I must add my thoughts here. I have been dabbling with this technology since the late 90's and can say with some certainty, it is not close to being a real home hobbyist friendly reality. Yes the commercial machines are very expensive, media for them is not cheap either. But as a hobbyist tool, not even close. The commercial machines are limited in the work envelope size in all axis, but that is not an issue for scale modelers as even the largest parts, can be multiple part assemblies. Currently available machines from those aforementioned manufacturers rely on ABS filament, the type used in lawn trimmers, very hard to glue together. They are very slow and must be very rigid to operate successfully. A recent meeting of my CNC S.I.G. one was demonstrated and took approximately thirty min. to make a guitar pick. The part resolution was not what a modeler would want. Filling with putty would be extensive. What the 3d services use is powdered deposition technology, or, stereo lithography in a liquid medium fused by laser at .003 per pass. I have handled parts made in a printable metal called, Zmac, that were used in prototypical applications right after being printed. That machine was over $195K. I have priced out some simple Mack wheel rims and one copy cost $30.00, ten cast duellies from a resin caster are $54.00. So in closing stick to what levels you are currently enjoying and keep dreaming of a future where kids bang out scale models at the diner table over snacks Mr Jetson!

I have an old model of Revell's Challenger 1 LSR multi motored car. I was wondering if any modeler has done a different take on it. I mean it is a nice vintage salt flat shape. Has anyone put a single jet engine in one, or say, several inline engines?. I'd like to see some images of those models so I can get some inspirational ideas. Anybody have any comments or pics of ideas for one?.

I'd like to get a quote for two frets of tire tread profiles in brass. I haven't yet made the drawings but I need to know where to find a service for model hobbiests. Anyone have any information about this?.

I had trashed it after I cut out the original.I was molding a truck part, the plate used to lock on the trailer to the tractor.

Some thoughts added to my last post. I had never de chromed parts with a solvent before. I just painted over the chrome. I never realized the amount of detail covered up by the process. I have been maticulously going over my parts pack Allison engine since I dropped it in LA Awesome, man there's a lot of stuff under the clear coat, just gads of stuff. I will do this from now on.

Airbrush Compressor Question
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well guys I got me an Iwata clone. One that has, a tank and a case, like the Iwata one but without the hefty cost. I don't do a lot of airbrushing but, it'll be nice not to have to go down into a freezing garage this winter. -
I'd like to comment here. My biggest gripe with model manufacturers is they always miss the mark when it comes to wheel tire issues. I want to add ,while I like the images and especialy the last three, I favor the classic 5, 6, spoke design. I wish that they were included in kits along with tires that fit the rim and model real tire options. Just my two cents.

Airbrush Compressor Question
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Re this. How about I get a small low noise compressor and feed it into my 5 gal. tank as a buffer for pulsing? Comment on this, I'm ready to pop for one today or tomorrow. -
Airbrush Compressor Question
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
O.K. I think I'll get one of those for nail and cake art and will add a small reserve tank, a 12" length of 4" dia. PVC stopped at both ends to guard againted the pulseing. I also have a 5 gal.Craftsman tank I sometimes used as an air source but it empties quickly. Comments -
Airbrush Compressor Question
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yaa, What about on of those ones for doing finger nails? They are really low priced but usually rated in litres per minute. How can I tell if it's enough to shot stuff like Tamiya. Valajio, or AK acrylics. Anyways what do you guys think of those finger nail rigs? -
Airbrush Compressor Question

Hey thanks just what I needed. -
Not sure if this is in the right place ,so. I have a Badger Crescendo airbrush, how much air do I need for good quality finishes using acrylics only? I have seen some nice compressors for cheap but I'm not sure what I really need for my gun. Some I've seen have, .7 /. 8 cfm's and, 20 / 25 Ltr's/min.Comment welcome.

Well it worked at 90%. I left two sprues overnight, from the AMT Parts Pack, Custom and Competion set, the Allison Engine and almost all of it was gone. I'm a little bummed that all of it wasn't off, but beggers can't be choosers. I even put it in full strength Chlorox Bleach for three more hours and it remained the same. That pesky clear coat is stuborn some remains. So I guess it does works and I am happy with the results.

Ah, right in front of my nose, just where I thought it wpould be. Thanks

So, how does one search for stuff on that site. I have found that it can be a fabulous source for information and stuff. I did not see a search box. Do I have the wrong impression of Fotki?

What Happened to my Post?
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks I did and I may have not done it correctly. How about an old nylon anklet? -
A while ago I got this really nice small spray booth and this thread piqued my interest. I'm really terrible with math so on the subject of venting I had an idea. I too will vent out a window on the front of my home and have vinyl sidding, and do not want to stain it either. My systems has an air flow of 3 cu.m / min. What if I put some fish tank filter medium in the vent duct and used a boster cage fan to add to the vent speed of clean filtered exhaust. Comments and input will be apprecieated.
