  1. Great thread TJ! Even though I figure this is more for the real ones rather than models, I seen you threw in a few diecasts, too. I have this old 1:87 scale B Model Mack I figured I'd add in. Sorry I don't have any real pics! Sorry for the poor quality pic, too, this was taken before I learned how to use the Macro function on my camera! I'll try to get some better pics later!
  2. Welcome to the forum, Gregg! Now, on to your questions, first I noticed you had a question mark behind snaptite. Even though Revell doesn't brand it as a Snaptite, it was exactly that in previous issues of the kit, as is the recently reissued Kenworth Aerodyne. Next, the engine color could either be white or Cat yellow. I normally paint my engines based on engine manufacture, but I've learned reading the replies of the great modelers here that, back in the era of the 359, Peterbilt painted all the engines white, regardless of the engine make. Italeri makes a modern reefer trailer, but I have found it has many inaccuracies, again thanks to the great builders here, and may be more work than you might want to tackle in your first truck build. I found out from the others the trailer is too short, it only measures 12 foot 6 inches in real height, and it takes two kits to modify it right. Madd trucker (Richard) sent me a copy of an article from an old MCM that explains the modification process, I'm sure either of us would be more than happy to send you a copy if you would choose to tackle the Italeri modification. On the other hand, though, AMT made both Great Dane and Freuhauf trailers in reefer versions, but these kits have been out of production for many years. They do pop up on Ebay quite a bit, but most that are still factory sealed sell usually in the $40-$50 range. They don't require the modifications like the Italeri kit, but since they are 1970s era kits, they are only 40 foot trailers. The Freuhauf trailer may drop in price slightly on Ebay, since AMT is reissuing the Freuhauf trailer near the end of this year, but it is supposed to be the dry van kit. I have heard one or two people say the reefer parts are supposed to be included, too, but I have not heard any firm truth to that, so expect only the dry van parts. The older reefers included with those old kits would not be that difficult to scratchbuild, though. Again, welcome, and I look forward to seeing some pictures of your truck soon.
  3. No problem. That's the biggest thing I hate with the no name tires in kits nowadays, back when they still had sidewall markings, they had the little rotation arrows on the unidirectional tires. You could always look at the sidewall to see which way the tire was supposed to be mounted.
  4. That's the type I have my brake fluid in now, the shoebox type size with the snap on lid. Thanks for the info again, Mark. I just might have to start using CSC.
  5. Thanks for the info, Mark. As I said in my reply you quoted, my friend does have his "purple pond" in an old pot, and that pot is metal! That would explain a lot. I use plastic Rubbermade containers for my brake fuild stripper I often call "Lake Brake", and have had the brake fluid in one of them for almost three years now. Could I do the same with CSC or Purple Power? I have wanted to use either, because I know it does a super job compaired to brake fluid, but have always been discouraged from using it because of the smell of my friends "purple pond".
  6. Thanks, and, as I said in the post above yours, I don't actually use the stuff because I can't stand the smell, but a friend of mine does. That might have been some of the confusion, too, because he uses the CSC, but he also refers to his "purple pond" as purple power.
  7. Yeah, and use in a well ventilated area, too, because it has harsh chemical fumes, too. A friend of mine uses CSC for a stripper in an old pot with a glass lid. He took the lid off it one night while I was there, and it almost made me sick!
  8. I think the Purple Power is actually a product call Castrol Super Clean, or CSC for short. I don't know about up there, but it is readily available here in the states at most auto parts stores.
  9. Ok, thanks for the info, because I was getting confused, which doesn't take much! I was thinking maybe they were doing it in 1:16 scale, too, since this thread is about the 1:16 scale General Lee coming out later in the year.
  10. Greg, is it going to be the 1:16 or 1:25? I seen you started another thread that says the ghost one is going to be 1:25 with the same quote as above.
  11. She isn't the one they show on the reality video shows parking on top of the other cars in the parking lot, is she?!?!

    C-5 Vette

Thanks for jogging my memory, Lee. I think that might be what mine was, too. Now maybe I can paint my hood, it looks really funny red with a white hood!
  13. That is a beautiful Wright Flyer, Pete. Also, I'm no "egg"spert, but is that supposed to be a P38 Lightning?
  14. Thanks for the info. Would you have any contact info for him?
  15. Yeah, Lewis has a great shot, too. I like Jenson more, though, his domination at the beginning of last season was the thing that got me hooked on F1!! I've not missed a single race since.
  16. It's on the main forum page in the Model Cars section. It's about the fourth section from the bottom, and it's just like posting in any other section.
  17. OOPS!!! I guess I should have read it a little closer rather than look at the pretty pictures! Sorry, Ray, but now that Jim has me out of my jackknife , Ray, PLEASE DON'T delele the pics in there.
  18. Nice job!! I have the "Papa Truck" version on the "to do" shelf. By the way, where do you get the Mo'Luminum products? The only place I've ever seen them was Saurkrout's, but it always seem they are always out of the good stuff like that!
  19. WOW, Jim, that is a great thread! Please DO NOT EVER delete the pics in it, I saved the thread to my favorites for future reference! I seen I got some more edgimication for skateboarding, both me and Jamie were right, we both just need more chains! Do you have any on vehicle securement, to see if I was doing that wrong, too, when I hauled wrecks on a Landoll trailer?
  20. That is a nice build. Is the orange just the old run of the mill Testor orange? The new Camaro wheels look great on it, nice restomod look. I did notice, though, you might want to swap the sides the tires are on. It looked to me like the tread pattern is running oppisite of the way it should. I might be wrong, but I always thought the point of the "V" in the tread pattern was supposed to face the way the tire would rotate driving forward.
  21. Looking nice, Jamie! One bit of advise, cross the chains in the eye of the coil!! If you have a chain break, you ain't making nothing on either load! Seriously, though, many years ago I built the flatbed and used it's coil load, even though I had mine loaded shotgun style with the eye going front to back instead to side to side (which is called suicide, btw) like yours. I had the chains like yours are, but going to the same side rail because of the way mine were loaded, and did I ever here about it! I built the truck and finished it the night before the club I was in was having a display of the scale truckers works in the group at the local 1:1 truck show. My brother, who was a steel hauler, just happened to come to the house that night and I thought I'd show him the truck. The first words out of his mouth was "You have the coils chained down wrong, you should have the chains crossing from one side rail to the other, crossing them in the eye." Of course, the next day at the truck show, I had many truckers compliment me on the model, even had one offer to buy it, but all the skateboards added to their compliments, "You know the coils are chained wrong?".
  22. I think it might be nice to have some nice pics of your Charger in the 1:1 Reference section!!
  23. Now see, wouldn't it been better to see Mark Weber take flight, roll, almost knock down the wall, then get out of the car and walk away!!! I think you need to stick with F1 and cheer your fellow countryman Jenson Button to a second championship! Take it easy and get well soon.
  24. Thanks, I thought it looked familiar.
