  1. Thanks, I have been watching out for that. From the pictures that I have seen, the tires stick way out on the real ones. I have the outsides of the tires on mine at 101" wide, so they will stick out way past the fenders, but will still be legal. Here is a picture of one that is very close to the trucks that I am modeling this after: Here's a quick mock-up after the first coat of paint on the outside of cab and hood:
  2. Thanks guys! This is my first attempt at making a steerable axle and weathering tires. I'm going to attempt some weathering throughout to make it look like a well used working dump truck.
  3. Well I bought a box of parts off of ebay a while ago, and in it was a Mack R model cab, hood, engine, and most of a chassis. So I have decided to turn it into more than a pile of parts. When I was growing up there was a dump truck company across the street from my house with some really tough looking R model Macks. So I figured I would build a replica of one of those. Here is what I started with: Here is where I am now:
  4. Yup, Jamie definitely makes some top notch stuff!
  5. There's not a whole lot more than what you have listed. Luckily most modern trailers are pretty easy to scratch build, or to build by modifying existing kits. I would much rather scratch build a modern trailer than a modern truck.
  6. Thanks a lot! Thanks! It is completely scratch built. I was going to base it off of an existing kit, but it was going to take so much work to modify anything out there, I figured I would just start from scratch.
  7. Thanks! Yeah, I have a plexiglass cover for it, I just left it off for the pictures.
  8. I sell some, what are you looking for? There are a few others I can direct you to with very nice rims as well.
  9. That is actually how I made this 379: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/104045-peterbilt-379-and-timpte-super-hopper/ I modified a 359 snap kit hood and cab. The cab width is not quite right for a real 379, but it looks good on a shelf.
  10. If you are looking to make a "cheater" 127" 379 by using the 359, then you will have to stretch the hood by 8 scale inches, fill in the cutout for the intake tubing, file off the ribs on top and replace it with one center rib (with rivet detail if you choose), file the rib off the sides of the hood (and add new rivet detail if you choose), file off the step on the back side of the fenders, fill the holes for the turn signals on the fenders, and use appropriate headlights. There are a few more tweaks I am sure, but this will give you a pretty convincing look. If you file the windshield opening in the cab so that the corners are less round and thin out the center support you can make the 359 cab look a bit more like a 379 as well. There will still be dimensional differences, but it looks good regardless.
  11. Thanks Tom! I am hoping that this one will make it to Fulton this year. It will depend on how quickly the guy that it was built for wants it on his shelf. Thanks! I now have made a lot of the parts that were mastered for this build available through my website: http://kdhumphr.wix.com/double-take-replicashttp://kdhumphr.wix.com/double-take-replicas
  12. Thanks! For the rims and tires, I drew them in 3D cad and had them 3D printed. Then I made molds and cast each rim in resin and each tire in urethane rubber. The tread pattern is different for the different tires. I made steer tires, drive tires, and trailer tires. For the rims I made oval hole rims for the Pete, and round hole alcoas for the trailer.
  13. Well, I am calling this one close enough to done. It has been over a year in the making. The only kit parts I used were the frame, axles, and cab from a Revell 359 snap kit. Each of those were heavily modified as well. Everything else was scratch built including the rims and tires.
  14. Thanks guys! I got a lot more done tonight. For the tarp, I used a heavy duty paper towel that I painted red. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
  15. Thanks! For the sides I used Evergreen styrene sheet with grooves in it. I then glued styrene rod into each groove to create the ribs. It was a bit tedious, but it worked out alright in the end.
  16. Robert has the right to know what was going on. Travis' own words were that people were on a "witch hunt" for him. I have no problem with Travis, I have helped him out a few times in the past. Hopefully he gets these lowboys sorted out and shipped soon. I don't think he is out to rip anyone off at all, I think he just got backed up a bit.
  17. Not at all. Of course I agree that the matter should always be taken up in private first. To go straight to the public without contacting me first is wrong in my opinion, but that is not the case here. I would expect someone to contact me privately first, but if I don't respond for weeks I would expect nothing less than someone to start asking around publicly. Sometimes others can help explain what is going on, or can help find a better way of contacting someone. I had this problem before when a seller had changed his email address and I did not know the new one. Robert didn't say anything negative, he was simply asking if anyone had any updates.
  18. I don't think that asking if others have heard anything in a public forum is a big deal. Especially when you paid for something months ago and have not gotten a response to emails for a few weeks.
  19. Thanks guys! Mark, those are actually plastic protectors on the side to keep the tarp roll from scratching up the side of the trailer. I used .08" square styrene rod and filed it into shape for those. Today I worked on the tarp a bit:
  20. Got a little more done. I still have to make the axles, rims, tires, lights, and tarp.
  21. There has been a big thing going on in a facebook group the last few days about this. This trailer was first advertised on there and a lot of people ordered one. The guy casting them kept saying they would ship the beginning of April, then he ran into some casting problems and said first week of May. Then he said that he would have them at NNL for people to pick up, but something came up last minute and he didn't make it there. About 2 weeks ago he advertised that he had 4 extra trailers for sale that would ship immediately. A few days ago someone called him out for not answering messages and it became a big thing. So it sounds like you aren't the only one that is left wondering when they will get theirs. I hope everyone gets theirs soon.
  22. I just checked and it seems to be working for me. Is there a particular page on there that you can't access? Or can you not get to anything on there?
