Help wanted with engine ID
highway replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you look closely at the instructions above, the detached engine is also from the C1500 kits, it is the standard small block for the non 454SS trucks. As for the antilock brake box and shorter air intake hose, those are also for the 454SS. Everything in the opening post's pics are for AMT's Chevy C1500 trucks, the manual transmission equipped engine is the 350 and the automatic equipped is the 454, and the small sprue in the second pic with the 350 are actually all parts for the 454SS version. -

B.R.B.O BJ and The Bear Custom
highway replied to highway's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I did, and I know from a friend that has used it before it can be fragile. That's why I'm hoping that their clear coat will help in durability. I'm going to try it on something small first, since this will also be the first time I have ever used an airbrush for anything. -
B.R.B.O BJ and The Bear Custom
highway replied to highway's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Here is the May update, hopefully not the only one of the month, but thanks to an upper respiratory infection giving me a few unwanted days off work yesterday and today (so far) and getting bored watching TV and playing on the computer, I decided to try to spend a little time at the bench. I got a set of Moebius Big Rig wheels and tires to replace the kit wheels and tires, mainly because the kit wheels are showing their age and the chrome is not really chrome anymore and wasn't plated very well to begin with. They almost fit the kit axle stubs, but almost is the operative word, so I came up with an idea to fill the small size difference and maybe add a little if probably never seen detail to the wheels, using the kits wheel backs as brake drums. The top is the kit wheel back, and the bottom is the modified "drum". This is a VERY rough idea of the paint detailing I'll put into the drums after I get all of them modified and painted with the frame. And finally, a quick mock up of the frame wearing a few of its new shoes. I also got a bottle of Alclad Polished Aluminum and Alclad Gloss clear coat at the same place I bought the wheels from, I'm hoping that will prevent the issue of the fingerprint that is occurring in the roof of not only this but my big Ford's trailer as well. The "Chrome" paint I used wanting that nice shiny look for everything is driving me nuttier than I already am! I did see in an old thread that got new life from the time around when I started my Ford another idea for the shiny aluminum look I want too, I just need to find something that will give me the shiny look I want and with the protection of a clear coat and not dull to a dull silver in the process the way the "Chrome" does. -

Yes, it is just painted straight over the white plastic the kit was molded in. -
Question on the Eliminator Coupe
highway replied to DrKerry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well, finally found the USB cables where I thought I wouldn't forget where I put them! It may be a little more on the brown side, but I think maybe with a gloss coat over it, it may brighten up closer to the color in the original pic you posted. I might just have to pull my Eliminator off the shelf and experiment! This is Tamyia XF 9 Hull Red. -

As soon as I remember where I put my USB cables I got tired of seeing hanging out of the front of my computer! -
Meng F-350 Bumpers

Would it be possible to do something like this? I have an idea for a highly customized one, and I want it to say "I hit you, it WILL hurt"!!! -
Resin 4WD Dually Wheels
highway replied to mikemodeler's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Mike, there is no difference in a dually wheel. This is my 1:1 1990 F350 4x4, and it has the same wheels as the Monogram/Revell F350 kit. The only difference is not in the wheel itself, but the hub the wheel mounts to. The F350 kit wheels have a two wheel hub with a grease cap, where my 1:1 has the locking hub, but the wheels themselves are exactly the same. You didn't say what type of truck it's for, but the Chevy and Dodge dually kits from AMT both have center caps on there front wheels, and both of them (and some Fords too I believe, mine has locking because it is a heavy duty chassis cab when born) had auto locking hubs so those kit wheels would be for either 2WD or 4x4s. As for rear wheels, all three kits have wheels that would be on both. And another option for wheels for duallys that would "hide" a front hub for a Ford dually would be wheels like this on the Ford Super Cruiser... ....or off a 1/32 scale truck kit that has the chrome center caps over the hubs or a cheap diecast like these two. The 1/32 scale may actually scale out to a 17" or 18" wheel, but still are close alternatives considering the New Ray diecasts in the above pic usually are around $10 for a cab. -
They hiring!?!? Who wants to help me move my stash!?!?! They closest things I ever drove even close to sounding that nice was a 74 Western Star wrecker running a 444 Big Cam and 6 inch straight pipes and my old Werner Classic XL with a Detroit Series 60 after the mufflers burned out! The old wrecker was fun to drive downtown, you knew it was coming because of the car alarms going off, especially with the little burp of the Jakes when I'd shift.

Not nitpicking at all, check out my sig line!

What did you see on the road today?
highway replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In a way that is funny, but he had to because it is overhanging the end of the trailer. I personally think I would have loaded it in a different position, car carriers are notorious for being tail draggers even for a slight dip going in and out of parking lots etc, and I sure wouldn't want to have to explain why the rear bumper was gone! What I don't find funny is not only was this pic took while driving, it was done in a construction zone! -
Question on the Eliminator Coupe
highway replied to DrKerry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't know, but since at least to me it looks sort of like a brownish red, maybe Hull Red would work? I think I have some of it painted on a hull of a Titanic I started, I'll see if I can find it and give you an idea what it would look like if you want. You'd have to clear it with semi gloss for the door panels and gloss for the dash, but it might be close. I found that out Kerry. It sounds like we were thinking along the same lines, I started looking on Youtube for videos! -
Question on the Eliminator Coupe
highway replied to DrKerry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You're right Kerry, I'm not finding much either. The best I found was a clone, but it does have a couple decent interior shots of it. I don't know how true it is to the original, but here's the link if you'd like to check it out. http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/bons31coupe/vehicles/64033 -
Sunday Night workbench pics
highway replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I don't know about Tim, since it seems he and I were the only ones that posted projects, but mine is still in progress 6 years later thanks to life getting in the way. Mine has also dropped the bullrack off at the farm and has went to pulling a reefer. Thanks for digging up this old thread, I've been looking for a more durable paint for the roof and floor of my reefers, and did not remember that Tim had given me a good idea from the paint he used on his livestock trailer. I ended up using bumper chrome on it and the roof and floor of two of my reefer projects and been fighting fingerprints. -
Truck Kits You've Scored Recently
highway replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The three other Meng F350s that were set back for me when I brought their brother home a few weeks ago finally got reunited with their brother, and a few others followed me home too! -
good question - i think
highway replied to bubbaman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Simple answer, YES! Years ago the last time the carrier was reissued, somewhere around the 2005 time frame, I put it one the back of the Revell Pete. Also, the carrier is surprisingly strong, all but two of the cars on mine in the above pic are diecasts, only the front and rear cars on the upper deck are plastic. -
I went back to a hobby shop yesterday a friend introduced me to a few weeks ago to pick up the 3 Meng F350s I had the owner set back for me, and a few others yelled "TAKE ME, TAKE ME!!!" too!

I know what you mean there, especially since Cali DOT seem to be a different breed than anywhere else in the country. They definitely need to wear their neckties, if you have ever heard that joke!

Yep, it would probably earn you a warning point or two!! But hey, we're truckers, we can make sailors blush!!

And don't forget "Teddy Bear" for getting something in your eye too.....

There just isn't as much music celebrating the trucker as there used to be, but there are a few newer songs out there. I have a mix on my phone I listen to while I'm driving of both old and new, here are a couple of the new style that are my favorites. Of course, nothing will ever replace this great old song! And yes, the last one is a video I made if you didn't happen to notice in progress pics of my custom Ford project. The song is my personal favorite especially since the lyric "I've run freight out of Wheeling WV" not only mentions where I was born and raised in Wheeling, but yes, I've run freight out of Wheeling in my career too!
