MrObsessive replied to sparkyd31's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have yet to do add any major shelf space to my hobby room since I just bought the house in October. Nevertheless, this definitely suits me just fine compared to the last place I lived in. Since I live alone, I can turn one of the two bedrooms into a model room, so space is definitely my advantage! Plus I have a third floor to boot...... Now if I ever got married and had kids, all bets are off! -
Yes! The Revell '63 Impala is much, much nicer! I don't know about the '64.........but I think the '65 kit has a real nice 409 in it you could check out. BTW, the '63 and '64 are two different toolings................not modified reissues. The '64 is an equally excellent kit though! I'm amazed RC2 is still selling that old '63 kit........isn't it time to put it out of its misery?? :?

Lookin' Good MJ! 8) That is a neat hood setup.................looks kinda like the 1:1 '07 Shelby GT. -
clear coat question
MrObsessive replied to dwhite645's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, like Zeb had mentioned.........you definitely want to stay away from enamel clears! This will yellow big time! Probably the "safest" clear you could use would be Tamiya's X-22 acrylic clear which is water based. You'd need an airbrush though to apply it. If you use this, make sure the decals have set for a couple days...............since the paint is water based, you wouldn't want the decals to lift or shift around. Hope this helps! 8) -
clear coat question
MrObsessive replied to dwhite645's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I were you, I'd somehow test the decal to see if it won't have an adverse reaction to the clear! Maybe there are some small decals on the sheet you're not gonna use? Not all decals react the same to like clearcoats..............even with the same manufacturer. Failure to do so will have you cryin' in your beer! -
"Do you want to play a game?"
MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, if it's not a Riviera, Century, or Roadmaster............then it's a Special. I can't remember if Specials came in hardtop form though. :? That car is a weeeeeee bit before my time! And yes, '57 Buicks had frenched "eyebrow" headlight doors straight from the factory. -

Hmmmmm.......................looking closer at the wheelbase of the car............It's a little short for any Buick for '57. Might just be the pic itself. Maybe a heavily redone '55 Chevy?? But '55 Chevy's didn't have windshield posts that raked yet. :? The beltline and rear of the car says mid '50's GM........I just can't put my finger on exactly which make. :? Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a Ford though! As far as the wheels.......they look like Borannis with low profile tires.... -

MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, that was pretty much standard fare for '57 Buicks back in those days. Great idea.............at least you didn't have to worry about which side your gas door was on for the gas pump. '57 Chevys had the neatest idea of putting the gas door on the drivers side tail fin! Unfortunately, that wouldn't pass muster with today's safety regs though. -

That '57 Buick is a Century I believe...............looks like the rockers were customized, as well as the rear end. It also appears like dual sunken antennaes were put in below the "C" pillar on the drivers side. The other car is indeed an A.C. Bristol-----'50's era. I think it would've had a straight six in it............Long before Carroll Shelby got the idea to drop a small block V8 in one. -
My hobby companions!
MrObsessive replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
These pics of my two cats were taken a few days after I moved into the house. They're really close buds even though they're not from the same litter. Yes the second pic now that I look at it does appear rather risqué ..............but the orange one (KitKat) sleeps like that all the time! I'll also need to get the ottoman reupholstered sooner or later as it's put up with abuse with several cats over many years. The gray one (Captain) is always under my feet when I'm in the model room. I have to put the water jar on the top shelf when I'm not in the room................he'll try to drink out of it whether or not it's got paint residue in it!! He doesn't bother any model parts though...... -
Well lessee.......... 1) Finish up my '05 Corvette sometime this month.. 2) '63 Chrysler Turbine Car moderately detailed...... 3) '06 Dodge Magnum with different tires and scratchbuilt hinges for the tailgate.... 4) Get back to my '55 Ford so it stops screaming at me to finish it. Of course like anything this is all tentative, as something really cool carwise can catch your eye and toss everything aside!

Coupe Devil- looking for advice or suggestions
MrObsessive replied to Brian Fishburn's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I second that Brian............It would look a scooch better if it were "level" being a custom and all. The wheel and tire setup suit that car perfectly! 8) -
Hey Bro! Whose kit is that?? I'd love to turn that into a stock Corolla! Bring that to the meeting tomorrow if you're comin'! 8)
-
Yup! Nothing beats good 'ol American Mags for that '60's feel! Great Job Bobby! 8)

I don't mean to hijack this thread.........but the Monte (unfortunately) is history after '08. This is to make way for an all new RWD Impala for '09 or '10. It's to be built on a stretched Zeta platform. The only other rear drive coupe besides the Camaro may be a GTO for Poncho.........and a new Cadillac CTS 2 door hardtop coupe.

Y'all have seen this before..............but this was the ultimate muscle car one could get in 1969........ More pics can be seen Here......

Model Car Club Sit Down
MrObsessive replied to Bob Doebley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Feb 25?...........Hmmm......I'd really wish it were a Saturday. I work third shift and wouldn't get back home in time to get some sleep for Sunday night/Monday morning. Sounds like it'll be a great get-together though! -
Yep, the very cars of my early childhood. Those were some of the first cars I started to notice when I first knew what cars were. Along with the then new '64 GTO's and 442's the streets of my town had some very interesting iron roamin' around back then. That '58 Stude Hawk brings back some memories when we were stuck in a snowstorm in one during the winter of '66..................wish you could here the noises I could imitate that it made!

Whoops! I got my body designations mixed up.........'64-'65 GM "A" bodies (Chevelle, Lemans, SKylark) had the pivot type hinge while the '65 GM full sizers were still using the swing out gooseneck type hinges. I'm not sure when GM went to the pivot type for all makes but I figured it was sometime in the late '60's. But your '63 would have the gooseneck hinges Luis.
-
Luis, just a point of reference............'63 Chevy's doors swung outside the body, they didn't turn inwards. 1959-64 Chevrolets actually have the same inner structure and cowl so all those model year "B" bodied GM's would have the same door hinges. For '65, GM switched to the simpler pivot hinge for "B" and "C" bodied cars.........which lets the door turn inside the fender. You'd want to make some type of "Gooseneck" hinge to work right for the car you're doing, to let the door swing outward  Here's a pic of my '58 for an example.... Keep us posted!

Great color choice Darin! Which paint brand is that? I remember that ad from way back when! I always thought that woman reminded me of Lindsay Wagner (Bionic Woman)....... Keep us posted!

Allright!! Another door opener!! Clean work so far man! I wanna follow this one Luis...........Drop me a line if you need any help!

I wish at 17 I could've built that way...........I was nowhere near the fantastic job you did Nick!
