  4. did you grind out the back of the grill to get the "see through"?
  5. can we get this & the '34 tow truck more bigger? they both look good from here!
  6. yeah; how we get that bigga?
  7. at the risk of sounding glib, "from everywhere" is my initial response. it depends on what you're modeling. if it's a 1/12 scale funny car, you won't take the same poetic license as if you were modeling a 1/25 scale down and out wrecker. try not to fall into the 'checkbook modeler' syndrome and attempt to buy your way to great models. yes; there's a lot of great cottage industires cranking out gotta-have goodies - i have a shoebox of them waiting my attention now - but that's not what modeling is all about. there's graphic waiting to be used wherever you look. some bought for the forefront, but you can also just get some bright bits of paper and weather them down and use them for the background scenes. here's a little of everything: http://www.scalemodelingbychris.com/signs.htm http://www.timeandseasons.com/home.cfm?CFID=46307&CFTOKEN=16738BA6-3460-4482-A9056E72EE603763 http://www.unicornmodels.be/shop/index.php?cPath=71 http://bestmodelcarparts.com/products.php?view=productPage&product=142&category=47# http://www.google.co.nz/search?rlz=1T4HPAA_enNZ236NZ236&q=oilzum%20sign&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=763&bih=370&tbm=isch http://public.fotki.com/ChuckDoan/model_projects/untitled-half-inch-/ http://seltd.net/cgi-bin/ez-catalog/cat_display.cgi?account=X344897;search=19;search=Grafix;limit=category;v=2.0 http://www.nexusboard.net/showthread.php?siteid=7293&threadid=1224 http://www.vectorcut.com/accessoriesHO.htm http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28158 http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_related_reference/old_ads/reference_-_old_ads-20/ http://books.google.com/books?id=49gDAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=popular+mechanics&hl=en&sa=X&ei=-d1IUbK7N7Lh4APSt4GYBA&ved=0CEIQ6AEwAw
  8. "Wait...I thought they say size doesn't matter... "
  9. i like straight pipes with the little flippy things on top
  10. 15 months? i think there must be other resources to tap.
  11. knowledge is cumulative: http://www.scalemodelguide.com/construction/techniques/photo-etched-parts-models/ http://www.italianhorses.net/Tutorials/Photoetch/pe.htm http://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page16.html http://www.micromark.com/SearchResult.aspx?deptIdFilter=0&searchPhrase=bender http://www.missionmodels.com/home.php?xid=004adb3e420bc7b3508663e0589a92dd http://thesmallshop.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3
  12. OP Quote: " ....to make a beefier rear diff ... , how do you get the proportions right?...."
  13. thanks
  14. perfect all the way around. and a name i haven't heard since the '70s.
  15. wherezawheelsfrom? lots of nice details on this one, too.
  16. Drillspot.com also has bits from #81 - 90 something. they are made with a bigger body so you can either finger twist or chuck them. the sets have multiples of the same size; they're prone to breakage via radial thrust. i know someone will correct my explanation; that's the fun of posting!
  17. from this build thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65298&page=1 page #7.
  18. inbedding is beyond my abilities http://theselvedgeyard.wordpress.com/2009/05/24/the-great-1950s-t-bucket-rod-rivalry/ http://auto.howstuffworks.com/grabowski-t-hot-rod.htm http://www.streetrodderweb.com/milestones/0112sr_norm_grabowski_kookie_kar/viewall.html
  19. photo etch parts are comparable to doing your own dental work. on yourself. although i do have better luck than using bare metal foil. here's a quickie how it's done. http://modeltech.tripod.com/etchingarticle.htm my main obstruction is that quite often the manufacturer of the photo etch doesn't include instructions, so the builder really has to think backwards of how the intended part would be broken down into components, and then try to find said component on the etch fret. remember the 3 level chess set in star trek episodes? that's easy compared to photo etch assembly.
  20. did come out real nice. i keep looking for the Appletons
  21. this does look much better skootched down
  22. that's a great tie in. i used to collect matchcovers. another facinating hobby!
