Since Mark used my description, I'll go with SUPERB!!
-
You sound about like me! I have my enigne almost all together, so does that mean I'm farther along than you are?
-
Thanks Jim for bringing this topic back up, because the status is, uh, I forgot about it! I will see how many names I've got to add to it, and since this has been unburied, maybe a few more names can be added to the list! I also have this posted on the SA site as well, I'll have to see how many names I got from there as well, and maybe revive it there to see if any more will add on there, too. Thanks again, Jim, and I'll give everyone an update by this weekend.

Yeah, I seen that, but I think he wanted that was complete and UNASSEMBLED!!! He would probably freak if I offered him this one!

looking for a resin part.

I'm not that familiar with the Air Raid box, but I know the Revell new GT500 and 06 GTH Mustangs have a cold air style intake box in them. Maybe one of those might work? -
Brian, I wish you luck on the van if you do decide to restore it. At least you don't have as much work ahead as I do with this one. Believe it or not, I found this at my LHS! They had bought some old kits from an estate sale or something, and I seen it one the shelf screaming "Take me home!", so I asked the guy to get it off it's high shelf. After I opened it and seen this, I got sick! At least, after the guy at the HS seen it, he told me to take it home, no charge! By the way, I'm not trying to rob your thread, I just wanted to show you there's even worse builders out there than the one who put the van together!

I agree, and at least you were brave enough to do one, that's farther than I've gotten!

Ford CL9000 & Reefer Trailer
highway replied to chuckyr's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
No problem! I have to agree, those are some nice kits, I have the AMT Reefer. I seen one Revell's website the old snap 1/32 scale Mack R and tanker are supposed to be reissued later this year, I can't wait! I think the only thing Monogram could have done better on theirs was the fifth wheel and kingpins. I always hated that big post sticking out of the Monogram fifth wheels! -
You know, I'm REALLY going to be disappointed if you tell me the key doesn't unlock the door and the push button doesn't open the door! Of course, I'm kidding with you! That would be a nice addition to the hinge tutorial, though.

my next truck
highway replied to toplessfury's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I drove a couple 70s trucks that didn't even have the blue valve. By the way, and this is embrassing coming from someone with well over a million miles and 12 years experience, but what was the blue valve for? I know it had a use back in the day, but all but the previously mentioned 70s trucks, all I've driving is late 90s up. -

Or a couple 360s down the hill! -
I'm liking the trailer so far. It kinda has that old school moving van style look to it, very appropriate to go with the truck.
-
Wow, a little too rich for my blood right now, of course unless a certain magazine is hiring! I did notice they also have the 1/24 and 1/25 scale bodies, too. That would be exactly what I need to convert my AMT 67 kit to the "E" I've always wanted to build. Don't worry, though, I'm still going to watch how this one turns out!

Ford CL9000 & Reefer Trailer
highway replied to chuckyr's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice, Chucky! The Ford is one of the very few cabovers I like. That is very difficult to even tell that it's a 1/32 scale snapper, it looks clean enough to be a 1/24 scale kit. -
Need a source for these Polly S / Polly Scale paints
highway replied to Monty's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Have you tried any of your LHSs that deal mostly in model trains? One of the LHSs in my area has both a nice selection of model trains and model kits, and they carry Polly Scale paints. I would say since the Polly Scale paints are geared more toward model railroaders, the model train LHS would be my first stop. I do think my LHS does do mail order, here's a link to them: http://www.tandkhobby.com/index.aspx If you can't find it on the site, there is a toll free number on the home page. I'd give them a call, and they are great to deal with! I should know, I've been dealing with them ever since I started building 25 years ago! -
Gregg, that looks beautiful! How much does it sell for? Miss "E" (hehe I like that) has always been one of my favorites. I definitely want to see that pau! Go on, get building, Big Kahuna! You are painting her the way she should be, aren't you? By the way, see, I'm picking up a little island lingo!

Nice job, Jamie. I like the sleeper, that's a nice modern day touch to that old rig! -
I was not knocking it at all!! It's a nice unique idea for a unique build! I though maybe you had them connected, since I only seen the one filter.
-
That's a cool idea. That is especially nice for those who take pride in the vehicle, I know I would be beaming with pride if I could open the hood and say "I built the engine myself". Of, course, on the other hand, if it breaks down, and you say "I'd like to kill the guy who built this engine! Oh, wait, yeah, I built it." Also, if I built my own engine in my new car, I think instead of paying $5,000 to do it, a $5,000 rebate would be a sweeter deal.

One of those days
highway replied to Madd Trucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep, been there, done that!! I've already had that a couple times with my big Ford and the livestock trailer I'm working on. There's also been quite a few days I see something picworthy, and of course, I'm STILL not smart enough to take the camera with me when I leave the house! -
That is a cool idea!! I'd guess maybe the bottle is an overflow bottle for the radiator. I want to know about the oil filter setup, though! Is the oil system one system for both engines??

If you look really close, the wing with the wheel on the ground looks lower, too. That would say to me the force on the wheel is probably bending the wing down, where the wing in the air is in its normal position. Just think of it with a car with a misadjusted brake, the car will be pulled to the side the brake is sticking. The wheel on the ground is the sticking brake in this case, and the force on the landing gear would be twisting that wing backward, thus making it look like the engine is lower. -
Congrats!!! I'm happy to hear you are still doing the trailer, too. I look forward to seeing some pics soon.
