1963 Chrysler Turbine Car Question
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was thinking while rubbing out the paint on my '05 'Vette...............if the Sunset Orange would be a close match for it? I recall a conversation years ago about the actual color of the car, and remember someone saying that the car had a slight pearlescent look to it. Also, Duplicolor's Orange Mist seems like a real close match...........I'll have to experiment with it......... BTW, I finally found the kit after much diggin' around.........so yeah, it looks like this will be my next build after the Corvette! -
Just had to do it! '06 Mustang GT"updated 01-08-07
MrObsessive replied to Mj-Styro's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks good MJ! A couple caveats............ when building it you may have to file out a "U" shape in the front of the inner fenders to make clearance for the headlight buckets. This'll save a headache trying to fit the chassis inside. Also, you may have to file down the "B" pillars on the interior panels, otherwise the car may end up sitting too high. Yup, I strongly urge anyone building Revell's kits made from 2004 to present...........you've GOT to seal the plastic!! Whether you use Future, BIN or whatever, it's an absolute MUST if you're gonna use automotive paints! :!:  -
Looks great Bobby! I love that shade of green! 8) You're doin' pretty good for just your 2nd shot at BMF!

2005 Corvette Buildup Teaser pic-----1/28/07
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hi Chris......It's hard to tell by the photo but there is some orange peel on the sides and rear deck that I want to get rid of. I'm maybe a little too thorough when it comes to clearcoat and polishing, but I really hate the way I see some of the 1:1's painted. I've seen new $50,000 Corvettes with rather orange peely paint jobs that shouldn't be there for that kind of dough. -

Sigh............ Nope it's still the same...........I'll probably buy this kit if only to not build my original MPC '71 Trans Am. -

Here’s my final update for 2006………….I went ahead and clearcoated the body to get that out of the way. The final result came out pretty sharp! Well, almost……………….here are a few pics….. The hood had given me a few fits……one of the things I learned about this paint is that it is a bit pearlescent. Meaning, it CANNOT be touched once painted! No sanding, polishing NOTHING! If you touch it, you’ll have to airbrush that spot all over again. It took three tries to get the hood right, meaning three times stripping in ELO and putting on Future and reprimering. Suprisingly, the hood did not craze any of the times I had to repaint. The third time I had to repaint was because the clear believe it or not attacked the paint!……..not the plastic. The paint jobber had warned me about alcohol based clears with this type of paint, but I got overzealous and put too heavy a coat on in the last couple coats and the clear wrinkled the paint at the leading edge of the hood. Here’s the hood all nice and painted and clearcoated now…….. My patience got ahead of me and I decided to mock up the wheels after the clear dried sufficiently. Just picture the front end about a scale inch or so higher, and that’s the stance I want……. Today, I clearcoated the liftoff roof section to simulate a “Glass†top. It’s in the dehydrator as I type this. I also picked up some MV lenses at the train shop yesterday………I’m gonna use these to replace those funky lookin’ molded in headlights the kit gives you. I’m startin’ some preliminary work on the engine now…..got the basic pieces put together and painted the whole works with Tamiya Gloss aluminum. Tomorrow I’ll finish it up with the rest of the pieces and then get started on the chassis. That’s where I’ll have to tackle that wacky wheelbase issue. I like to cover what I’m handling with parafilm…….keeps the paint from wearing away from overhandling. Well, this has been a productive year for me considering in 2006……………This’ll be the first completed build of 2007 with any luck! Thanks for lookin’! -
Model Master paints(ultra voilet to be exact)
MrObsessive replied to B.Beachum's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Barry, my general rule of thumb is that any metallic paint should never be buffed out. Buffing/rubbing it out does something to the metallic flakes and can lend a mottled/spotty look to your finish. I usually like to take a 3600/4000 grit sandpaper and very lightly rub out any dusties, and then clearcoat. Then, rub out the clearcoat. But I don't like to rub out metallics per se. Hope this helps! -

Also speaking of funky------did they fix that incorrect upper side window shape? That's what turned me off from buying it before. -
Nothing like a good 'ol fashioned hardtop wagon to go in style! 8)

Snazzy color combo Andy! I like it!! I wanna see that at the meeting Saturday!

Hi Mike! Your a guy with good taste as you've modeled my favorite Ford of the '50's! I started a regular Victoria months ago, but the trunk trim put it on hiatus until I can find what I did with the Danbury diecast when I moved. :? Check out my Fotki page if you want to see it. Also, where did you get the grille? I have a Boyds '55 "Orange Crisp" Wagon diecast I was gonna slice and dice...........but if there's one out there readily available, I'm all ears. I got a resin repop from Modelhaus, but it's too big for the AMT '56 front end. Anyway, beautiful job on what's never seen on the contest tables!

Not much into street rods or that scale........but that IS nice!! BTW, where did you get the body?...........I've not seen that style offered in plastic. :?:

MrObsessive replied to MonoPed's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You did it!! Looks great Brian! My Sonic Blue '05 Mustang that I did does have a slight hint of red in it in certain light. So that color is a great match! 8) Don't give up now!! -
I've learned NOT to trust any decals that are a few years old........... You may want to find something called "Microscale Liquid Decal Film". Simply brush it on, wait about 20 minutes or so, and then put it in water per normal. The decal should stay together with no problem. It's great for restoring really old decals that can't be repro'd.

MrObsessive replied to James Tester's topic in Model Cars
That is absolutely beautiful James! Your paintwork is flawless! No criticism from me......... Now I gotta figure on coming up with the bucks for this model as it's one of the nicest I've seen from Tamiya in a while! 8) -
Ooooooh!! Very Nice! Love the flames!
-
Looks great Casey!..........Were there any last detail foibles we should look out for? I especially like what you did with the underside of the car.......that overspray is dead accurate for a unibody. 8)
-
I dunno...............what's annoying is that it's one of many gaffes in the past by RC2. :x
-
Don't mention anything about moving! :x I'm still getting used to the area where I am now after having to move all over again after 2 years! I don't intend to do this again for a loooooooooong time!! The upside is I own the place and no nonsense with a property manager. I'm gonna try and get back down there again for your NNL next year, but my Dad tells me he'd like us (immediate family) to go to Mexico for Thanksgiving! That'll put a crimp in the budget!
-
Luis is being modest ..........this car took some nice awards at the Mid Atlantic NNL this past May!! Beautiful car as always! Are you in the same neighborhood/area or where Luis?
-
Hee Hee.... I meant that mine would probably come out like triangles than nice and straight as yours are. Were you going to stain them, are leave them as is?

Beautiful engine work Matt! I have this kit as I won it off the 'Bay a few years ago.............but alas, it sits in the box untouched. The guy even threw in an extra built engine.......... I wanna definitely watch this one! 8) -
Wow! Those look great Art! 8) You've got more patience than I when it comes to scratchbuilding something like that!
