  1. i just ordered 6 cans from here: http://www.megahobby.com/ Fine Surface Primer Light Gray Spray Tamiya TAM87064
  2. if i want a good paint job, but not a shine to the finish (suede/ matte), should i still polish? or just fine sand the final coat?
  3. thanks; i'm not feeling so inept, now.
  4. very nice build. i have two questions: is the generator trick something 1:1 cars have, or your own idea? (i'm going to steal it, btw) when so many different kits' parts are interchanged, how the heck do you keep track of their lineage? thanks
  5. nice. i've got both of mine ordered! Q: someone made a vacuformed Millar about 20 years ago. was that an Etzel product? i had one but never built it (too intimidating!) and i would give it a try now if i could find a manufacturer thanks
  6. you must have had "nos". i've had to knead the tube before (i don't use a lot of putty - i just buy a new tube once a year) but never had anything but success with it. i stick to the green version.
  7. i've had good luck with Squadron putty - both green & white flavors. i think the difference is that white dries slower but is a finer finish. in all honesty, i cannot tell the difference. the purists recommend something different which they claim will not shrink over time, but i'm lucky i guess and have no had any problems with Squadron.
  8. once you decide where the wires will go, grab some insulated wire in different sizes. for the first couple of builds, you can get buy with old phone or electronics wire. if you're really into it, there's a few companies that have "scale" wire. locate where one end of the wire is going. strip aboit 1/16" (will vary by wire size & part size) of the insulation away from one end of the wire. grab your pin vice (we used to heat a needle in a candleflame) and a drill bit the size of the wire in both pieces to be joined. drill a hole deep enough to hold the bare wire so the insulation will butt up to the part. cut the wire long enough to be able to route it through the kit (chassis, engine bay - whatever)and drill & strip the other end. dip each bare end into a little (little!) thick super glue, and pop it into the holes.
  9. thanks for the leads. i've made my own, but the store bought ones are best for longevity and use as my experience dictates. i'll be placing an order next as i've had good luck with the suppliers mentioned. thanks again
  10. i've had good luck with Stevens International sanding sticks. anyone have a mail order source for these? and how do they compare to Squadron products sanding sticks that, while about an inch shorter, are also more moderately priced and individually packaged. thanks, sp
  11. thanks for picking up on that. i've corrected the link http://public.fotki.com/chucky151/chassis-and-running-gear/
  12. anyone know where i can get Early Racing Classic's parts? the website (as of 10/20) indicates no orders until spring. i wanted to order a few of these: http://public.fotki.com/chucky151/chassis-and-running-gear/ for my winter projects. thanks http://public.fotki.com/chucky151/chassis-and-running-gear/
  13. sounds pretty well thought out. if it helps one kid, it's not a waste of time
  14. i have what i believe is the same kit; Revell BMW - Dixie. my intention is to get a model A 4 banger into the original frame. your's is much further along!
  15. great project. didn't realize from the first picture that the engine was so, uh, "robust"! any chance you could share how the headlights were fabricated? thanks
  16. another way might be to highlight what you need, and "copy". then open up your Word program and "paste" then print like any Word document
  17. could you share the source for the grille? promise i won't get one (or six!) nice mill. what's the (supercharger/ blower?) under the dual carbs? love the thickson air cleaner. vintage speed equipment ROCKS THE HOUSE!!!!
  18. i've seen this around the web, but haven't happened upon the build thread. near the front x there seems to be 2, albiet offset, pairs of frame horns. is this from a frame graft, or a period boxed rail? in either case, bitchen' old school build!
