article about opening and hinging doors in the November '08 issue of Model Cars Mag. I featured the "gooseneck" type hinges------the type where the door swings outside the body. The guinea pig was a '55 Chevy Bel Air sedan which may be a future project to build and finish up. It was pretty in depth and it's well worth the money to pick up a back issue! -
If you like waiting forever for paint to dry then it's all good! Frankly, I don't have that kind of patience, (I like using a dehydrator) and nothing beats Plastikote for sandability, and drying reasonably fast. I take it you were talking about the enamel paints in Testor's primer white----------If not disregard the above comment. Testor's lacquers aren't too bad, but for the price you're better off with the Plastikote.

Sigh...............Fotki just kills me! It's annoying with the slightest little change you want to make to your pics, all of them from previous posts on the 'net somehow end up in the cyber bit bucket! Anyway, my original pics on page one of my '58 are back on now in this thread.................. Clay, that Stude is on my to do list after I finish the Cougar II------but it's a competing thought to either rebuild that, or to make an all new Shelby "Green Hornet" since I have all the parts needed to make that one now. The Shelby's kinda in the lead as I want to get away from '50's cars for awhile. Then there IS that '55 Ford that's been collecting dust due to a door problem................

MrObsessive replied to B_rad88's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Those are braces for the body work. You'd cut them away and clean up the tabs, then put in the hood, trunk, and doors which are elsewhere on the tree. I have this one also (still sealed in the plastic)-------I built one many years ago in the mid '80's and it goes together quite well. I can't remember any weird foibles about the kit. It's nice also that they give you an uptop which is not often seen on any street Cobra. -
who made a 1/16 scale shelby cobra 427?
MrObsessive replied to B_rad88's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There was a 1/32 scale done years ago (I don't remember the maker). Harold Bradford of Historic Racing Miniatures does an absolutely beautiful 1/24 scale one done in resin based on the old Gunze Sangyo kit, but his has full engine detail among other things. His are around $165-------at least that's what I paid for mine a few years ago. Model Factory Hiro also does a Daytona Coupe.......but expect to pay $200+ for one of those. Here a few pics and a link to Harold's Fotki page featuring all the parts. -
O.T. Any advice on this situation?
MrObsessive replied to Willy Survive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The sad thing about all this fellas is that this is just the tip of the iceberg! I hate to be a downer, but I don't see a bottom to all this just yet. The company I work for had just told us the other day that there won't be any more layoffs "for now". Problem is though, I get to see what's comin' down the pike and I don't see a heck of a lot of work to keep us busy without more forced/mandatory furloughs, vacation cuts, cut in salary etc. Yes I'm glad to be working at the moment at what I'm doing........but I'm taking things one day/week at a time. Hate to be a pessimist, but I foresee a looooooong, hot, terrible summer ahead.............. -

Looking at their web site, it doesn't appear you can order directly from them--------just an information request form. They do however have a bunch of dealers located in Florida with phone numbers listed, so you have a choice there likewise. -

O.T. Any advice on this situation?
MrObsessive replied to Willy Survive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well seeing what most of the guys are saying here, I've got to agree that without plentiful jobs to go around in this era-------you'll either have to deal with the situation, or hit the door. I work in manufacturing (electronics end) and we just had a MAJOR layoff on my job. Where I work there were whole departments let go, and there was no rhyme or reason as to who was let go. There were folks who were there as little as a year, to those who worked there nearly 40 years who were given their walking papers. They were given severance pay and whatnot, but how long will that last? I feel for you man-------while I don't have any kids and don't have to worry about those things, I can certainly understand the terrible position this puts you in. My advice is to try to do the best job you can while you're there-------but in the meantime you're always looking, always planning. -

If all else fails------there's always eBay! Click here to see a bunch of listings for Aclad. As Dave mentioned, you can't beat it for simple to apply chrome! As far as any clear coat..............I've heard of guys using Future to protect the finish, and it doesn't seem to affect the reflectivity of the chrome. -
Rob, is this what you're looking for? Ken Hamilton I think originally posted it here, but it's nice that it's on his Fotki page. HTH!

heads up for the new BMF
MrObsessive replied to LVZ2881's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, I bought the "new" sheet a little while back and I'll be using it down the road on the interior of the Cougar II. Preliminary testing shows that it does stick a lot better than the previous sheet I had. I'll definitely be posting pics of the interior with the new stuff down the road. Stay tuned..............
