  1. Several companies have popped up that convert old 911s and 944s into safari style cars. They are a fun model project to work on. I googled Porsche Safari and all sorts of cool ideas came up. https://www.motortrend.com/features/1808-luftauto002-the-safari-porsche-911/
  2. It's been a year of changes what with semi-retiring, and health issues. I did manage to get a workspace built, and found most of my modeling supplies and got them stowed away. Considering this was the hottest summer on record here in Texas, going out to the shop was all too often out of the question, even with the A/C going. Most of my shop time went to actually building the workspace. Then I got distracted by finding and shelving the unbuilt model kits I'd packed away after the last two moves. Oh, and I found six big boxes of unbuilt kits in my in-laws attic that I forgot I had. Anyway, here are the kits I managed to build this year. The first was Revell's Honda Civic kit which I built without the body kit. That kit didn't feel like it should be either Fast or Furious. The only real change was to add a set of custom wheels that weren't quite as low profile as the kit offerings. It's a nice kit that could use a reissue with more stock parts! The second completion was one of Monogram's old Porsche 911 Carrera kits. This kit is a curbside, low detail kit, but it allowed me a chance to let my imagination free to convert it to a Safari version featuring some scratch-built parts and some tires from an old Ford Ranger kit. This is a simple kit but I loved building them as a kid and had several. Finally, I came across an old ESCI Countach kit that I bought a long time ago. It's not a good kit, it made me think of some of AMT's old bad 70s kits. Still, I finished it in Cannonball style with the wings and driving lights.
  3. I just got that kit from Lionheart Hobby recently. Haven't opened it yet, but hope to get started after New Year's. Looks like fun!
  4. Not sure which way we wind up going, but stuff like this is giving me ideas! https://edbolian.com/a-photo-tour-of-the-2904-winning-mercedes-s55-amg/
  5. Sounds good to me! I have a couple of ideas to start with. Guess the ground rules will need to be worked out. Going by the pictures on RestoMod Academy, the cars look fairly stock with some flares and spoilers allowed.
  6. It's been a trying couple of months here, so I've been making contingency plans for various possible topics for a distraction. I'm coming up with ideas for different cars and such.
  7. It looks true to scale except maybe the rear wheelwells may be modified a little to fit those huge tires.
  8. Nice work! I really like some of Jada's offerings, but my scale OCD won't let me. I wish they or someone would offer the F&F cars in a true 1/24th scale, especially the Escort MK. II.
  9. I can see getting a Nova for sure. If only I had the skills to convert it to a four door. One of my memories as a kid was my grandfather driving one. His company gave him a car allowance with the only proviso being it be a 'good work car', bit he liked fast cars. To that point he went down to the Chevy dealer and ordered a four door Nova with the police package and a 350 with the four barrel. I think I remember him saying the police package meant he didn't have to have a catalytic converter. He ordered it in a generic beige with brown interior and said he could speed anywhere without the cops noticing. The only options he checked off were the premium radio and air conditioning. As for the Cougar, I have a 73 already along with a 72 that someone gave me. Most likely, I'll still buy another anyway.
  10. No, but I have used a 1/32nd semi trailer to build a custom trailer to put behind a 1/25th pickup truck. The trailer ends up being about the same width as the truck.
  11. You can build it as an Uncle Carl car, the kind of beater your old uncle might drive around town. Fill it with a fishing pole, tackle box and some beer in a cooler, lots of fast food bags and bang up the exterior a little and call it good.
  12. I suspect it's rather like two part silicone putty, in that it doesn't quite pick up all the details the way poured silicone molds will.
  13. I came across this website a while back and they have some good prices. Anyone order from them? I'm hesitant to order without a recommendation. https://www.1999.co.jp
  14. Got a picture of one of those Rivian electric delivery vans in Dallas the other day.
  15. Interesting, it looks like it has a 70(?) front bumper and a 74 rear!
  16. There will be rules depending on the theme, the main thing is to have fun and stretch your imagination. Going by your screen name, you might look for something like one of these?
  17. This is my daily, a very old Lexus RX 350. Lots of miles on her and yet she still took me to Dallas this week, in comfort the whole way.
  18. Using cars for unintended purposes can be fun! This is my most recent build.
  19. It's fun to dive in with an old kit or just parts and make something!
  20. Another vote for Duplicolor. I use their sandable primers exclusively. They come in white, grey, red and hot rod black which is a really dark grey. I've never had a problem with it under any kind of paint. It does build up and can be grainy, so you need to wet sand it with really fine sandpapers, but it gives an excellent surface.
  21. The Ranchero idea is probably the easiest, but I hate to waste a body! LOL I bought an 84 Camaro promo one time and the guy threw in a second for nothing because it had similar damage to your Falcon. I bought some two part silicone mold putty from Hobby Lobby and made a press mold from the good kit, then used some casting resin also from HL and a little piece of fiberglass to make a replacement part. I stuck it together with super glue and kicker and a piece of wire to add extra strength.
  22. Proving I learned nothing from my Italeri experience, I just bought their Fiat 131 rally kit and their Lancia Delta Integrale kit. I also have two of their Gelandewagen kits. Here's hoping all those are better!
  23. My load from a trip to Dallas and a visit to Wild Bill's Hobbytown in Arlington and in Dallas. They are gradually selling off all the old Wild Bill's stock, but someone told me they are now buying up collections to add to the stores. I guess I was in an Italian mood! Also bought some Plastruct and some Gundam decals to add to the collection.
  24. Do you know how this kit compares to the old AMT 280ZX? I have one of those somewhere and didn't know Tamiya made one as well.
  25. I’d love to see Round 2 pick a year, and clone some of the missing Craftsman kits from that year. Say for 1964, they could do the Plymouth Barracuda and Valiant to go with the ones still around like the Comet Caliente and the Galaxy. Maybe they could restore or clone all the ones they turned into stock cars too?
