Chrome look ? Alclad or something else
MrObsessive replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If this is for a contest or show.......I strongly recommend you send them out to be plated. Alclad is good stuff............but nothing replaces actual chrome. You first need to spray a few coats of enamel black on the part, let it dry thoroughly (a dehydrator helps!) and then airbrush very light coats of Alclad Chrome on the part. I would airbrush light mist coats.......because if you put it on too heavy, it will look like dull aluminum and not chrome. I wouldn't recommend clearcoating as this can dull the chrome to a degree. As with anything.......if you handle Aclad too much.......it can rub off eventually as has been my experience. Actually, the end result is not like plated chrome.............but like highly polished aluminum. It's fine for shelf models.....but as I mentioned above, if your building for a contest, having them chromed is the way to go. Hope this helps! -

				1960 Ranch wagon(80's street machine!) *UPDATE* 08-15-06
MrObsessive replied to Mj-Styro's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yeah, I'm learning that as I go along with this '59 Buick. One of the more difficult things with resin is replacing trim that may have been accidentally sanded away. I think I have found a cure for that though! Actually, months ago, I had started on one of Lemans Miniatures resin kits............the '69 Lemans winner GT-40. I gave up on it due to the resin not "behaving". The body (particularly the doors) was warped, but since building the Buick, I have figured out how to straighten body panels and have them "stay put". 8) -

Resin Body?? You're a braver man than I! I've been doin' fine! I've been working on a '59 Buick resin which is somewhere in the list of topics......... Here's the addy if you want to check it out..... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=524 I may be posting new pics of the interior later today.........it's takin' awhile due to fabricating a whole new interior because the Modelhaus one is just too incorrect. No slam at Don and the gang............he only repopped what was part of the original Craftsman kit. Look forward to seein' more of that '60 Ford! -

Yes, I do have one of Harold's Cobra Daytonas...............and it is nice!! It's based on the Gunze kit...........and Harold took steps to make the assembly easier than the old Gunze one. Not to mention full engine detail, and some reference pics to makes things easier! -
