Looking nice so far Dave, at the rate you did your Titan, you should be able to build a fleet by the time this ends! Good news Clay, let's see some pics!

Revell National Model Car contest
highway replied to 2002p51's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just noticed that myself. Does that mean since I've not finished 10 kits in the past three years, I'm a novice!?!? -
Tamiya Smoke comes to mind, I think it's #X-19. A friend of mine also used window tint film once on a rear windiw in a pickup with good results. Very nice job on the t-top, too!

Justin, I think that the first one is a 180 inch, just like the one on the Ford, if I remember correctly when I found that truck. The biggest thing I found I don't like not only of that one, but the KW I posted earlier, I don't like the space between the cab and fifth wheel. It's just my personal taste, but I always liked to have the trailer line up with the front quarter fenders and at least enough space between the cab and trailer to walk between. That second one just blows my mind, kinda interesting. I've always liked the high dollar car haulers, too, they always seem to have a nice truck.

No problem, Andy, I like helping out whenever I can. You might check Walmart, I haven't bought any Bleach-White yet, but they do have it in the automotive section. Yep, Justin, my next planned custom sleeper will be a 230 inch bunk, from my research the largest custom sleeper available today. Here's a couple of pics of how I'm planning the sleeper to look like, even though I'm not sure whether it will be on a Kenworth or not.

Welcome Dennis and Dave! Blake, I updated your list to include the Dodge, and let me know if the trailer will be part of the build, too.

Revell National Model Car contest
highway replied to 2002p51's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with both of you, too. I have probably at least half a dozen of the kits on the list, a few just looking for an excuse like this to build, but since I'm not a very big fan of hot rods, why would I want to buy another JUST for the build. I also just don't see the point with the kit limits, either. I can understand since it is a Revell sponsered contest, they want Revell/Monogram branded models, but with the "Gearz" connection, they should allow anything, just as the show covers. Stacey does fine work on anything he touches, from the beautiful 32 Ford "Rat Roaster" all the way to the big Dodge 4x4 I think he calls "Sgt. Rock" he started in his Spike TV days hosting "Trucks". Come on, he even made a girly Mazda Miata a kick butt car!! -
Welding or soldering diecast metal
highway replied to sjordan2's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
You're very welcome, Skip, I'm just happy I remembered it because I filed it in the "memory bank" for truck door hinges! Ray did a wonderful job explaining it and the pictures are great reference, and just goes to show even though it was originally for truck hoods, it can be applied to just about anything. -
No Andy, the Duplicolor on the fenders, which are resin from P&P Resin Works by the way, is sprayed right over gray primer. I will give you one tip, make sure you use something like Wesltys Bleache White (I think that's the name of it) or dishwashing liquid on the resin first to make sure you clean the mold release agents of it first. I forgot this when spraying these and the frame mounted tool boxes, I got lucky with the fenders, but the primer on the boxes ran because I didn't wash them first.

What else do you collect
highway replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know you were being tongue in cheek, Pete, but that was just a question that came to mind. I like the idea of calling the the unbuilt kits an inventory, too. That's something I'd never thought of, and probably why I considered the inventory a "collection". I also agree the kit collectors always seem they have to have everything perfect, and it just doesn't matter to me, that's why no matter the kit, the shrink wrap comes off as soon as I get home. I even seen one member here asking once in the trade section for factory sealed kits only. What's the point? I think the kits he was offering were factory sealed, but demanding the same in the trade was a little over the top in my opinion. I had some of what that member wanted, but since they demanded factory sealed kit, it wasn't even worth my time trying to make a trade. I see it the same as you Pete, if all the parts are there, it doesn't make a difference if it's wrapped or not. One thing with kit collectors I've noticed too is they care about if it is an original versus a reissue. There are some kits I laugh at on ebay because the seller thinks just because it's an original issue, it's worth more. Other kit collectors may see it that way, but as a builer, why would I pay $300 for a kit of XYZ subject to build when I can by the reissue for $30! -
Robert, is there a way you could scan the decals from that kit and email them for me? I'd like to have them to build a TMC truck.

What else do you collect
highway replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't believe someone could ruin a fine diecast like that! Of course, I know about the 1:64 scale of the Daytona wreck car, it would be this one! I'm glad you like the collection, and the bad part of it is that is not even scratching the surface of the collection! I even have the 1:64 scale of his first car, the old pink #K2 Ford. I also have many of the 1:64 scale transporters. Here's just a few of those. My love of Dale Sr. even crosses back into the model collection, I have quite a few different Revell kits of many of his different cars, and at least 12 to 18 aftermarket decal sheets to build others, plus this 1:32 scale transporter, complete with cars for it to haul. -

I second that motion! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE!!!! -
That sounds like a great idea, Justin, especially for an owner operator truck. The guys who own their own rigs like keeping them clean, you can't blame them after dumping upwards of sometimes $150,000 for some trucks today. The engines in those would be just like you described, clean but not clean like the picture I posted earlier, it would be a used clean, if that makes any sense.

Brandon, DON'T BUY IT TOMORROW!!!! I just checked out the rules for the contest, and to enter, you must get an entry form from a Revell dealer, and the big part, send the entry form and A SALES RECEIPT FOR THE KIT DATED AFTER JANUARY 15, 2011!! Follow the link Bob posted and click on the contest rules, you'll see what I mean. -

I've only seen that once, and it was ebay for well over $100! I'd like to see more of the casters put out a resonably priced one, since the Coronado is one of my favorite Freightliner trucks, well right behind the Classic XL, anyway! -
Mike, I think the current issue is #153, I'd tell you for sure, but it's in the wreck of a model room right now, I've been "redecorating"!

The only other thing I could think of then is click "Stop watching topic", then click "watch topic" to reset it and see if that helps. -
Justin, the main reason everything in the pics are all tan is because Jobbers Inc is an engine rebuilder. A common practice with engine rebuilders and factories as well, at least truck engines anyways, is that they normally assemble the entire engine first before painting it. That is why everything in the pic is tan except for the fan. Rick is building his more as a road worn engine with some weathering, and along with that, some parts may have been replaced or worn over years of use. A couple of good examples of this comparing Rick's engine to the pics I posted, the alternator and starter (which I noticed is on the left on the real engine and on the right side of the kit's engine, don't know why ) could have been replaced, so they would be different colors. The exhaust manifold is another, it's painted on the rebuild, but Rick's shows what they look like after a few years on the road after the exhaust heat has burned the paint off. As for realism, that is the great thing with trucks, most anything can be concidered real. Parts colors can vary since it might be a new part on an old engine, parts makers might paint a part where others might be bare aluminum or other metal finish, and drivers might even add their own little custom touches. I know, even though I drove company owned trucks, I added little custom touches to my rigs just to be apart from the crowd. One company, even though they had a strict policy against it, complemented me on the vinyl lettering I added to my company truck and the time I took to paint the lettering on my tires with a paint pen so I was the only company truck running raised white letter tires! Just goes to show some rules can be broken!

Pete, I see your point, because I'm a builder, too. I don't care if I'd buy the rarest, most expensive factory sealed kit I could find on ebay, as soon as the kit would hit my grubby hands, that shrink wrap is GONE!! But I have to ask this as a builder, do you not call all your unbuilt kits your "collection"? All of my unbuilt kits are my collection, because I've collected them through the years. I'm not sure how you see it, but I kinda see it this way, I collect unbuilt kits I'm going to build one day, but I don't "collect" them for their monetary value. -
By the way, here is an example of what you can find on the Jobbersinc site, these are pics of the Cummins NH 250 that is in the Freightliner kit from their site.
