hello all a newbie here! need help!
MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jeryd, your pics have to be hosted somewhere on the internet..........Fotki, Imagestation, Photobucket to name a few. If you're using Fotki, you have to use the "share photo" button and use that URL here. It should look something like this........... Other sites you can right click on the pic and get the properties and use that URL in the image tags. That should work................it's a good idea to preview your message to see if the pic will show up. ...................And welcome to the board!! -
Ben that's gonna be a sharp phantom!...........although not really a phantom per se as Chrysler had the Helios concept at last years auto show circuit. I would love to see Chrysler make such a car, (Lincoln Continental anyone?) but word has it that Chrysler cancelled such a car for the future. Just the same, we can make our own "4 door convertible" and you've done a good job hackin' off the roof so far! 8) Are you going to modify the roof as an uptop or just make a hard boot for it?

Fantastic job Joe! Stance is perfect............and it's built mighty clean! 8) I'm curious too if you had any building peculiarities with it?

Who would you like to meet?
MrObsessive replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow! I'm flattered to be mentioned by a number of you guys! I would love to meet Juha Airio someday.......he's been an inspiration over the years by some of the replica stock stuff he's built. I've personally known Larry Booth since he was once a member of the MAMA club.......when I joined MAMA in 1994, his '57 T-bird blew me AWAY!! That's what really got me going on the replica stock builds I do, as well as the working features. I got to meet Augie Hiscano several times over the years and we've had quite long conversations.................he will always be missed at the shows. I got a chance to meet some of the other Hobby Greats when I went to GSL last year................Mark Gustavson, Dave Lindsay, Chris Roldan, to name a few. I'd love to meet Jackie Cheyenne sometime, but lord knows when I'll get to the west coast. She's a very prolific builder despite her disability, and tackles some subjects (TKM anyone?) that can make us "Big Dogs" weep! -
Project Monte Carlo Challenge - completed !!!
MrObsessive replied to SteveG's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Steve, that does look a lot better with it lowered! As Peter Lepold's build has shown also, it does sit WAY too high out of the box. Some may say that the wheels appear too small...........but that's how American cars outta the '70's looked! My Dad had a '79, and it appeared just the way yours does. Love the update on this one so far! -
Lookin' good so far Terry!
-
Love those '58's Irv! That silver top does look good with the red! That's one kit that never seems to grow old!

Question about Herb Deeks
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for all the info guys! I was wonderin' whatever became of him! -
Wow! I love that interior pattern! Very Original Lyle! As far as the paint...............I've never seen a bad paint job from you Lyle.........so I'da known it was top knotch!

I hear ya!.............That's been a main gripe of mine for years when it comes to certain cars. The latest example from Revell is the new Corvette Z06 kit. While it's a very nice kit detail and body shape wise.....they cheaped out and used the tires out of the regular C6 kit. Ya have to buy the Viper kit if you want the correct tires to make the model accurate, not to mention modifying the wheels to suit! :x The tires (especially the rears) on the Z06 are much wider and I think really make the car! IMO I think wheels and tires make or break a kit........that along with ride height or how it sits when completed.

Final Update! '59 Buick.......8/13/06 Pg.4
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Okay Ladies and Gentlemen.........this'll be the final update as I intend to finish this one this week upcoming.............definitely by next weekend!! This past week I've been struggling with the dashboard as it had to be modified somewhat to fit with the new interior. I can tell you it was a real ^%@#$?!!*! to get this thing to be the way I wanted it! I think because this is a repop and not the original kit is why I was having difficulties. Don Holthaus obviously uses a much thinner "glass" than the original (a GOOD thing!) which is what made the dash ill fitting in respect to the cowl. Anyway......here's what I've done to date......... Since I don't like just epoxying dashboards in place........running the risk of smearing the windshield with epoxy..............I like to run a support beam across the cowl to place the dash. The ensures that the dash will sit at the right height and not depend on the side panels for support. Here's how it would look from a top view....... Here's the somewhat completed dash............it took several painting tries to get this right! For some reason I couldn't get the paint I used for the seats to come out a different shade for the dash without it coming out looking really puckey! Taking a tip from Peter Lepold, I used Humbrol #9 brown paint on the dash and then put it in the dehydrator for about 4 hours at 105 degrees. On the steering wheel, I cut out the molded in horn ring and replaced it with one I made from bead wire................I simply wrapped the wire around something of like diameter, and then soldered the ends together. I think it looks a lot more realistic than that too thick piece that was molded on. On the inside diameter of the ring, I flowed some epoxy on the "spoke", let dry, then painted it black, and then painted it with Alclad to get the nice bright polished aluminum look. There was nothing I could do about the center badge..............I think it's supposed to say "Power Steering" or something like that. Here's the dash as it now sits in the car sans the interior...............I have added a gearshift selector and turn signal stalk this time............something I forgot on the '61 Cadillac! I may try to paint the windshield pillars........I wanted to add plastic to cover that area, but I'm afraid it will come out looking too "bulky" in those sections. The interior side panels were painted this morning and are in the dehydrator as this is written...........they're pretty quite plain with just a white stripe to distinguish them a bit. They'll be detailed with handles and the stripes and then I can get the front and rear bumpers, tailights on, and call this one DONE! BTW, I noticed as of today there are 1522 HITS of this thread!! All I can say is thank so much for taking the time to look. I'll have to admit that this may be the last model from me for a while as I will be moving (AGAIN :! so until I get settled there won't be much model doings! Thanks for lookin'! -

Is Herb Deeks still around? He had some really nice no offset wire wheels years ago and I was wondering if he's still in business. Anybody heard from or have seen him lately? Thanks!

MrObsessive replied to Mj-Styro's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Now that's some handy foil work.........no shaky hands there MJ! HEHEHEHE I know how ya must feel.......the '59 Buick was a real butt kicker when it came to the foil because there were some places that had no defined edges. Yours came out fantastic..........it looks soooooo Edselish now! -

MrObsessive replied to purvissp's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Steve, We meet the first Saturday of the month.........and we average about 25-30 guys. Mt. Wolf is a suburb of York, as it's only a stones throw down the road. The MAMA meetings are the third Saturday of the month..............There's a meeting next Saturday as a matter of fact! -

I want to see what the 1:1 will be like!! Since GM announced the other day that they WILL make the car come early 2009, I can't wait! Hopefully they'll do a convertible also..............not to mention some other rear drivers for Pontiac, Buick etc..... -

Mark, your scratchbuilding never ceases to amaze me! You sure you aren't yankin' our chain and that's 1:1 stuff?? -
That's a good thought Ken.........no replies doesn't necessarily mean no one's interested! I look at the amount of "hits" my posts have had..............the '59 Buick I'm building is over 1500!!.......even though I haven't done an update for a couple weeks now! (that'll soon change! )

Lookin' Good Andy! As a somewhat lifelong resident of PA.....I hear Ya! I'm gonna try take advantage of the weather and put the finishing touches on the Buick's interior.........hopefully I can get it done this week coming!

Dan's yankin' your chain Bill ........."Classic Plastic" is our monthly newsletter by our club here in PA. The CPMCC (Central Pennsylvania Model Car Club) has monthly meetings.........and we meet on the first Saturday of the month. Dan puts out and excellent newsletter which I get in PDF format in my email each month. If you'd like a copy, maybe Dan can chime in and maybe send you a copy via email. You'll need Adobe Acrobat to download the file though. -
Billy, you may want to try Replica's and Miniatures Co. of Maryland. Norm has great resin redlines that come in 14 and 15 inch sizes. Modelhaus also has tires........but he has so many it may be best to email him and ask which ones (redline or otherwise) would be best for that type of car. Here's a link to John Sharisky's Fotki page which shows some of the tires he has....... http://public.fotki.com/jsharisky/modelhaus_resin_items/ Hope this helps!

Very Nice Steve! At least you got yours done! I started (and almost finished) a convertible about 4 years ago...............I put it on the back burner due to things kept going wrong with it. One of these days I guess I'll finish it.........

Terry, Try holding down the control button down on your keyboard, and then scrolling on your mouse to make the text bigger or smaller. I'm using Mozilla, and that's how it works for me. This should work for IE users also. -
