  1. Testors spray paints and their nozzles are what caused me to switch to airbrushing back in 1985! I had never seen paint spray out of a can so inconsistently as their stuff! :x  The only time I will spray paint anything is when I do a curbside chassis (Modelhaus) when there is no chassis detailing to do----------airbrushing is not hard, just takes some practice to get it right. Getting back to the BIN stuff............I have a pint can of it------could not find anywhere the spray can of it. Will plain isopropyl alcohol thin it down, or should it say 91% on the bottle? I'm wondering if denatured alcohol will work since I can get that directly at the hardware store.
  2. Ahhh Yes! Lookin' good so far Ben! That's one of those few '80's cars that are actually collectible in 1:1! 8) Back in the '80's when I owned a 1:1 '69 AMX with a 390/4spd, my car was pretty much king of the hill among other muscle cars in the area. Pretty much I could beat 440 Mopars, Big Block Chevelle's, Camaro's etc. Until one fine day I got smoked by a brand new Grand National GNX which blew my mind because the car didn't look like much at first glance. The guy later admitted that the car was "enhanced" engine wise-----but the launch off the line was very impressive just the same! Keep up the good work Ben!
  3. That's what I do Bob..........The second application may not be necessary, but it's just to check to make sure the area will not ghost again. And yes, like you said a sealer will still be needed to keep that nasty yellow or red plastic from bleeding through. For those out there that can't find BIN..............another alternative to try is to use Future Floor Wax. It definitely stops bleed through and may work on ghosting problems too.
  4. Here's a tip I learned from Ted "Chopper" Lear................ When needing to get rid of scripts, deep parting lines and even when doing bodywork when blending plastic surfaces together------Sand down the part as you normally would, then brush over the part with Ambroid Pro Weld. (Liquid Glue) The Ambroid will then cause the sanded area to "ghost"...........once this is thoroughly dry, sand this area again and repeat. The area shouldn't ghost again because you've sanded away the "memory" the plastic had when you brushed over the area with the Ambroid. Since liquid glue is a very powerful solvent, when you go to paint as you normally would, the paint solvents shouldn't cause the ghosting problem. You can always prime the body with the BIN as extra insurance, but I've found that what I've described wards against any surprises down the road. Hope this helps ya out Ken!
  5. Very, Very Nice Lyle!! I really like that '57 Chrysler front bumper..............looks better than the stock Ford one!............and that interior turned out perfect!
  6. Hi James! Beautiful work so far! But I wouldn't expect anything less from you!
  7. Hey John.......Obviously I'm not Izzy........hehehe but I found these pics off the 'Bay......... Hope these help!
  8. Hmmm...........when I preview your quote text here.....the pics shows up :? Maybe it's your browser or ISP that's causing trouble? :?
  9. Not very well..........seems as though it's tougher this time around than when I moved before. Although when I think about it, I didn't find this house until about the middle of September two years ago. I called about a house two days ago that's right up the street from me for rent-------I asked the guy did he accept cats, he said yes but it would be $1000 DEPOSIT!!! I was nearly knocked off my chair when he said that! It's my last resort..............but I'm going to be calling a few apartment complexes in the area next week. I'm not crazy about complexes because of the sometimes noise factor, but I'm gettin' tired of lookin'.
  10. Nice to see you come aboard Ben! We need more young ones to take the place of us "Old" guys in the hobby! What a cool looking fire truck! It looks a lot like the ones I used to see as a kid in my neighborhood in that same time period (circa 1966 early '70's).
  11. You Betcha! 8) I may go with Paintscratch.com again, or I may go local depending on where I end up moving and such. For those of you ever interested in Paintscratch, click here...... I think that is one of GM's prettiest colors back then and it suits that type of car well. Here's another shot of the same car.......... It's the R&R kit I have as some of you have figured and yes, it will need some work to make it right!
  12. How 'bout just plain INCREDIBLE!! That is one super sweet bike! 8)
  13. Hi Bill, and welcome! You have to use the "subSilver" display mode on the site. Under the text box there is "Add image to post" url in the left hand corner. You have to change whatever mode your using to subsilver although I think that is the default. When you use the link the pic should show up something like this............. Hope this helps........we wanna see some of your work!
  14. Hi Craig!..........Good to see ya here!
  15. Hi Ray! Welcome aboard and thanks for the compliment!
  16. Fantastic Builds Sid!! 8) Both of those are top notch, and "Pam" ain't lookin' too bad herself! ..............And Welcome to the board!
  17. I vote also for the Nesco! I tried the other dehyhdrators without the temp control...........I had a disastrous result not long ago when the body became warped! So I went and spent the 45 bucks or so for the Nesco. It was well worth it! You can figure it can get 105º in your house and nothing will happen to the models...............so that's where I also set the temp in my dehydrator. Figure about 4 hours or so for acrylic enamels and lacquers.......about 8 hours for water based acrylics and like clears (Tamiya in particular).
  18. OOOOHH that is nice! Yes, those wheels do make the car! Chevy would be well advised for the next MC to take styling cues from that one........instead of the current one which just looks strange to me-------front end restyling notwithstanding!
  19. Chris the color and wheels are perfect for that car! GTO's aren't often seen where I live, but it's one of the few cars that has a distinctive sound to it when one goes by..................you gotta love a true 2dr, V8 powered, rear wheel drive car!
  20. Ha! I see you found it! hehehe
  21. Ismael, go to "On the Workbench" column.............he has it finished there, and it looks great! 8)
  22. Nice work Jeff! That's another one of those kits you don't see very often built anymore. Ditto on the color choice and I like the overspray detail on the chassis!
  23. Dave you have to go under the "share photo" button to get the URL.............. I have this one here which looks great!! Beautiful 'Vette!
  24. Thanks for the pics Lyle!.........couldn't make it today----apartment/house hunting y'know. Whose Maserati Birdcage was that?? That is one heck of a diecast! I'm afraid to ask how much that one cost!
  25. Stunning paint job! That's one of those kind of bodies that can be difficult to paint so you've definitely done that one justice!
