Custom Dakota
stewart replied to stewart's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I have finished most of the body work. Still trying to figure out what to do with the hood. I could just do a cowl induction like they have but I would like to be able to do the air vents on the hood as well and am not sure how. Anyone have any ideas? I decided on the DOHC twin turbo V6 from the Dodge stealth and I ordered a dodge viper for the wheels. Body work done except for the hood. Made it into a single cab. Pretty easy conversion. I also think that I have found a great color combo!!! Going to start the painting soon. STewart -
Building a 6.7 cummins: Almost done

On its way to Ma's Resin for resin casting. Will keep you posted on the progress. STewart -
I recently found a picture of a dodge dakota custom that I really like so I am going to do a buildup of something along these lines. Well, I thought to myself, I will take a break from high-level detail and since the dakota is the Lindberg snap kit, I will just do some body mods and interior mods, relocate the holes for the metal axles, and have a lowered truck. Nice and easy. NOT!!! The chassis has details that stick out below the level of the lower valences on the truck so now I have to switch out the chassis. It will be a spare I had from the Revell Saleen speedster. Now, since I am doing the build full detail, I need to pick and engine. I don't want to do a hemi. Might to a V8 but I was thinking more along the lines of a V6 or Inline 6. Anyone have any ideas for a good, unusual engine I could use? Here is what I have going so far. Slung some putty last night for the body mods. Have the tonneau(however you spell it) cover on. Painting on the seats is real sloppy so I have to go back and repaint the black. These are the decals I am using. STewart

Ford F350 Super Duty 4X4
stewart replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Try rpphobby.com They have a models section although it is an R/C store with some really great prices and several sets of the best off-road tires I have ever seen for models. Also check out sorealconcepts.com. They sell the same wheels and tires. STewart PS. Oh, by the way Romell as an afterthought, I would like to say that that truck is okay but you really need to polish up on your detailing, painting, and building skills LOL You are amazing. Can't quite loving that truck even if it is a ford and not quite my style. STewart -

The Engine is Completely finished!!! Now I just have to finish making the instructions and I can send it to Alan for Resin Casting. Here are the pics. I put the engine together to take pics and then I am going to take it apart to send to alan. The tranny is from an F-350 dually, the pulleys are from the parts box as is the power steering reservoir and alternator. Everything else is scratch built. STewart -
Romell, that is incredible. I just recently got this kit off ebay and have been dreaming about what I am going to do with it. You contributed some very elegant thoughts. That is simply incredible. BTW, where did you get the other set of revell super single tires? I bought some Italeri super singles from KFS but I don't think they are wide enough and I don't really like the tread pattern. If I have to, I will have Alan at Ma's resin cast them but I would like to know first if there is a place I can get them. STewart

Wow Sergey. This is amazing work. I want to do a custom semi sometime in the near future and you have given me some great tips. Did you get my private Message about the "Taylor Wing?" STewart

stewart replied to stewart's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I have mostly completed the engine. All it needs now is the wiring to and from the oil filter and pump, a few more pulleys on the front, an oil pump, and a power steering pump. I have disassembled the engine to send to Alan at Ma's Resin for casting. Here are the pics. exhaust manifold on top, the mostly completed intake manifold on the bottom The engine front with alternator and bracket, and most of the pulleys. Building a 6.7 cummins: Almost done
stewart replied to stewart's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Working on the fuel injection system. I made the fuel log, the fuel pump, and filter. Now I just need to finish wiring them all and make the ECM. After that is done, all I have to do is to finish the turbo plumbing, the air intake, the intercooler, and the oil and power steering pumps. As soon as all that is complete, I am going to take it apart and send it to Alan from Ma's resin to be cast. If anyone is interested, contact me. STewart -

I am working on the turbo setup and have started the air intake. I made an oil filter and pirated an alternator from a Revell kit. I also finished the exhaust. STewart -

stewart replied to stewart's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I have completed the basic block and most of the engine front and pulleys. Now I am starting to work on the turbo, exhaust, and intake setup along with all the rest of the things. The engine front is just from sheet styrene, and the pulleys are from the parts box. I used Pro Tech photoetched bolt heads and a Detail master photo etch piece from their engine detail set for the oil fill cap. You can see the beginnings of an exhaust manifold in the previous and next pictures. STewart -
I am still waiting for alan to finish my wheels so I can finish it. I have to wait for the wheels because they will make it much easier to complete the final assembly. Once they get here, I need to place the engine and chassis in, install the axles and drive shafts, and complete the flat bed. Then that is it. Hopefully it will be as easy as it sounds STewart

I would be interested though I have an idea of my own on who to send it too. It depends on how much it costs. STewart -
I built a one-off inline six engine for my fast and furious 67 chevy truck (see my other thread) and was asked to build a cummins for another member of the forum so I decided to post a thread on the build. I started by asking another member for some dimensions (thank you scale auto style). I then cut several rectangles of the thickest plastic sheeting I have and laminated them together until I reached the desired thickness. for the oil pan flange, I used a thin sheet of styrene cut to size. I then laminated several thicker pieces on top of this to create the basic shape of the oil pan which will be shaped with a dremel tool and file. I finished all of the basic shaping on the block. It just needs the head and valve cover to be made and placed on. All the engraving I did with my dremel tool, file, and knife. STewart

I have completed the first of what I am hoping will be the complete series of american muscle cars in the fast and furious movies. However, it might end up being just my favorites (mostly mopars ) This is the 67 chevy. I scratchbuilt almost everything behind the cab including making my own tires from two kit ones, making the airbags, the frame, the propane tank, and the air compressor. For the cab, I started out using the AMT 72 chevy truck kit and bought a 67 grille from modelhaus. However, the grille did not fit and would have required extensive modifications to fit. I therefore put off doing it. Then, as I was browsing the internet, I found a model on a forum of a 67 chevy. The builder had bought the truck kit from RMR resin. So I was able to get the cab. After filing off the trim and some other misc. cleanup, I painted it in Testors flaming orange. The interior has a bench seat and I had to make a whole knew transmission tunnel for the fuller 13-speed of a semi truck. It has a full size truck shifter and a truck steering wheel. The engine is a one-off inline 6 twin turbo intercooled diesel. I made it myself from scratch. I am now in the process of making an actual dimensions 6.7 cummins for a friend.

Fast and Furious Trucks
stewart replied to stewart's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I am glad you like it. I am not having much time to work on them these days as I just got my first 40 hour a week job working at a lumber yard. I'll see how soon I finish them. -

Actually, the two bodies don't fit exceptionally well together, it is just that I did not want to buy another of the AMT pickups and I already had the body for this one so I made it work. STewart -
That is a very nice chevelle Romell. I like it alot. As usual, very good work.

Here are some pics of the interior. Nitrous bottles are plumbed but I still have to paint the fire extinguisher, the steering wheel and column, and add the gauges. Engine
