highway replied to diymirage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I need him to come to my house and find the light lens I'm missing!!! -
Exactly!! Heck, one of my lowboys is still in it's shrink wrap, and the two tractors I'm planning on using aren't even out yet!
-
Looking very nice so far, Chris.

Not a problem, Nick, no rush!

Here's a thread from not too long ago that should answer all your questions on annual kits, Robert. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=39036

I brought that up, did you guys miss it? -
Yeah, I think they are in the 90 version of that kit, too. If you need some Tom, I'm pretty sure I have a set I'm not going to use.

It needs more lights, too!!! That way when I'm trying to back in the spot beside you, I can get on the CB and say in true chicken hauler fashion "Driver, could you please turn off your bumper, I can't see!!!" -

Drew, at least in my opinion, I don't think it's more about not the cars being the same, but looking the same as well, regardless of brand. I frankly don't care about it myself, but maybe subconsciously I do, because I think the best thing I seen last season was when the Nationwide Series ran their so called COT, and it was quite nice seeing Dodge Challengers and Ford Mustangs on the track. At least they looked more like the stock car than the Fusion or the Charger, and also did have some long lost brand identity. I also think that might also be the reason for the lack of whining about the IROC cars, other than the fact they didn't race nearly the amount of races NASCAR does. Even though they were the same cars, they still had that critical brand identity. The Camaro looked like the street Camaro and the later Trans Ams looked like the street Trans Am. -

I'd never heard of that, but I'm not doubting it either, because I believe one time I heard MG also mentioned as another one of them "ferin" cars that raced in the early days of NASCAR. -

Mark, you could not hit the nail any harder on the head! I'm not sure if anyone else watches the Science Channel, but their show "How It's Made" had a segment on recently (not sure when, I watched it a couple nights ago cleaning out the DVR) that covered how NASCAR engines are made, and more specifically Roush/Yates Ford engines. What surprised me the most, being a lifelong NASCAR fan, was what they started with to build the engine, RESIN! I'm not sure if the entire engine gets built this way, because all the show profiled was the making if the intake manifold, but it started as a CAD drawing and the intake was "printed" in resin just like TDR Innovations makes their resin bodies and kits for us. If you happen to get a chance to watch this episode in a rerun, it would be worth the time to watch! -
Model Truck Big Wreck
highway replied to ewaskew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I'm sorry to hear your great work was destroyed, Earl. I love cats and have four of my own, but I think if one of mine ever destroyed one of my projects, I'd make an exception!! Luckily, only one ever even goes into my model area, but mostly it's when I'm there to supervise, this is the closest she's ever gotten to a partially completed build. In the odd chance the kitten does ever comes back for a visit, here's a couple tips to avoid another tragedy in the future, and how I trained all four of my "kids" to stay away from my building desk and any other areas they are not allowed. The first is get one of those cheap dollar store spray bottles and fill it with water. When the kitten goes near some place you don't want it to be, give it a squirt or two of water from the bottle, as long as there is nothing electronic or such that can be destroyed by a missed spray. Also, the closer to the forehead, the better. This might sound mean, but after we got our three youngest "kids", our vet suggested this as a very effective training tool, and it does work well. They associate the area with something they hate, since most cats hate water, and if they know they will get a spray of water jumping on a certain area, they stay away. Another idea if the area is away from where you might not be aware the kitten is going, say in a basement area while you're upstairs or a different room from where you are, is a boundary spray. Spray some of this before the kitten comes to visit whereever you don't want it going, it's supposed to have a scent that is not pleasant to the kitten, but is unnoticed by human smell. The only downfall is if the kitten is visiting for more than a day, you must retreat the areas every 24 hours. -
what did you do while the board was down?

You too!!!! I didn't know the better half took this picture of me last night! -
Bill and Brandon, just don't forget to give us a pic here and there of your builds, too! You don't have to post every pic, just one here and there. Oh, and Bill, with you building a wrecker, of course I'd be interested!

I'm surprized no one has mentioned one of the most obvious TV shows related to model building, James May's "Toy Stories". One entire episode focused on Airfix, and they built a 1:1 scale Airfix Spitfire. -

They must have stole them from an earlier issue when we actually had tire lettering in kits! -

I was a Firestone commercial, and the late 60s/early 70s Corvette had Firstone Wide Oval tires on it. -

Also, don't forget they have used many models in the small scale tests. The few that come to mind off the top of my head is an Italeri truck and trailer and Monogram's 87 T-Bird for the drafting trucks saves you gas myth, a Revell of Gemany Container ship for an ocean whirlpool myth, and various diecasts and R/C cars for many of the other auto related myths. -
Yeah, Chris, I agree with James, even if the curve ball of life has you to where you can't work on anything until Labor Day, you'd still have 4 months to get finished, and that's assuming I don't extend the deadline!

No sliding in under the wire here, George, you have plenty of time! Welcome aboard, and I have the list updated. I git the Ford added for you, Justin. I had a strange feeling you might be starting on one of these.
