  1. go here: http://straightlinemodeler.org/tipseng.html about halfway down - Gilmer belts
  2. exactly. back good; front not as nice. i particularly notice this with '34 Ford style wire wheels. often i don't keep kit tires & wheels together, and when it's time to mount them, it's a bit of a chore to find a good match. i assumed it was just me, but some of the "under glass" models suffer the same malady. perhaps i could use my dremel moto-lathe to thin down the wheel rim?
  3. general question: is this why i find some wheels sit proud of the tires? i'm trying to jamb wheels that are oversized into too small rubber?
  4. go to post #3 here http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=66247&hl= i always wanted to make one, but since doing so, i've never used it. and now, because the moto-tool is clamped in the jig, i don't use it anymore, either!
  5. most "under glass" threads have engine shots, too. maybe the Prius thread would have motors?
  6. thanks for the information. "overthinking" may be the key! this chart has a bunch of sizes, inches & millimeters, and specifically notes 'bare wire diameter'. http://www.bulkwire.com/wiregauge.asp
  7. harumph! so if i have a "full scale" decimal, how do i get back to scale inches (let's use 1/24th)? i only ask here because i think it's something which others may benefit, and not use it so often it's at the forefront of their thinking. i know i don't. thanks
  8. this chart indicates #35 wire is .0056" diameter. someone who is good at mathamagics - please check logic! http://www.coasteltools.com/tech_wire_gauge_conversion_chart.htm i deleted the arithmetic so no one else would get balled up! Drew - nice rails. sorry, got lost in the numbers........
  9. Tamiya & Hasagawa kits are well detailed and extremely well engineered. if you like the subject matter, you will not be disappointed.
  10. not much help .... but often a narrow field of interest, sets you up for a lot of scratchbuilding. if prototypical accuracy is not paramount, some of the military model resources may have bug & kublewagen parts. unfortunately 1/35 is their scale of choice. warned you i wouldn't be much help! http://www.amazon.com/Hasegawa-24-Volkswagen-Micro-Bus/dp/B001BQR4U6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361840430&sr=8-1&keywords=vw+bus+model http://www.etamiya.com/shop/search-p-5076.html http://www.etamiya.com/shop/search-p-5097.html http://www.etamiya.com/shop/tamiya-24008-volkswagen-golf-racing-group-rabbit-c408-model-p-90053635.html http://www.etamiya.com/shop/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=volkswagen http://www.ebay.com/sch/Models-Kits-/1188/i.html?_nkw=volkswagen+bus http://www.modelcars.com/revell-1964-volkswagen-t1-samba-bus.html
  11. good looking old school
  12. why do you think it's "bad" to point out something which is generally frowned upon?
  13. Ok, so what is crossposting? Please explain if I done something wrong, new here. Anyway, I went through every one of them old models and found nothing. Thanks.
  14. keeps getting better! rather than ask a bazillion questions, i'm just going to "stay tuned"
  15. Kart is great. is the trailer from revell's midget kit or built up? http://public.fotki.com/crstan/replican-and-miniat/replicas-and-miniat/100-3009-jpg.html
  16. anybody figure out how to make Rajah terminals? (1/24 - 5 scale) i believe there's a bit of copper showing. http://www.westwoodproducts.com/images/E31.gif
  17. crossposting is frowned upon, but if you read through this thread, http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56542&hl= , there may be some leads that could help.
  18. wire. for anything. get it anywhere except packaged for model builders.
  19. no seat belts? there's only one steering wheel between them to hang on to! makes the Bug look lake a Nader design. great job on the build.
  20. styrene - and if the pattern isn't available in sheets, start with smooth and apply shapes. http://www.plastruct.com/Home.html http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/
  21. there are 2 vertical raised seams (either side of back window). should they be left or smoothed?
  22. http://fordbarn.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=839a1c0c7c827e92297c861e2a9b2086&f=2 and of course: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=5
  23. could be just a general observation. seen it happen a hunderd times.
