  1. Beautiful engine work Matt! I have this kit as I won it off the 'Bay a few years ago.............but alas, it sits in the box untouched. The guy even threw in an extra built engine.......... I wanna definitely watch this one! 8)
  2. Wow! Those look great Art! 8) You've got more patience than I when it comes to scratchbuilding something like that!
  3. Looking at the wheels in my kit.......I'd have to say that they are not far off from Izzy's. I have two that are so-so, and the other two that would definitely need some putty work. At least if R/M gets the body and the wheels right, I can kitbash the rest.........
  4. Aaaaaahhh!! Okay, I may as well hold up to see what they do with theirs.............but I bet ya they'll still be using that unbearable plastic.
  5. Hmmm......Tamiya's doing a version of this??? :?:
  6. Sigh.............. This is one of the things I'm going to rant about this weekend in a post to all the model companies when I get time. I really want to build this car just like the concept car as it appeared at last years NAIAS. But those wheels and particularly those terrible sink marks are a MAJOR turnoff!! Looks like if want the model I want with proper looking wheels, I'll have to break out the trusty 'ol Dynatron Putty-Cote............:x
  7. Niiiiiiice Job!! 8) Now you've got me interested in one of those..............there are several at my LHS that are callin' my name now!
  8. I'm gonna do mine (eventually) in Inferno Red Metallic. I have the paint already as I got it at the same time I got the Sunset Orange for the Corvette. There's a 1:1 that lives just down the street from me and it's a gorgeous color!
  9. .................Wait until you see the wheels! :? :x
  10. Aaahhh! I knew it wouldn't be too long before someone started one of these here! 8) I'm gonna be hangin' on every word Ken as this is my next model after I finish the Corvette. The engine looks really good! Do you have a body color picked out yet? Keep us posted! 8)
  11. I swear by a putty called Dynatron Putty-Cote. It's a Bondo product that can be found at an auto body supplier shop. If you'd like, take a look at an old thread of a '55 Ford I was working on, where I've used this putty. Just click HERE..... Also there's a link in that thread to my Fotki page where there's more detailed photos of the work I did with Dynatron.
  12. Erik, you can try the technique I did on my '05 'Vette that I'm doing right now. Grind away the door handle like you would any trim or script on the body..........'til it's flush with the bodywork. Then take some liquid glue (I highly recommend Ambroid Pro-Weld) and brush over the area that you've sanded. You'll notice that the area shows up again because of the hot solvents in the glue. Once the area has fully dried, sand the area again........... and the ghosting should not occur because now you've taken away the "memory" of the plastic that was molded in. Once you paint over this area......there should be no ghosting because whatever paint you use, it's not as "hot" as actual glue itself. Give it a shot!
  13. Yeah Len, they were pretty much the same. Just dulled down a bit for vinyl. (Leather?)
  14. Welcome Scott! That's an excellent build! One of my favorite Bill Mitchell designs from that era! 8) GM could have used another "Bill Mitchell" in the last few years...............but they're coming around now.
  15. Today I decided since I have off…….......might as well start to color coat it. I sprayed the Sunset Orange paint into an airbrush jar (no thinner needed) and applied very light coats to the body, hood, and mirrors. I think the results turned out very well as the following pics show……………… The roof section will get painted black, as I’ll try to replicate what would be the glass roof option for this car. I’m gonna clearcoat the heck out of it as I want the finish to be well…….......like glass! I’ve noticed that this paint has dried rather flat………….the guy at the automotive paint place did say that this paint can only be had in a basecoat. So maybe later today I might get the nerve to clearcoat everything in my trusty Tamiya Clear X-22………..but I have to go back to work tonight for third shift, so that may have to wait until tomorrow. So far so good on this one!……………and no crazing of the plastic! That’s the main thing……… Stay tuned for more later!
  16. The engine you've shown looks like it could go in a Mustang Gasser since it's a Ford..............It's lookin' pretty good! The others are excellent builds as well as your photography! You may have better luck for it to be seen if it were in the "Under Glass" section though..........
  17. There shouldn't be any problem Ray, just make sure the dehydrator has an adjustable temp. About 105° should be perfect. 8) I used a dehydrator without one years ago.......didn't watch what was going on and the results were------needless to say DISASTROUS!!
  18. Welcome Ramon, and please post some of your work!
  19. A while back when I was getting reference photos for the Corvette I'm doing now, I ran across these pics on eBay. Apparently, these came from a car that was hit, or heavily modified. Unfortunately, I didn't follow the auction to see how much the bare chassis went for, or even if it sold at all. Here's a couple pics for starters.... Those that are doing detailed versions of the Z06, or the regular Corvette model may find these pics quite handy! More can be seen here..... Enjoy! (pssssssssst.....Ismael....these pics are callin' your name! )
  20. ..............Or Firebird, or Corvette, or Mustang! I would LOVE to have a model of the car I had driver's ed in..........a 1976-77 Olds Cutlass Supreme!
  21. Okay my bad....... I got my models mixed up and was thinking about the full sized car and not the "Torino" based one. I remember when that Pontiac Transport review showed up in "Car Modeler" years ago and it was CREAMED by the editor!................ the guy disappeared very quickly after that! He had some interesting subjects though-----1991 Chrysler TC by Maserati, The '79 (or '89?) Ford LTD, 1992 Oldsmobile 98, and the Pontiac Transport.......All terribly executed!! Isn't there a Starsky and Hutch model out there somewhere based on that '77-'79 chassis? Can't remember if that one's plastic or diecast. :?: If plastic, you could maybe scratch a 4 door with some work....... Edit: I just checked around on the 'Bay, and yup it was a diecast......1/18 scale at that! Sorry guy, ...........there's just pretty much next to nothin' when it comes to late '70's Detroit iron!
  22. WOW!! Does that look WICKED!! I've never seen that before! 8)
  23. Lookin' good so far Dan!...............Make sure you bring that to the next meeting no matter what!
  24. That looks terrific!! LOVE the paint job!
  25. Hmmmm...............I remember a guy (woman?) by the name Casimira Fleszar (sp?) that made and sold a '79 or '80 Ford LTD back in the early '90's. His quality left a LOT to be desired so I was told..............the only place that something like that might show up would be eBay. I gotta tell you though.......if you find one, you may have a better model carving it out of wood yourself! Something tells me that AAM (All American Models) did an LTD but I can't remember what year? Anyone out there know?
