  2. i made one. got a sheet of 16 ga. galvanized from the big box store and contact cemented it to a sheet of birch cabinet plywood. grabbed some cabinet door magnets, and can hold a bunch of stuff square, paralell, & perpendicular. whenever i have extra pieces of angle or bar, even framing clips for house construction, i stick them in a cigar box for a possible jig up. it's the same thing that is sold for the purpose, just made in the shop. some good stuff here: http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/how_to_articles_for_model_builders/tools/magnetic_building_board/steel_building_boards.htm http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/model_building_tools/jigs_and_fixtures.htm
  3. never seen the plug wires run under the heads. it's a nice detail and lets the manifold & carburetion stand out. Q: is this prototypical or "modeler's license"? thanks
  4. certainly well worth the hard work!
  5. cutting blade or back of blade? i've never tried it.
  6. please tell those Webers are larger than 1/25 scale. if not, well, that's a little "Obsessive"!
  7. no; to build better models
  8. didn't that kit have the bar for the back seat, maybe a telephone or reel to reel tape recorder, and the little flags for the front fenders?
  9. it was objective.
  10. before Revell & Pactra, there was the annual Fisher Body Contest. all fledgling auto designers sought the prize to catapult their career. http://history.gmheritagecenter.com/wiki/index.php/The_Fisher_Body_Craftsman's_Guild_Model_Car_Competition
  11. what are you trying to drill? don't forget rate of feed and tool speed go hand in hand.
  12. how did this ever end up? or is it in the "rotation"?
  13. really tiny. maybe .010" or .2540 mm less than 1/64"
  14. so they're not all rusty. some are dusty!
  15. better than spending it in the local watering hole
  16. a strip of brass makes a good file cleaner
  17. how will you gap them points?
  18. you're taking this well. find peace in your memories.
  19. i think the dipstick (wherever it is on this mill) gives a big bang for the effort required. i should really do that more ...
  20. nice change of pace
  21. it's the learning curve. quite often folks try too much too soon and get discouraged. i will build as far as my skills & automotive knowledge allows, get stymied, and put everything in a box for a while. six months. a year. or two. when i catch up, i get on it again. hobbies are to relieve stress, not generate more. if you're serious about this type of car, there's a couple of special interst groups: http://fredsresinworkshop.com/forum/search.php?search_id=active_topics&sid=e49711e176fd8372805708bf1d01a82a http://z8.invisionfree.com/Scale_Racing_Lobby/index.php?act=idx
  22. i always "de-chrome", but it's distracting to see a chromed assembly with mold marks. i understand the conundrum, but the camera tells all.
