When almost perfect is not good enough....
MrObsessive replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Lookin' great Ismael!8) Is the 1:1 color a pearlescent shade or is it a solid? I'm curious as I've have yet to see any 2005 or '06 C6 in yellow. -
Very Nice!! Izzat a PE grille I see?? Nice adaptation if it is!

THUD!!! Whaaaaa...........Okay, I think I'm ok now............Mark, that is absolutely GORGEOUS!!

AAAAHHHHH............One of my favorite era Trans Ams out of the '70's! I can still remember being in the 5th grade in '70 when my teacher gave me a ride home in her brand new '71 Trans Am! And she could drive that thing too as she was slicing through those gears like a racer!! 8) Needless to say she would forever be my favorite teacher! Hers was red (with white stripe) just like the one you have of course sans the wheels and tires on yours. Yours looks BEEEEEYOOOOOTIFUL Mark!! I have two of the '71 kits..........a pristine unbuilt one I got off the 'Bay. And a very restorable one which is the one I want to bring back to life someday.

Ahhhhhh.....one of my favorite Revell kits! Your paint looks pretty nice so far!8) Someday I'll have to break open one of mine as I haven't built a Camaro in many many years!

You wouldn't remember Billy, but I can remember as a kid in the '60's when these things were EVERYWHERE. In fact I got an almost daily ride in one of these 'cuz a good friend of my Mom's had one (a '58 I think). I'd like to take the one I have and turn it into a four door hardtop Rebel. I'd have to do some surgery on the front fenders as they're for an Ambassador and thus are too long. It's nice to see after all these years those old Ramblers are starting to get some recognition........in the 1:1 world and in model form.8)

a word of caution about the Revell Z06 kit
MrObsessive replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting info............ I wonder if since I use acrylic enamels if I'll have the same problem?? I normally use Krylon or Rustoleum sandable automotive primer as a base...........I may have to do a test first to see. I'm going to ask my paint place if they can mix what would normally be offered in a "lacquer"........... to be mixed in an acrylic enamel instead. -
Working scale chassis rotisserie
MrObsessive replied to Mr. Can Am Garage's topic in WIP: Model Cars
WOW! What a neat device! I think you're the first person I have ever seen build something like that in scale! It would also make it an excuse for me as to why the whole bottom of the chassis is also painted. -
When I post pics from Fotki...........I have to go to the bottom of the page where it says "Share Photo" and click on that. Copy and paste the addy of that URL and then post it here. At least on my end that's what I have to do.:? Your chop looks really slick! That's something I've never attempted to try.8)

Lookin' good so far............I need to get that Ford done so I can get to work on mine! I got a feeling this is gonna be a very popular kit at the different contests and NNL's!

Been Getting Some models ready for paint...
MrObsessive replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Some neat projects Darin! I especially like that "Barely Cuda" has a mid '60's feel to it even though the body style is '70's! 8) Question for you.................what primer do you recommend under his paint and what clear if any do you use? -
Final Update! '59 Buick.......8/13/06 Pg.4
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Pat, I think the clear maybe did brighten things up a bit.............could be the camera had onions for dinner also when I took the pic after it was originally color coated! Anyway, it does look a lot closer to the pic of the 1:1 which looks like it was taken in direct sunlight..........I may do that when the model is completely done. -
Yeah John, that is a MUST see movie for me also! I'll either see it in the theatre, or buy the DVD when it comes out. There must have been some car guys working on this one because the details in some of the couple cars I have seen (Hudson for one) are exactly right! Thanks for the mini review!

Final Update! '59 Buick.......8/13/06 Pg.4
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I got the body clearcoated using Tamiya's acrylic gloss clear (X-22)............and believe it or not it's thoroughly dry! Of course, I had a little help from the dehydrator, and I learned a few things in the process.......... First, resin bodies DO NOT like to be left in the dehydrator but for so long!! I left mine in for about an hour and I noticed a slight warpage in the body. I was able to fix this with no problem, but this reinforced the fact that I need a new dehydrator with temp control! What I did then is dry the paint in steps.........no more than 15 minutes at a time for several hours over the past week. This worked out well as I can now rub out the clearcoat and polish it. Here's a few pics............. As you can see in the last pic, this clear rubs out and polishes very nicely! It's maybe not as durable as the other types of clears.............but this model will be in a case when finished---so that's no problem. Pardon the dust the dust in those pics! I was trying to do some cleaning in the model room and overlooked some of the dust that settled in the model before the pics was taken. As you can see, I mocked up the chassis for now. The wheels on this kit were VERY fiddly! I thought that the hubcaps mount on top of the whitewalls, but that's not the case. The hubcaps mount on the inside of the separate whitewall, so that the hubcap appears flush with it. It was a bit more work to slice out the promo like tires.........but I think the result is lot cleaner otherwise. Now, I have to tackle the interior..............this is gonna be tough because I absolutely refuse to use the interior tub that came with the kit. It's for a convertible, and in this thin pillared hardtop-------it just doesn't look right! Yes, I told myself I wasn't going to be as "Obsessive" with this one....................but what can I say.......... I have a junk '59 Chevy kit interior in mind..............hmmmmmm.....that should work with some changes!8) Stay tuned.......... -
Completed 1977 Porsche 924 Martini Championship Edition
MrObsessive replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in Model Cars
Very Cool Bob! Y'know........ I've never seen that model from Monogram before--I didn't know they made that! The only 924/944 models I have seen have been from Hasegawa(?). Was that a curbside, or did it have an engine? -
2 part question
MrObsessive replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No problem Ken...............as I mentioned earlier, some punches have a little tip in the very center. You may want to file that point down so it doesn't show up on what you punch out. -
2 part question
MrObsessive replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ken, In answer to your Dullcote question.......the best answer would be to test the decals (if possible) before trying it out on your latest project. Decals can vary greatly from model company to model company, and it can all depend on the type/brand of paint also. As far as making gauge "glass" your best bet may to "punch" clear acetate for whatever size you may need. Different size punches can be found at your hardware store or maybe through Micro Mark. You may have adapt/file the punch so that it doesn't mar the surface of the acetate. I've tried the method you described and it never came out the way it should. It would get cloudy, unreadable, yucky................. you name it. The method I've described can be time consuming, but it's worth the effort! -

GREAT info Mike!! Thanks! -
Dry sump oil tank: My very first machined part
MrObsessive replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yes that helps a lot! I was wondering if that was a "gooseneck" hinge or a straight hinge...............looks like gooseneck hinges because of their radii to be able to swing upwards. I'll have to get my lathe in gear and check out my local hardware store up the road for some aluminum stock. Thanks for the pic! -

MrObsessive replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks great Ismael! Where do you get the aluminum stock BTW? That will probably be the first piece I try to make..................something that won't get lost in the carpet! Hey Ismael..............do you have any 1:1 pics of the C6's rear hatch hinges? Not the struts that hold up the hatch, but the hinges in the roof itself. If so, could you post 'em here? Thanks in advance! -
My latest toy! Wohoo!
MrObsessive replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have Fun Ismael!! I have a "Taig" mini lathe.........the motor is a little more bulky than the Sherline, the problem is I have yet to put it together! I got it off the 'bay.......but I since had to buy a new belt for it and a decent base from Taig. Like you said, once you get into machining stuff, it might become a hobby in itself! -
Nice Nice Nice!! I'm not real big into street rods........but that one on the bottom is reeeeeeealllll sweet! Hope you become a regular here man. This boards a real nice place!
