Mike, you'll need a photo hosting site. (Fotki, Photobucket, etc.) Once that's established..........it goes like this... No spaces in between anything, and also no super long URL's will do as this may not work here. It's a good idea to preview your post before submitting it to see if it shows up to not suffer embarassment such as what happened to me recently! If you do use Fotki, using the properties of the pic won't work, you have to use the "Share Photo" link to use the URL here. -
Mark, in order to shorten the body front and rear............I would make a "Z" cut. This would involve cutting the body straight down on the body just ahead of the cowl, come straight down and then make a horizontal cut along the fender..............and then come straight down somewhere along the fender behind the wheelwell. Remove the material as needed 'til you get the wheelbase length you want, and then reattach/glue. The same can be done to the rear, except you would have to do this twice to reduce the wheelbase length, and also the rear overhang. Frankly, I wouldn't mess with the rear section of the wheelbase, as this is almost not noticeable in 1/25, but the rear overhang on a Bonnie is very noticeable! Doing it this way would probably be the best in light of those V shaped fins (which always reminded me of a 'Victory" gesture as a kid ) and you wouldn't need to add anything......just reallign the fenders to where they were. I wish I could describe this further with pics, but I have no junk bodies at the moment to cut up to demonstate this! Hope this helps..............any further questions let me know!

Excellent build Charlie! You just don't see too many of these at shows for whatever reason. IMO an underrated kit at best! I have the Z/28 version of this car I should try to take a crack at sometime.

Tommy, you're gonna set the competition table on FIRE with that one! This'll definitely make the mags for sure when done!! -
Tom, that's gonna be a reeeeall cool build! 8) That mainline Malibu is just a knockout!! I'm surprised Revell hasn't reissued that kit as a regular Chevelle or did I miss something?

Sharp Build Charlie! I used to own a 1:1 (Not like that though ) many years ago...........was a good car, but it would have been something if I had a Hemi like that in it!

obscure car movies
MrObsessive replied to fastbackfiero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I GOTTA find a VHS or DVD of "The Lively Set". This is the movie which features the Chrysler Turbine Car, as a racing car. It's pretty campy...............(circa 1964) but a neat movie just the same! Pamela Tiffin in her younger days was pretty hot too! 8) -
if "here" is here then...
MrObsessive replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To add to what everyone was saying..............I was seriously thinking about starting to post "there" again just last week. What changed my mind?? It was the poor fellow from Germany (Peter Lepold) who did a thorough and completely honest review of the new Trumpeter Monte Carlo kit. He had some interesting and might I say accurate things to say about the kit, only for the entire thread to get deleted because the host "felt" it was too critical of a kit he sells. :x I'm sorry..........but since when are we to shut up about a serious flaw in a kit we're about to shell 35 bucks out for?? That definitely changed my mind, maybe forever about posting there in the future...............IP addy's notwithstanding. Poor fellow will probably never post there again........I've seen the review on a German message board and tried to register to get a message to him, but their server kept booting me out for some reason. :? Perhaps if someone knows him maybe he'd like to post here............I don't think he'll get booted for saying the truth. -
Nice '73!! Takes me back to Junior High School seeing that as a brand new car..........whitewalls and all! Sans the Hemi though!
-
Tony, you shouldn't have to worry about getting dunned because you point out an obvious flaw in a kit. The facts are the facts, as long as you do it in a nice manner of course! Unlike "somewhere else" you won't have the model gods swoop down on you because you dare to point out something seriously wrong with a model.

Chrome look ? Alclad or something else
MrObsessive replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmmm.........you may be right as I usually use acetone to clear out Aclad from the airbrush. Well that goes to what was said before.............it would be better to have the grille chromed and then do a black wash. You can't go wrong there. Or if you use the Alclad use ammonia to clear any excess. In any event, before you do anything, the rule of thumb is.........always TEST, TEST, TEST!! -
Chrome look ? Alclad or something else
MrObsessive replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm about to send some parts to Little Motor Car Company sometime this week as they're somewhat local to me here in PA. They're very good and the price is reasonable. I would use a water based acrylic for a black wash as you can use ammonia (or alcohol) to wipe away any excess and it won't hurt the Aclad. To add further, Alclad also sells a gloss black to use under their chrome.........but it's not available everywhere. As Steve mentioned, yes......you have to polish the black to get the best effect...............just as if you were going to apply BMF over the paint. Steve, those headers look excellent!! -
...............And he's knockin' another one outta of the park!!

Hey MJ.......That's a GREAT looking conversion!! 8)

Chrome look ? Alclad or something else
MrObsessive replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If this is for a contest or show.......I strongly recommend you send them out to be plated. Alclad is good stuff............but nothing replaces actual chrome. You first need to spray a few coats of enamel black on the part, let it dry thoroughly (a dehydrator helps!) and then airbrush very light coats of Alclad Chrome on the part. I would airbrush light mist coats.......because if you put it on too heavy, it will look like dull aluminum and not chrome. I wouldn't recommend clearcoating as this can dull the chrome to a degree. As with anything.......if you handle Aclad too much.......it can rub off eventually as has been my experience. Actually, the end result is not like plated chrome.............but like highly polished aluminum. It's fine for shelf models.....but as I mentioned above, if your building for a contest, having them chromed is the way to go. Hope this helps!
