  1. Ray, i have decided to go with a chevy version.. i have been un happy with my attempts to make the GMC grill, and i gave it two shots, so i'm down to one grill, so i better stop for now.... i have some more updated pics to show today, been working on completing the body, then i'll move on to the inside.. here's a pic, i have more in my fotki album.. thanks for looking, dave.
  2. Thanks for the nice comment's guy's. I have more updates tonight..i began to polish out the truck, I'm using MEGUIARS cleaner wax, really good stuff, i did not use any clear coat on this truck. I also began to add decals to the drivers side. I'm only doing one side at a time, as i'm cutting each letter out one by one from a chimnyville decal sheet for the st. louis f.d., so time consumming to say the least..Foil work still to come. thanks again for looking, dave.
  3. Thank you for the nice comments.. i have some updates today(3/23).. color coats have gone on, the temps outside were good enough to get her done before the rain hit..thanks for looking, dave.
  4. Funny you should bring this up, i just bought a new one from wal-mart last week for 5 bucks. This one is a hard plastic, light blue, and is made to be cut on.. It is made buy JUNE TAYLOR. Look in the sewing section at you local wal-mart, or like you said, jo-ann fabric's, they will for sure have 'em.
  5. This is my next project to fall onto my table. Years ago there was a fire app. company from Rockville N.Y. called APPROVED, they made these big molded looking bodies and mated them to just about any commercial truck cab, Now my reference pic is a GMC, but i have a Chevy cab, BUT , i may try to alter the CHEVY grill into a GMC (by altering it into a quad headlight grill, and using the GMC logo from the ASTRO kit.) progress is coming along ok so far, but much more work is yet to come. here are a few pics, if interested , i have more in my fotki album.. thanks for looking, dave.
  6. YES, that is sweet.. the color is awsome.
  7. that looks great. how long have you been working on it?? your efforts seem to have paid off.
  8. THANK YOU for the nice comments . i have to agree about the blue color, it really grabs your eye for some reason, maybe because it is different?? thanks again, dave.
  9. well here is my take on a late 60's rescue truck, that has been well took care of, and had some modern updates along the way. more constuction and finished pics in my fotki album. thanks for looking, dave.
  10. this is my newest project.. took the AMT stake bed truck, and converting it into a '60's era rescue truck. the rescue box is scratchbuilt, along with the front bumper. i flaired in tunnel lights on the cab roof, i made those from used ink pens.. paint is dupli-color dark blue, and classic white from wal-mart..i worked on the stripes last night for about an hour, the white went on first, then the gold.. i still have lots of foil work yet to do, and some more work to the inside of the cab.. thanks for looking, dave. P.S., i have build up pics in my fotki album, if youwant to see more..
  11. Hello everyone, sorry i have not been around much , but things have been busy.. i have found time to get a model done, the first this year... i took the tojo hilux and turned it into a brush rig.. i have an album of construction and completed pics in my fotki album if you want to have a look. here's a peek... thanks for looking, dave.
  12. i dont know if your supposed to reply to your own thread or not< but here goes.. i've got a few updates to post today.. i've been working on getting the front fenders the correct shape, and i'm getting real close.. the hood is coming into shape as well, i still need to add the center crease, but it's coming....the rear portion of the car has began to get some putty as well, i will rough in the drivers side, and most of the deck lid, then work on getting it 'right', BEFORE i do the other side, i feel this way i can gage the 'look' better if i focus on one side at a time??? we'll see... anyway, i've added somw newer pics into my fotki link, so check 'em out.. thanks for looking, dave.
  13. thanks for the comments mrobsessive, the first thing i did after i cut the car in half was add piece's of .040 styrene on the inside of the car, crossway's, the layed a piece of .020 across the top (what you see in the pics), so it's below the original surface of the kit, and i'm thinking the bondo fill in will sand nice and flush...
  14. in my own feable way, i began a project the other day to make a '73 DODGE POLARA..as all of you know, this car was never in kit form.. so with the aid of a fellow modeler in FRANCE, i have begun my terror on yet another kit... THE KIT'S, i am using an AMT JOKER / GOON DODGE MONACO, plus pieces from an AMT '70 IMPLALA...(yes i said impala )... THE OBJECTIVE, to back date the monaco, modifying a few body parts, like to flatten the hood, make a new grill, re-shape the rear window, lengthen the body, just to name a few.. i will be cutting up the front grill from the IMPALA kit, to achive the headlights and bumper for the POLARA... THE PROGRESS, so far i have had to cut the entire car in half, add a 1/4 inch to it's width, and glue it back together.. that part was not to hard.. my next step was to start on the headlamps and grill..this has had one layer of bondo applied over some basic styrene shapes, i'll let this dry very well, then start sanding, re-bondo ETC ETC ETC.. until i'm happy with my results.. the hood is also ready for some bondo, to flatten it out, once i have a nice flat hood, i can add the center peak with some styrene, and sand into shape...once all that is done, i'll move on to the other area's of the car... this will be a mid to long term project, that i may work on for 6 months.. but with time, lots of bondo and sandpaper, i hope to make this car reality.. here is a pic, and i have a few more in my fotki album...PLEASE REMEMBER, this is in it's primal stages, so lots of work yet to do....
  15. here's the best look at the movie car i could find...so i'm not TOO far off.. the lady in the blue top is sheriff pusser's daughter, at an interview for the start of the annual buford pusser golf outing.
  16. thanks tintman... i've got a few updates of this build today, i've been slowly working on the engine, and i would say it's about 70% done, here's a pic and the decals now i know that the decals are different than what's on the movie car, but i had to go with what i had, or could get my hands on.. the fender decals are made from 3 different sheets from chimneyville, took me about 2 hours just to do this side.. but like i said in my first post, this will not be a replica, just a somewhat true to life build..... thanks for looking, dave. P.S., i have more pics in my fotki album if anyone want's to look.
  17. WOW, very nice looking as a single axel dump.. you should be proud of that.
  18. a build from the original movie 'walking tall'.. the cars in the movie were 1973 dodge polara's, but since i dont have one of those, i'll be using the 1970 ford from hobby heaven.. sheriff pusser was in office from 1964 till 1970, so this car would not be totaly out of the realm of posability. i have an album going in my fotki site if you want to have a look.. thanks for looking, dave.
  19. been away for awhile, so i decided to start my building season with yet another heavy rescue truck.. this time using the GMC ASTRO cab from AMT, and once again scratchbuilding the rear section.. i've got an album going on in my fotki site, but here's a few pics.. thanks for looking, dave.
  20. WELCOME engine32, do you also build fire app?? i'd like to see 'em if you have any... thats about all i build anymore, look at my fotki site to see some... hope you get the camera back soon, dave.
  21. wow, looks like a bunch of great cars, was there any fire related stuff??
  22. thanks guy's, i was sure surprised that my '60 chevy fire truck took first place...that was my first ever first place, so i was happy as heck.. i thought one of the new ALF'S would draw some photo op's, but they did'nt..TIM, would you happen to know why no-one fronm this mag showed up to take pics??
  23. i was lucky enough to find two of the re-issued '70 ford police cars at the cincy show, and i knew i just had to build one for my dad..he is a retired policeman, and here he is in front of his 'new' 70 ford.. i started on the light bar set up, it's not perfect, but it's close.. also started an album in my fotki.. thanks for looking, dave.
  24. i just got back from the show, posted pics up in my fotki site of all the emergency vehicles, and a few others... great time and met alot of great people...
