  1. What would you guys consider a reasonable price for something like this? I'm worried particularly about the tires because the upfront cost for me is high and the material cost for urethane rubber is pretty high. It's not worth it if nobody will buy them for what I would have to price them at.
  2. I have been using the Line-O red and white reflective tape for scale models. It looks great and is super quick to apply. Probably costs more than your way though.
  3. Looking for some feedback. Is there any interest in more accurate 1/16 scale rims cast in resin? If so, what would you want, 2-hole, 5-hole, 10-hole alcoa? On that note, is there any interest in 1/16 tires as well?
  4. Thanks Clayton! I wanted to update everyone, I have been in the process of remastering all of my rims to make them fit even better with kit tires. My new 24.5" 2-hole rims, 1/24 scale 2-hole rims, 22.5" 2-hole rims, and 22.5" 5-hole rims are in stock now!
  5. That looks amazing! You may have mentioned it somewhere, but I didn't see it, what did that backhoe start as? I'm guessing it is supposed to be a different scale, but it looks pretty darn close to 1/25 to me.
  6. Here is what I have, not the clearest pictures. The first picture is with the door frame built with the "tile" pattern styrene glued in place. I glued .020" thick strips of styrene across the where the hinges go to imitate the "straps" that Utility uses where their hinges mount. I also made a vent door out of styrene. I then covered the whole thing in bare metal foil and painted the straps across the back gray. I made hinges using .010" thick styrene strip and styrene rod, then painted them silver. At this point I added my decals. I then made the door cams and handles using styrene rod and thin strips for the mounting points. For the handles I filed some .080"x.080" square rod into the shape I wanted.
  7. I got mine a few days ago. They said it wouldn't even be in stock until early January when I ordered it, then it showed up on my doorstep January 2nd.
  8. That is amazing! You have skills I could only every dream of having.
  9. If you can't find one then it wouldn't bee too hard to scratch build one or make one from kit parts. I'm sure between the members on here you could scrape together the parts needed to make one.
  10. Carrier Units are now available: http://kdhumphr.wix.com/double-take-replicas#!modern-reefer-unit/c4mh
  11. Man that thing looks long! Like Clayton mentioned, I have super single tires and rims to go with them in stock: http://kdhumphr.wix.com/double-take-replicas#!super-single-tire/cox2
  12. Calling this one done. Started as a Moebeus Great Dane. I scratch built the rear doors, landing gear, and Carrier unit. Rims and tires are the ones I sell on my website.
  13. I want to congratulate Marc Berube for being the winner of our first free giveaway! He has won a free complete wheel set from Double Take Replicas. Thanks for the support everyone and stay tuned for more free giveaways!
  14. I'm hoping to build a Freightliner Columbia or Century to go with it. Maybe a Cascadia if I can figure out how to make the shape of the cab look right.
  15. Got an early start today and made a lot of progress on the front end. I still need to finish a few marker lights, but it's almost done!
  16. Thanks. I don't have the reefer on the front yet. I'm still working the front end to make it more like a Utility. I'm hoping to have it done in the next day or two. I still have to finish the front and get all the marker lights on.
  17. It's starting to look like a trailer! I scratch built the landing gear to be more Utility-ish. I also added some light weathering to make it look like it has just finished pulling it's first couple loads. I still have to finish up the details on the front and add all of the marker lights.
  18. I use their 7/8" O-scale rivets on my 1/25 scale big rig builds and they look great.
  19. The hood and cab are both 359 snap-kit pieces that I tried to modify into 379 pieces.
  20. Made a little more progress on this build after letting it sit for a while:
  21. My post from the other day got lost when the site crashed, so here is the update again. Finished the wheels and tires:
  22. Great looking build Jeff, especially in person. It was great to meet you at the Fulton show as well, now I can put a face with the name.
  23. I've seen Jamie Groeneweg's models before, he does amazing work. Especially considering that this picture is a 1/87 scale model! Making the quilted doors from scratch is not too difficult. I use styrene sheet that has a tile pattern on it, then cut it at a 45 degree angle so that the pattern will look like diamonds. Once I finish the doors I use bare metal foil and scrub it with a toothbrush to get the foil down in all of the spaces between the diamonds. I did the same thing on my great dane and it worked out really nicely:
  24. Yup, they levelled the old carrier plant and turned it into a park a couple years ago. Everything is made outside of the US nowadays. I got a little more work done today, made a set of rear doors for it. I went with some diamond pleating, and of course the signature Utility off-center door cams.
