  1. I just picked up my kit Saturday from the LHS and I'm impressed save for the tires! When will the model companies realize that proper stance and tires can make or break a model??.:? Seems as though the tires from the Viper SRT-10 kit will work as they are the right profile and size...........especially the rears. I tried to order a set of extra tires from Revell-Monogram------first by calling them......got voice mail.........then by going to their website, but the site doesn't seem to recognize when you've placed an order by giving you a confirmation notice or anything. ..................And I'll have to modify the wheels somewhat for the larger tires. Out of frustration, I simply bought another Viper kit off the 'Bay............I want to build this one after I finish the '55 Ford. Yours is coming along reeeeaaall nice Ismael........keep us posted!
  2. Thanks for the info Bob!! Yes, I plan to use the very mildest of clears for this car as I did a test on the Tamiya spray clear..................and it did react badly as you said. I'm not too worried about the drying time of the Tamiya bottle acrylic clear as the car won't need to be ready until September for our show here in PA. The Tamiya bottle clear can be sped up a bit for drying if you put it in a dehydrator............however the caveat with this is if you're doing a white car------make sure the paint has dried a bit before putting it in the dehydrator. Seems as though the Tamiya will turn kinda "brown" where the paint has not tack dried yet. It doesn't seem to like to be sped up by heating. Your right about the finish being hard as a rock when completely dry...................another thing I found out is that when it is dry, ammonia won't take off the clear as easily as Tamiya's regular colors! I think in the future when I'm doing metallics (either Paintscratch's or some other brand) I will start using Tamiya's acrylic clears since the way I build..........I'm in no hurry anyway!8) Stay tuned as later this week (possibly tomorrow), I will shoot the clear..............and then post pics as to how it turned out. And yes, I too remember this car very well as a kid in the '60's as I thought they always looked kinda scary with that front end!!
  3. Great projects Ken! You're doing some interesting and neat bodywork to that Ford! The "metal" street rod you're working on.................is the body itself BMF'd??.......or was this done with the metallizers? Just the same, I would love to see how this turns out!
  4. Just want to give you two many kudos for another great issue of Model Cars! I picked up the latest issue at my LHS yesterday and was impressed by the coverage of the NNL East! 8) I also like the comment about my hands! Keep up the good work!
  5. Anyone out there know the website addy for "The Horsetrader" (parts buying and swapping site)? I did a search on Google for horsetrader and some very interesting things turned up! I once had this site bookmarked........but IIRC correctly the addy was very strange. I switched hardrives not long ago.......and of course I forgot to save the bookmarks and now it's lost. If anyone can be of help I give much thanks!
  6. The Buick is now painted as of this morning! While the color is nice...............it seems a little more brown than I thought.........that's okay as cars like this don't look so great in wild vibrant colors IMO. Here's what turned out so far............ A couple of nits I have with myself is that I noticed a very slight depression in the roof which block sanding didn't turn up............also, a couple mold lines which I overlooked. It's no matter as this is just a shelf model to add to my '50's collection. The problem with resin models and mold lines however is if you try to get rid of them............you run the risk of sanding off details/contours which is very tough to replace with resin. I'll let this sit for a few days and then take some 6000 or so grit polishing cloth and rub out some of the dusties.........and then clearcoat. On the question of clearcoat.....I think I'll take the safe route with this one and use Tamiya's water based clear. Actually water based is a bit of a misnomer.................you have to use their thinner to prevent fisheyes, at least that's been my experience when using it in the past. Stay tuned! ...........
  7. Welcome aboard! Would love to see pics of some of your work.................pic posting here me be a little tricky at first, but it's really quite easy.
  8. Wow! That's the version I want to build! I was hoping upon hope that somehow Revell would have slipped in the transparent roof, even though the 1:1 Z06 has a fixed roof (I wanted to build the "standard" 'Vette with that roof). The body mods look dead on accurate and it's nice the extra parts are included. Of course I may have to go the "Obsessive" route with this one and open the doors, hatch, etc..........
  9. Nice and clean Bill!! I've always liked those old Indy racers.......before they got all the wings and wild decals!
  10. I was gonna use Tamiya Clear for the clear coat, (it's milder and not so "Hot") but I think I'll test it on something first before using it.The paint is an Acrylic Enamel so there shouldn't be too much problem. If worst comes to worst, I can always use Tamiya's water based acrylic clear. The only downside to that is it's LOOOOOONGG drying time although a dehydrator would take care of that. Bobby, the "Super September Showdown" is in Gilbertsville, PA on September 24th (Sunday). It's held at the Gilbertsville Fire Hall and the address is.......... Route 73 1456 E. Philadelphia Ave. The show runs from 9AM-2PM and there will be vendors there such as R&R, Fantastic Plastics to name a couple. If you want more info, you can get a hold of Len Feinberg (Fantastic Plastics) at 610-923-7534.
  11. Well Done Billy! The two tone paint really stands out on that one!
  12. Well, to break up once again the superdetailing on the Ford............I figure why not build another curbsider? I have another Modelhaus kit which I figure won't give me too many fits.......so here 'tis. This is another fine casting from The Modelhaus. This came pretty much as you see it here with very little flash and just some very minor cleanup. The only flaw I can see in the original body that was used for a master, is that the rear wheelwells are not symmetrical from side to side. The left rear wheelwell shown here looks correct according to my reference photos. Hmmmmm..........looking at the right rear however, I notice that the leading edge of the wheelwell, has a bit more radius than the other side. Careful filing and some sandpaper will fix that. There is one small dimple on the right side part of the rear deck. I'll primer that and then putty and smooth it out. This is the car I'm trying to replicate. I believe the color of this car is '59 Copper Glow.........but due to the inconsistencies of a computer monitor, I'm not 100% certain. Front end shot of the same car.......Dig that mean scowl!! Rear shot......................Buick called their fins "Delta Wings" in some ads back then. Allright.............I got the body primered and will let it sit for a couple days before I try to fill any imperfections with Dynatron Putty-Cote. Here's the paint I plan on using..........It's from Paintscratch.com. For us guys who like to airbrush but don't want to spend $30 for a pint of paint, these guys are a GREAT alternative! I'll let the body sit for a week or so (after some minor putty and reprimering) and then shoot about 5-7 coats of this. Well stay tuned for this one.............later in the week I may get a chance to shoot some interior pics........not much to right home about there.......it uses a tub (uuuuuggghh!!!) Which means some of my "Obsessiveness" will have to come through to fix this. I would definitely want to get this done before our show in September (Super September Showdown). Thanks for lookin'!
  13. Well Lyle you know that Street Rods are not my genre...............but THAT I LIKE! If you hadn't said you built it............it would really pass for a real car!
  14. Ok Folks, Here's yet some more progress albeit slow on the Ford. I figured with the pace I build this type of model, it will take me through to the end of the year. Finally! I got the chassis to where I want it..........I had to "deepen" the spare tire well simply because a regular model tire wouldn't fit as it was. I took some five minute epoxy and filled in the areas where sanding was hard to reach. The main thing is getting rid of the molded in exhausts! Once the exhausts, rear end, etc, are put in place this will be difficult to see just the same. At first I was gonna save myself the trouble and try to tweak the chassis out of the '53 Lindberg kit..........but the chassis rails were too "blocky/bulky" and to me just didn't look right. Here's the top side of the trunk..............you can see some of the work that went into deepening the spare tire well. Before I lay down a trunk floor, I'll grind down the excess putty to make it easier. The body can soon be set aside for total primering..........but I got these really nice resin fender skirts from Jim Weir from the CPMCC. I had originally made my own skirts, but they are a bit "flimsy" from the plastic I used and may not hold up to painting/polishing. A closer shot of the fender skirts..............I had to tweak them somewhat to get them to fit in the wheelwells properly, It's nice that they also have the stone guards molded in..........a detail I forgot in my scratchbuilt ones. WHOOPS! One detail I nearly forgot is the "eyelashes" that all Fairlanes had for 1955. Well as you can see here, I'll have to start scratchbuilding these......................this'll take a while. Also. according to my photos there should be some chrome trim around the grille opening. That's easy enough to add. The grille itself will also be a bit of a challenge, but I have written down how to accomplish that down the road. P.S. to Jairus...... No I didn't forget about the trunk panel trim..........I have an idea of how to make it......... Stay tuned! Thanks for lookin'!
  15. Looks great Bobby.......and I love the "B" pillarless look! 8)
  16. AAAAAAAARRRRRRRHHHHH!!!!! (The big man shrieks!) Ismael, your building my FAVORITE racing 'Vette of the '50's!! In fact it was a toss up between doing this car or building the stock one I eventually did. Someday I want to build the street SR-2 that was given to Harlowe Curtice back in '56.........Here are a couple pics I dug up on Google.... Ismael.......you KNOW I'm gonna keep a close watch on this one!! 8)
  17. Hey Mark! Looks pretty sweet! As far as posting pics here, when you're on your Fotki page with the pic, you have to click on the bottom where it says "Share Photo". Click on that and you'll see a different addy (highlight it and copy it) then just right clicking on the photo and getting the properties. Then you post it something like this........ I'm on Fotki and here's a sample.......8) Hope this helps!
  18. Hi Glen and welcome! First make sure your pics are hosted somewhere on the 'net.........either Fotki or Photobucket or whatnot. Some websites will not let you link their pics onto other sites. Then when you want to post a pic, it should look something like this............ It may be a good idea to make sure the pic has either a .jpg or .gif extension at the end of the URL. Hope this helps, would love to see the truck!
  19. Oooooohhh real sharp and clean that one Walt! Y'know I have that kit and that would be a nice addition to my '50's collection, built up.
  20. Lucky Stiff! I've been wanting one of those Scramblers for a while now! Nice score just the same...............the '60 Chevy sedan delivery looks reeeeeeeeallll interesting! Who made that one??
  21. Hey Jeff, I just noticed you had this done! Great Job! And those doors turned out pretty well too! I'm thinking about building a Mustang (Shelby?).............it's been nearly ten years since I built one
  22. Welcome Len! Ditto what John said!
  23. Hi Pat! Welcome! It's pretty neat here.............none of the chaos like the "other" place!
  24. WOW......that sure is purty!! 8) I betcha you used the Tamiya masking tape for the stripes right? I have used painted decal paper for the separation stripes and it looked very convincing. Also the Cobra Colors seem to have very tight pigments because I don't notice any bleed through to the white from the blue paint underneath. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!
  25. Thanks George! Do you know a time frame when they'll be available? I've got a '67 Shelby that's been callin' my name for years!
