What size wheels and tires for Lowboy trailers? Why the use of single rear tires to replace duel rears?. The type of rear end used in the AMT model lowboy editions?. Common tire data for multi- tired Boom Cranes, such as Groove, or P&H?.

Where did you get the corrugated duct material?
-
When one would like to scratch build a master for casting an engine block and heads and the rest, how do you do it? Where do you get the dimensions to accurately make the scale masters from ? Do you just wing it, or take the measurements from another model engine?. Just curious. Also when a master for a tire is made such as, say a MT fatty, how accurate are the treads and side wall profiles, and how were they derived? Most of those dimensions are proprietary as far as I can tell, I've searched often for that data and come up empty. The answer may be in front of me but I can't see it. It's whats stopping me from mastering my own tire molds. Any insight will be appreciated.

I found it. While searching for scale tires I hit upon a site called, Offroad Model Tire Sizes Database, and lo and behold, those tires I was looking for are, or were, made by none other then Al Rabb at Ma's. I must contact him for more information anybody got a good link to his email? Other emails I've sent to a few other resin guys have still not been answered!!

Yes, that truck site has some nice tires and wheels, and is helpfull. But, I mean that why can't we get models of construction equipment, beyond what has already been offered. IMHO There have been too many re issues of Chevy's and Fords lately. How about some new blood?
-
Does no one know even if they were ever offered? I'm looking for tires and rims for construction vehicles in 1/25th scale. One of the most neglected subjects of all modeldom. Why not construction vehicles? They are big, meaty ,models with lots of big brawny details. How about some nice boom cranes or some nice latice crawlers or drag shovels. IMHO.

Out Of Production Resin & Aftermarket Products
raildogg replied to Casey's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Look all personalities asaide, the question posed is, '' where are the molds, and, why not give them up for casting again''. That's all we need to know. These are some of the most iconic kits in all of modeldom, so, which of the resin casters now in business will be willing to make them availible again, if they were able to get their hands on the molds?. In closing, I pose the opinion that, with all that's missing and needed in the industry, something positive should come from this. I only hope that some willing to do something about it will do something about it! Just my singular opinoin. No flame, rant or inappropritness intented. Thank You Guys. -
Why aren't all model kits awesome?
raildogg replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am hesitant to add my thoughts but, here goes. I do agree, many a kit owes it's beings to old molds done with, old technology. The fact that they still sell in great quantities eludes me. Yes Tamiya and Aoshima are superior but they are pricey. Moebius is ahead of the pack with their offerings and may get a bigger share, but the limited selection is the downside. Unless the major makers start retooling for a more savy group, those kids that they marketed to back in the day are grown up now and want more, we can still expect the same old kits being, as bad as they ever were, to continue to hit the shelves. Todays kids have gaming consoles and don't know how to work their hands, so why buy something that you have to put together, and then not play with it. Just my two cents. -
How big is your work table ?
raildogg replied to Fender's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To echo many, not enough. I have one table 3' x 5', two others 2' x 4'. The big one has three tier shelving atatched with space for, "not even enough stuff". I have future plans for a 30" wide wrap around the room bench with tiered shelving and many pigeon holes for more stuff. In a year long effort to down size my main abode. Two empty nesters don't need 3500 sq. ft. anymore. -
Not a rant! Just hoping for some contact through the forum. Chill out Buba!!

Yep, still nothing. I guess he doesn't want to do business.

Please do not missunderstand me here this is not a flame or anything like that. If anyone knows how to get his attention plaese forward my information. I want to know when the trailer air ride suspension items will agian be availible. Again, I do sincerely apologize for any implied improprieties in this post, Thank You. Just trying to get throutgh, that's all.

Tire Blueprint Wanted
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for all the replies. Yea there are many out there and mostly it is information protected. I'd like to see some tires in resin for heavy construction type vehicles. There are almost no models of these in 1/25th scale, and what is availible are few. So, to expand on this, I enjoy these types of vehicles and must scratch build to satisfy my interests. For me, I'd like to see a wheeled boom crane similar to ones made by Terex and Grove. I would preffer that to another Mustang or 32' ford, but I digress. Tires for construction equipment and tractoers are missing from the resin world, those are my wants. -
O.K. I need to find a measured blueprint of a tire. I know there are hundreds of 'em. I need a generic tire carcass blueprint. I want to make a master of one and cast my own in resin. Can anybody lead me to a link or source for a measured drawing of one. I want it to be accurate at least. HELP!!!!

Lowboy Suspension Questions
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, low boy trailers thet haul CAT's and Case heavy construction stuff. It must a popular scratch builing item everybody is "out of stock" on many of the parts. I shake too much to scratch them myself. -
Hey I'm looking for a link I've seen somewhere here about tires. Wait now I know it's getting weather worn. I saw a link to a provider of tires and wheels who had heavy equipment tires does anyone remember seeing that one. I sure hope so, lately every thing I get the bug to scaratch build has tires that almost no one makes, then, when I see one I forget it. Bummer what!

Lowboy Suspension Questions
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well I emailed Saurkraut but I got no answer as of yet. Still looking everything out of stock though -
I chose that material hoping to polish it up , but no biggy, plan to try out Alcad(sp) anyways. Yeas there is some weight to it but no so much as it will over power gluing. I had two printed, a LH and RH units, at about $32.00 for both, pricey ,yes, but next time I'll go with FUD. Live and learn!

Just got my new big rig cleaners from Shapeways. I designed them in Solidworks coverted to an stl. file uploaded and chose my material, polished aluminide, and viola I can finish my KW900 wrecker. Enjoy

You know that somewhere here is a post of the ultimate paint stripping list. I think we need the same for wheels and tires. Several of the sources mentioned in other posts have the stuff most of us crave, so why don't we make a list of sources and pin it as sticky so we , and new members, can access it when we need to. What do you say guys?? Oh, by the way, I stumbled onto a seller on evil bay that has some cool stuff in multiple scale at reasonable prices, but I can't remember it, so, I'll have to add it later when we make that source list.

Hope I'm in the right area. What kinds of suspensions am I looking at, air ride, walking beam, leaf spring types. What parts should I be looking for? Also looking to build a Schnauble Special Duty type trailer all the information seems to piont to air ride. What is availible for air ride parts?

Want To know these things
raildogg replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey man no problem. Used that as a euphemism in the context of modern verbal parlance. I have tried to model in 3d a tire with the treads on it and have come up wanting, so I was hoping for help with stats and technical stuff. It's really hard to tell to the casual observer. WOW, LOL, LOL -
Yep, those are them! I find the kit supplied item lacking and DIY wire wound lacking. But, looking at these examples I may have made a huge mis cue. Are they always made in sections like this. I mean round tube and flexible connection pieces? This could be a game changer. The kit supplied pieces I have for the KW900 Wrecker were impeded by a mis alighnment, and something on the firewall, and, in trying to fix it I ruined them. So, if this is the common arrangment I have the skills and the parts to fix it. I'll tyr to upload a pic later and show what I am dealing with. Thanks guys this is great news.
