  1. I've been doing some thinking, and that can be a dangerous thing! Anyway, I talked it over with the boss of this build, and since the only main rule of this build that he (me ) will probably really enforce is the DOT road legal one, if it is alright with everyone else, I would like to finish the Ford as part of this build. I know I even used it as an example of what I wouldn't allow, but after that long talk with the boss, we decided anything but a completely finished rig can be OK, just as long as some building still needs done on the kit. Pictures will still be required of entries, just to make sure they are still in the progress stage and not finished prior to entry. Is this OK with everyone? Let me know what you think, and also if there are any objections to my Ford joining up as well. By the way, it will not have the Allison, it will have a nice normal road truck Detroit Series 60 under the hood now.
  2. OK, the first thing, is that in real life length or scale? I'm guessing that is real life length, because scale that wouldn't even make it to the trailer! I forget how long the coiled lines are on the 1:1, but I know many of those older AMT kits had the hose in there for not only air lines, but the brake lines themselves too, you just need to cut it down for the pieces your using it for. I already put the instructions away so I don't have them in front of me, but sometimes AMT had diagrams for how long each piece should be. If the instructions don't have this, and the tubing is only for the tractor to trailer air lines, cutting the section in the box in three sections of 4 and 3/4 inches will give you a straight hose of 10 feet in scale, and that sounds about right for the 1:1 lines. The coil a portion of that, starting where the line would come off the top of the pogo stick, around a nail or something similar and that will give you the two air lines for the trailer as well as the electric cord for it as well.
  3. I know, because I found those pics at 4:00 in the morning originally for your thread on the Titan along with a couple others, but by the time I was going to post them the next morning, I figured the other guys already had you steered in the right direction.
  4. You mean the pogo stick? I haven't built mine yet, but looking at the instructions, it looks like it attaches to the frame rail similar to the one in this picture. I would find a small piece of square plastic stock to put under it like the mount in the pic, then drill a couple holes in the square piece to mount the air lines into. The pogo stick, or "Hose Tenna" as the instructions say, is just to allow the air lines a place to attach to so the lines do not lay on the frame, because they can't lay on the frame by DOT regs. You can't see it well in the pic (sorry, best pic I could find), but after the air lines exit the mount, they run up the pogo stick to the springs at the top of the stick. The springs help the air lines stay off the frame when connected to the trailer and also help give them some extra "strech" when the truck and trailer is making a very tight turn. There is also a spring in the pogo stick itself for that, too. From there, the coiled parts of the lines are free from the pogo stick and either connect to the trailer or to holders for the gladhands on the cab, like these. I hope this helps answer your question, Justin.
  5. Cranky, thanks for bringing this up, and I was playing with the sign making site I put the link up to earlier, and I made a few that may interest you. There were also a couple that were on the website, too. Every place needs a safety sign, and I think Mike Rowe might work here! You need something to protect the valuables. Finally, a few ideas for the bathroom, and the last two are from the site, I only made the first one.
  6. Looking very nice so far, DW. I need to know, what are the goodies from Auslowe you have in the pic, especially the two in front of the road cones?
  7. What, are you like me where you have a one track mind that often gets derailed!?!?
  8. I found the link I saved, and here is the link for the home page. Safety signs This would be useful to anyone doing dioramas or anything needing a sign, just like the custom one I made for my truck. If you click on the "Create Custom Sign" button, that takes you to the modifiable signs, and click on the type of sign you want and that will take you to a page like this: Custom Sign link Click on the green box that says "Print a Custom Sign for free" and modify the sign however you wish, then after you have the sign the way you want, click "Preview", and that will let you save the sign as a picture file. You can also save the sign as a PDF file by going to the bottom of the screen and clicking the "Download Now" button where you see another green box that says "Free Download". There are also stock signs that you can personalize, that is how I did my "Wide Turn" sign, and that takes you to the same place as above with the sign for modifying. I also noticed at the bottom of the screen in the yellow bar, there is also a tab for free signs PDFs. It may sound complicated to make your custom signs, but it is actually quite easy, and if I can do it, anybody should!
  9. Cranky, I forget the site right now, I'll have to dig through my Favorites and make sure I saved it, but I found a sign place online where you could design your own caution type signs and such. Here is one I made for a custom big rig I'm working on I made through that site and saved the image. The picture and text are both modifiable, that sign started out as one like this.
  10. Maybe that's the truck they need to let Hugh drive next year! His favorite DOT bear would never see him coming!
  11. No problem, I guess it helps to have some high class friends!
  12. Ok found it! I hope this link will work. Facebook Carlisle Truck Pics Just in case, here are a couple of the Carlisle Peterbilts I found there. Of course, if you have trouble finding a close shade of blue, here is one you could build! EDIT: OK, it looks like you have to be logged in to Facebook to see the pics on the link. It worked while I was logged in, but after I logged out, the link comes up as a log in screen.
  13. Geoff, I'm sorry I can't really help on the paint request, the best advice I can give you there os check your local auto parts stores and see if you can find something close. However, as for the Pete 378, you would be building a Carlisle truck! I'm going to have to go through my Facebook page again, but I have Alex as a friend, and he was tagged in an album with many different Carlisle trucks. I'll try to find it again and put a link up for you, along with the Pete trucks I seen in that album.
  14. What do you mean IF?!?! They're calling for 3 to 5 inches here, and if you don't get any there, I'll gladly send you ours!!
  15. Very nice Scott. I expect to see some pics of it working in the snow tomorrow with the storm moving in.
  16. I feel probably everyone has done this to an extent, and as long as it doesn't take over a thread, I don't see it as a big deal. The only time I would see a problem is if it does take over a thread. If you think about it, look how many have built projects as an avatar. Even though it's not posted in the thread itself, every time someone with an avatar pic of their latest creation posts in a thread, it's there, right? I don't see a problem at all, I've had thread "intrusions" where someone felt they HAD to post a pic of their similar build even though I might not have asked about something requiring them to do so, and a few have actually been helpfully in solving future problems or answered future questions I might have had. On a similar note, though, I think with pics in especially the signature line, there should be a size limit or at least some unwritten etiquette used with those. Most have small thumbnail pics, but I seen one last night the pic is so big I thought it was part of the post! Thumbnail pics good, post size pics not good-get your own thread!!
  17. I'm not that big into lowriders, but this is just too COOL! I loved the video with it in action. I'd like to see more of the beddancing truck on your blog, too!
  18. Yep, the water and plastic got along great, they just need a good bath! The instructions and decals didn't like the water as much though! The only decals to survive were the peel and stick stickers in the snap kits.
  19. That's not very polite! I may never been a police officer, but I have quite a few friends who are who would be very offended by that remark!
  20. HMMMM, I never thought of that possibility, thanks Jim.
  21. I'm no police expert by any means, but I have to agree that it sounds like it might be a seizure vehicle. I know our county sheriff has a Mustang received from a seizure. There was also a department in Illinois (I think) that was on the TRU TV show "Speeders" that had a nice decked out Hummer H2 from a seizure.
  22. The funny thing is, the fastest truck I drove had neither a Detroit or a Cummins, it had a Kitty Kat!! I got nailed for almost 100 miles an hour with that old Freightshaker, it had a 3406 with a 13 behind it! By the way, I agree with the 12, but I don't have any!
