looking for a resin part.
highway replied to Ken#5fan's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I'm just the opposite! I've got the kit, but I have no mold rubber to cast it. I have plenty of resin, just nothing to make the mold with. -
X2!

Jose, Ken said he needed this style. It is the one in the GT-H kit, and may have been in the KR kit as well. I have the one in the GT-H, but unfortunately it is the only one I have and I don't have a way to cast it right now. -
Nice pics, Jon! They wiil help for reference! NOW WILL SOMEONE PLEASE POST PICS OF THE KIT!!!!!!!

Jim, check this thread out: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33605 I used the Bondo Spot & Glaze putty mentioned several times in that thread with very good results.

So What is Your All Time Favorite Big Trucks
highway replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ok, now that I got a little joking out of my system, here are my all time favorites, all after the first one is in no particular order. Freightliner Classic XL Condo, I drove two or three of these throughout my career, and love them! Freightliner FLC, the 70's and early 80's models like the newly reissued Italeri kit Kenworth W900, any years from the 70's to today Ford LTL 9000, who couldn't guess?!? Mack Superliner Mack R Models Peterbilt 379, especially the last X models Peterbilt 359 International 4300 International 9300 International 9900, 9900i International Lonestar GMC General Chevy Bison Western Star, but not the aero ones any big wrecker If you couldn't already tell, I'm a big, rugged, square hood type of guy! There's nothing like a big square hood with the aerodynamics of a brick to get my blood pumping. Don't get me wrong, I do have a few (very few) cabovers I like, and even drove one or two. I just like that big hood sitting out in front of me, because I never wanted to be the first one to the accident! Here's my small list of cabovers I do like. Kenworth K100 Peterbilt 352 Peterbilt 362 White Freightliner, like AMT's dual drive kit International Transtar II Of course, I have to agree with Gary, I like the old B Model Macks in the antique category. The old Kenworth like the little Revell kit with the rounded nosed Freuhauf flatbed and missle is all that bad, either. -
So What is Your All Time Favorite Big Trucks

What's the problem with a large sleeper and gobs of extra chrome!?!? I think a big sleeper fits my Ford pretty good, and the extra chrome will add "bling"! Don't take it serious, Gary, I'm just yanking your chain. Ok, all joking aside, I like the addition of chrome and more lights than a Christmas tree, but that's me. Of course, even chrome and light crazy me likes a nice plain jane KW now and then! -
Help with an International
highway replied to Railfreak78's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Brian, Eric (Porky) has a hood for that on his site. http://www.ppvintagekits.com/RESIN-WORKS/RESIN-TRUCK-PARTS.html I would say from the pic, you could use the 4300 kit for the cab, and as for the sleeper, I'm not sure if there are any of those style tops out there. I think cargostar (hope that's the right screenname!) has a couple WIP threads here on International masters he was working on, maybe they might help. -
I knew it was dry and hot out there in AZ, but not that bad!!! I know Eric beat me to the punch, but I just couldn't help myself!
-
Hey Brian, were you aware the ends of the white tank are on the wrong sides? You asked why no one let you know that, so I just did!!!
-
Jason, I love that cowl hood! Awesome work!

If it could roll, it needs to be rolled over the nearest cliff!!!

I also have been using the red Bondo Spot & Glaze putty for a little while and have been having good results from it. I did find if you are trying to use it in a large area, though, it isn't very good, but it is great for seams and smaller areas. The way I found it was not great for large areas was in trying to use it to shape the roof of this sleeper I modified to the shape of the original parts. The original roof has a slight curve in the roof top, and I just could not get the red putty to take the shape, so I used regular Bondo. As you can see by the red spots, though, they is still plenty of the red putty in the sleeper, too!

Build off ideas
highway replied to remingtonbox's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, no biggie, I have a few other wild ideas! I do hope to see you finish it, it did sound like an awesome idea. Oh, I seen this in your sig line: Proud member: IPMS Denver Rob Wolf I thought that was your name. -
I'm happy I could help you get this project rolling, Doc. I'd like to know where that hobby shop is, because to find that kit on the shelf is simply amazing, that kit hasn't been released since the early 90s! A shop that has 15-20 year old kits on the shelf is definitely a jewel to find! Of course, I guess that puts the idea of us trading kits down the drain! I'm happy you found that kit and it will be a much better donor, and you get the added plus of the pit accessories. As for getting it under the body, I'd suggest assembling the frame and rollcage before you do any painting. I do that with all my NASCAR frames and then paint it as one unit. Of course, do whatever cutting and trimming you have to do first. A few projects like this that I have done, I usually cut a little at a time, test fit it, and cut and sand some more, then repeat it until I get the fit just right. Since it sounds like you already have the body painted, just cover the outer surfaces near where you might need to sand some of the inner body down with some masking tape. That should help protect your paint job and still allow you to trim the inner thickness of the body down to help the fit of the frame. I'd suggest, too, maybe use the 3m Blue painters low tack tape to do that so the tape doesn't lift the paint off after you're done. If you need any more help, feel free to ask me, I'll try to help you the best I can!

That is an impressive view count for an impressive model, Rommel! And I though 4,309 (as of posting this) views on my Ford big rig WIP was a lot! -
Suggestions on widening truck fenders
highway replied to impcon's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I think someone mentioned this in your other post, but Dencon Resin (Matt posts here!) has a 1950 Big Job Ford cab and wide fenders. I know the 50 is not the same as the 53-56 you want to build, but since the fenders are sold separately, you might be able to use them and the 53-56 kits fenders to make the fenders you want. Here is a link to Matt's Classic Truck parts page: http://www.denconresin.com/classictruck.html -
Looks like you got them working now! That old Mack looks very unique with that sleeper, very nice choice.

I thought that screenname looked familiar!! Now you see why I keep saying it is going to have a super secret engine! I know there are more than a few who are in that CBP over at SA that are here, too. That's the only thing I even keep up with anymore on SA is the Cannonball, it's much more fun over here. Of course, as work progresses, I'll do like I've been doing with build updates, but no one will understand until the secret is unveiled there why this truck is Bonneville worthy! In case any of you didn't check out the link I posted for Rob, here's the truck I've been talking about. I do have a little head start, but, as Rob said, I started this for a CBP on SA's site, and I still have a ways to go on this, because lately I've been working on the trailer it will be pulling in the other site's Cannonball race. I won't be running the trailer in Bonneville, though! By the way, Rob, what ever happened to your entry over there? It sounded like an interesting idea.
