Actually Justin, that is this forum in the pic, I just wanted to show the Scale Auto people the best forum on the web is where I spend most of my time! The reason it might look different from yours is I have my view set to "Comfy". You can change the look of the forum here to suit you, if you look in the bottom left corner of any page, you will see a box that, in your case, says "IP Board", and it's right next to the box that says "English". If you click on the arrow next to where it says "IP Board", it will give you a drop down menu of the skins available. If you select the "Comfy" skin, yours will look just like what I have on my laptop.

That is a good idea, but for the CBP it's in, it just is not a possibility, Winston. The CBP is ending tonight and I just don't have the time, not to mention the snow is flying here and painting is off until spring! Thanks for another great idea, Kevin. I was even thinking of just finishing the body goodies and saying the engine was in the sleeper, but I just can't lie like that! I was thinking of moving it back, because the front engine mount is sitting on the the bottom of the frame rail where I wanted it to sit, and without the carbs on the front, the rear of the valve covers did fit under the cab because it allowed the rear of the engine to clear the cab mounts. I just tried the only other open frame area, which is under the cab, and there just is not enough room between the cab mounts and first frame crossmember to fit. If it were earlier in the build I could have had the engine double as some of the stiffening crossmembers I added in the frame! Thanks to both of you for the great ideas, but just not enough time left. Oh well, I wanted a regular truck engine in it anyway, the Allison was going to be removed after the CBP anyway!

I'm not sure if your spelling is correct, according to the spell check you are. Anyway, on the serious side, you are correct that acetate can be used for making windows, and I know Evergreen Plastics does make clear sheets, but I'm not sure if that is what everyone considers acetate or not. You can find Evergreen at a well stocked local hobby shop or the big chain stores like Hobbytown USA. I have some clear Evergreen that is .015 thick just for backup window making. Another thing you might concider too is the clear blister packs almost everything comes in nowadays, I've used this in a pinch a time or two for windows. All you need to do is find a piece that is in nice condition and large enough for the window you're making. It works and is thin enough to shape around curves, I would suggest cutting it slightly larger than the original so you have some extra gluing surface. Also, you mentioned you need this for a GTX. Would it happen to be Revell's 67 Plymouth GTX? If so, I may even be able to help you out with the windows from the kit. I have one I received in a trade that was partially built and I was planning on making a demo derby car. I'm not sure if the windows are installed or not, but if they aren't and in good shape, you're more than welcome to them. PM me if that's the kit you need them for.

Well everyone, the Ford did not get finished for it's CBP, the Allison was just too much engine and would not fit without major modification. Since that build is finished as of this evening, I just don't have time to make the major mods I have to make. It would need major cab mount mods, and I'm not messing up the frame (or it's $20 paint job!) to do it. Anyway, I might be making modeling history being the first to start a rebuild before the first build was even finished! HMMMMM, I wonder if the boss of this CBP would let me enter it here, just with a normal road truck engine in it!?!?
-
Well, this has got to be the hardest post I've had to make in this thread, but a relieving one too. I just officially withdrew from the CBP on the other site. I have a major fit issue with the Allison, and with the build ending tomorrow (well, later this evening now), I just don't have the time to heavily modify the cab mounts and floor to make it fit. The cows are not happy with me either, they were really looking forward to mooooving to California! Bessie Lou is very upset, because it means she has to get back out of the trailer! If you look close, you can almost see the tear in Bessie Lou's eye! Well, I guess this might just be a first in the history of model forums, has anyone started a rebuild before the first WIP was even complete!?!? Now I just have to dig up a Series 60 Detroit for under the hood, or maybe an old Detroit V8 or V12! At least now I can put all the shiny stuff on I wanted and also be able to wait for warm weather for some of my resin bits to be sprayed with Alclad.

I hope the rears hold out, I had them specially built to handle the power! I'm glad you're having fun watching this, but you should see the ideas when I really start sniffing the glue! Oh, and they are dairy cows, because the whole plan of me and my friends with the rides I posted earlier was to have the goodies for the after race party! I was going to carry the milkshakes, the friend with the green truck was hauling a reefer full of hamburgers and such along with fine adult beverages, and the one building the KW was going to haul the BBQ grill on the deck of his lowboy!
-
Oh yeah, I figure 200 MPH should be no problem, so I should have no reasons for being late! The Allison was not actually my first choice, I was going to try to stuff a Detroit V16 from the Payhauler in it, but it was WAY to big! Then a few of my friends decided to join the build, and they ended up getting the Allisons, and just happened to get an extra one for me. Here's what they were thinking of entering, unforunately they were both unable to complete theirs. This was one of them, and the other, which between the three of us came up with the wild idea of putting two Allisons in the sleeper! Mine is mild compared to theirs, but at least mine can be converted back to a road truck with a normal engine after the race!
-
You know, Bessie Lou and Bessie Sue were just talking about that! They are waiting impatiently for their ride to have the finishing touches added so they can start their trip to California tomorrow! As for those finishing touches, I'm in a mad thrash to get this done, at least in it's race form, for the end of the Cannonball Run themed CBP it's in on that other site that comes to an end tomorrow. I know some of you got on my case because I wouldn't tell you the super secret power plant because lurkers from that site who post here too would find out. Well, wait no more, because I have officially announced it, and anyone paying attention in my Truck CBP here already had a sneak peak to the answer! OK, for those who didn't see the announcement already, the powerplant for this is, drumroll please, an ALLISON V12 AIRCRAFT ENGINE!!! I'll have some pics of it in a little while!
-
No, but they might soon!
-
I agree, and those wheels are just great! Where did you ever find them!?!?! I shouldn't laugh much, because other than the two planes I finished for the Jairus race plane build, me "Class of 2010" looks the same!
-
Well, the theme for that CBP is a Cannonball Run race, so I need some big power to haul cows at 200 MPH!
-
That's funny, I have stuff getting ready to come out of the strip tank! I just wanted to let everyone know, too, if I don't answer a post quickly in the next day or so, I'm on a mad thrash to finish this beast for the CBP it's in on another forum. Unfortunately, it will not be finished as I would like it to be before the deadline tomorrow, I'm just not going to rush it and mess it up finishing little final details like "chicken" lights, but it will be finished enough to compete in the CBP! Who knows, I might just do a slight rebuild on it for this build, but I'll have to change engines so I can follow my own rule of being road legal! For those of you taking part in this build that have been following the WIP of my Ford, you guys are the lucky ones who actually find out the super secret power plant I'm going to the bench right now to stuff under the hood of this beast, because I'm not even announcing it in the WIP until later. Under the hood of this beast will live an Allison V12 aircraft engine!

What is your dream model kit?
highway replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would have to say my dream kit would not be narrowed down to just one, I would like to see ANY diesel powered heavy duty modern pickup. I don't really care if it would be a Chevy, Dodge, or most preferrably a Ford, just something with a nice diesel powerplant and also preferrably a 4x4 one ton dually. Of course, my dream kit for right now is the coming soon Moebius International Lonestar truck! -
Rick, I have you updated and Chris, I put you on the list.
-
The way it looked it a few of those picks, you could use one about now!!

I think you're right Michelle, I think "Christmas Comes to Willow Creek" was not long after the Dukes went off the air, and the "Yellow Bird" was my most favorite part of the movie, even though Tom and John weren't bad either. Being a fan of the Dukes and having an older brother driving rigs, it was just one of those natural favorites for me. I still even remember how I spent my Friday nights back in those days, "Dukes of Hazzard" at 8 PM and "Knight Rider" at 9 PM! Of course another trucking movie (and short lived TV series) that I loved growing up was "The Highwayman". The truck was just too cool! It even transformed into a helicopter! And if no one figured it out, that is where I got my handle from!

You're welcome, and I know what you mean, many years ago I had a set of the Super Swampers from them, and they were way ahead of the times!
-
I'm not sure, but I think Satco has long since gone by the wayside. You might want to check with Alan at Ma's Resin, he makes some nice wheels and tires, and I found these on his Fotki site, they may work for you. Wide White Wall Slicks He does not have a website, but you can view his products on his Fotki site, and he posts here under the screenname "cnaind".

Parts Box Ford Monster Truck
highway replied to highway's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Well, I gotta keep everyone guessing, don't I!?!? I'm not really that sure what scale it is Chris, I think it may be a cab from one of the old Monogram High Roller kits, so I'd guess 1/24 scale. I might just have to see what parts you might have, because I'll be darned if I can find the interior! For all I know, it might still be in my friend's parts box I robbed the cab from! -

highway replied to Dave Metzner's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
TIme for me to pick my tongue up off the floor and replace the keyboard I just drooled on! Simply BEAUTIFUL!!!! -
Sure thing Rick, just let me know what you're building and post the pic of what you will be starting with and I'll put it in the list.
-
Welcome Bill, and of course you can join up, there are plenty of spaces to fill at the MCM Truck Stop! I want to see a lot of pics for your rollback conversion, I have a cab and chassis of one of these I was going to do the same thing on! I will add you to the list. There is a due date, but it is not until Dec. 31, 2011, so you have plenty of time.

Thanks for digging this thread up Justin, I forgot I even posted this! -
X2!!
