  1. Nice work so far , David . A *tiny* suggestion , and please take it only as such : the 1977 models had ambre turn signal lenses on the tail lamps . This was a one year only deal ; it's easy enough to simply paint the ambre over the red-cast lamps . Let me see if I can pull-up an image as a reference . EDIT : The only photo I could find of the tail lights of a 1977 Monaco (see attached photo) . Too bad that the car's at an angle ; however , the taillamps are 'clearly' ambre .
  2. Beautiful Dart , Rodrigo !! That engine is righteous ; the "weathering" is spot-on ! Your Dart looks like the Darts I have seen online from Brasil ; the whitewall tyres and the hubcaps are right on ! Do you happen to have a 'real' Dart your-self ? Keep up the great work !
  3. What-ever did happen with this WIP ?!? This thread's 5 years old already !
  4. And yet MPC was able to produce a cab with its rear panel moulded-in , with zero interior tub interference problems ... ( I'm not picking on your comment specifically , Casey ; I just wanted to use your comment as my launch pad ) .
  5. Cool project , Mike ! Please tell me that you're sliding that 225 under its bonnet ...
  6. Believe me , they're priceless ! I've got pics of my special feline companion , Buddy (R.I.P. , 12-APR-1986 - 02-JUL-1992) , sitting on the hood bonnet . You can't buy those kinds of things !
  7. 1) Was your introduction to modeling at home? Not that I can remember . I don't believe so ... 2) From whom? Most-likely , one of my older neighbours . 3) What kind of models (cars, planes, trains, etc)? A bit of every-thing for sure . I recall that the older dude up the street had airplanes hanging from the ceilling in his bedroom ! It was really cool . 4) What did the person who introduced you to modeling do for a living ? Hmm ... One of them worked at the local Alpha Beta supermarket ; the others were just buggers like me , students and whatnot. 5) How old were you? Around age four . Yeah , it was 1974 when I started . Snap-togethers , none-the-less . 6) About what year was your introduction? 1974 , for snap kits ; around 1975 or 1976 for my first glue kit .
  8. Congratulations , Tomo ! Do yourself a solid and take lots of photos of not only your car , but you with it . My first car was a 1972 Dart Swinger . Factory EV2 Hemi Orange with white interior ; 318 V8 , 904 , etc. , etc. I bought it for $800.00 on 29th August 1989 from the son of its original owner . Believe it or not , eight hundred dollars was quite a bit of coin for a Dart ( or Duster , etc. ) in 1989 !! But , it was worth every penny . Say , did that t-shirt you're wearing come with your car or did you buy it in anticipation of buying a Golf at some point ?
  9. It seems apparent that many customs from circa 1969 - 1972 (give a few years ?) were fitted with Cibie headlights . Chrysler's show / customs (1969 Swinger 340 built by the Alexandria Brothers [sp?] , the 1970-1971 RTS Caravan Plymouth customs , etc.) were almost always fitted with the Cibies . From what I can gather (in my 43 years in this organic host) is that there was serious speculation that the U.S.D.O.T. was going to grant approval of Cibie and Cibie-type headlamps for the 1970 or 1971 model year ; ostensibly , that never materialised (and , no , those gross square quad-lamps of 1975 don't count ... I'll refrain from opining ) . I really like their appearance ! I've been *toying* with idea of adding a pair to one of the 1969 Darts and-or the 1970 Road Runner I have awaiting in the rafters ...
  10. Additionally , Ford started painting their engines in the aforementioned "Ford Engine Grey" for the 1983 model year (heck , even Monogram *asserted* that Ford's engines were blue on the then-new 1987 Turbo Coupe Thunderbird !). Good call on stripping that nice-shade-of-blue-although-it's-not-stock from your engine . I too am closely following your WIP , as I am curious as to its outcome ; how the completed kit is going to appear .
  11. I , too , just commented on this kit on Revell USA's facebook page . Of course , I also complimented them on their solid points ; criticise as well as compliment , is my personal rule . Oddly , the blue 'street' version buildup on the box appears to have a decent roofline . Certainly this "illusion" can be attributed to not only its colour (blue , single tone) , but its position on the box art , and the lighting . I'm definitely not implying that it's absolutely alright ; I'm just mentioning the "play of colour" : the black and white (contrasts) versus the blue (compliment) .
  12. I have absolute faith that Revell will make it right . There's too much potential for exponential loss of clients (e.g. , cynicism and comtempt for future products) if they just let the flaws slide . Revell's customer service is top notch , at least in my experiences with them . I certainly believe that it's in their best interest to continue this in regard to their complete products . Now , how about a revision / backdate to a 1982 model ?
  13. Thanks for taking the time to share your photos , Brett ! Looks like a very impressive kit ; close to absolute perfection ! The engraving is just gorgeous ; super detailled and highly realistic ! I agree with Casey ; good call on Revell-Monogram's part as far as the ejection pin points (even the hood's underside's pins are in acceptable locations ! The decals are so-so , in regard to their phantom police dept markings . The California "E" (for "Exempt") plates , while incorrect for a 1990 model year vehicle , are still quite nice . Ca's 'exempt' plates were blue / gold until circa 1984 , when , at such time , the so-called "Sunburst" plates were utilised . A 1990 Exempt plate would be pearl white , reflective , red "CALIFORNIA" with blue characters . This kit looks like a superb candidate for sharing its parts ! The separate diff cover for the infamous 8.8" rear is great ! Now , I'm curious about how its tyres look ...
  14. Oh , where to begin ... Guess I'll go in chronological order : 1.) 1970 Challenger . Nothing special as far as model or engine , as it was a base 318 . However , it was a very early build car from the Los Angeles plant , and was a showroom model at Atlantic Dodge in East L.A. !! My cousin bought it new , drove it right off of the showroom in late Sept 1969 . It was FC7 Plum Crazy , black top , black interior with console , AM-8 Track , Rim-Blo wheel , W11 wheel covers , etc. , etc. It even had black / gold Calif plates !! While I don't remember the plate's number , I do recall seeing a "Z" on it , and that the plates were , indeed , 1963-1969 Ca plates . When I got my license in Sept 1989 , I was looking for a car . My cousin still had the challenger , but was considering selling it . I said , "FIRST DIBS !" , to which she agreed . In the meantime , I found a clean EV2 Hemi Orange 1972 Dart Swinger , which I bought . Months pass , and I hadn't heard from my cousin . I finally called her , to which she replied , "Once you bought that orange car , I thought that you didn't want my 'old purple car' anymore , so I sold it ..." 1971 Coronet Wagon 383 4-Speed . I spotted this oddity at 101 Used Cars in Carlsbad ( Ca. ) back in 1990 . 101 Used Cars , was a classic car dealership my friend and I frequented any time I drove to Carlsbad to visit him . One time in the Spring of 1990 , I spotted this "out-of-place" 1971 Coronet wagon on the lot . I perused it , pondering its presence . I looked inside and saw a Pistol Grip Shifter jutting-up from the floor (!!) . A quick check of the v.i.n. revealled an "N" engine code : 383 Magnum !! My pulse was racing and I was flush with excitement ! I popped the hood to look at the car's fender tag . I about passed out when I recognised a "D21" !! It's a factory 383 Magnum 4 speed station wagon !!! The dealership "knew" what they had . They wanted $2,000 for it !! That was entirely too much for my 20 years old budget !! I wonder what-ever became of that anomaly ?? 1974 Monaco "A38" . Within months of seeing the aforementioned 1971 Coronet , I saw a 1974 Dodge Monaco at the local community college . It was black and white , but wasn't a Bluesmobile replica ; just an unmarked , retired police car , sitting by the college's shop garage . A check of its v.i.n. revealled DK41L4D !! The "K" meant Police Model Conversion , and the "L" meant E58 , 245 hp 360 HP !! While I found the 360's presence to be "odd" , I wasn't all together surprised . After all , 1974 was the dreaded gas crunch era . All of its police-model-specific parts were still there ; Unity spot lights , shotgun rack , Certified 140 MPH speedo , rubber mats , and , oddly , power windows . While the car ran well , it did need some work . The owner was asking $900.00 , but was willing to trade for my 1972 Dart . A raw deal , even by 1990 standards ! I passed on "the deal" , and I still regret my decision .
  16. Riverside County's roads have a love affair with big alloy wheels and rubber band tyres ... In my opinion , Classic , Muscle , Pony , etc. , cars don't look right with wheels which are larger than 15" in diametre . Certainly there are some exceptions ( I've seen some gorgeous scale representations here with big wheels / low-pro tyres on Muscle cars , and I truly like them ) , but those exceptions are few and far between . Like I've said before ; I admire Foose's work . As an artist and a gear head , I sincerely admire Chip's artwork (i.e. , the drawing of the project car which is being built) . I may not like all of his custom touches , but my opinion's of little consequence . Like anyone , Chip , et al. , has to earn a living , and if 33" wheels on P375-35R-33 tyres and multi-tone paint schemes pay those bills , then so be it . Can't fault the guy for getting paid for building what his customers want
  17. Typical College Boy mentality ... frat brats with mob mentality . They should live so long ...
  18. I bought my copy of this kit from a local-but-is-a-chain hobby store , a few years back . I paid maybe $5.00 for it ! It was in the store's 'Red Tag' aisle . I started building it , but my attention was distracted when Round2 re-released the 1975 E-100 van . I painted mine with a silver metallic acrylic lacquer I got a work . The finish came out perfect ! I'm going to build it as a 'curb side' for a couple of reasons : 1.) I'm going to use some of the engine compartment items for other builds (the brake booster / master cylinder , etc.) 2.) The engine --while decent-- is lacking in some details . When's the last time you saw a Monte Carlo which didn't have power steering and air conditioning ??? I'm happy with my five dollar investment
  19. AMT's 1953 F-100 and Revell's 1956 F-100 have the hubcaps .
  20. Hone-O-Drive was literally just down the street from where I grew up !
  21. The only 1973 Malibu / Chevelle that's around is resin cast . But , I can attest to the caster's beautiful products : Missing Link Resins is the only game in town regarding the '73 A-Body ! EDIT : Here's the link to this car in particular . For the finished product ,. you can go right to Missing Link's site ; for the lead-up to its creation , follow the pages in this topic : http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=51594
  22. I'm happy as pie about the return of that DOHC Hemi ! Pair that up with the T-Flite from the 1971 Charger R/T and drop 'er into said Charger . The Charger's shear panels need some *shaving* in order to accomodate that big ol' Hemi's heads , but it looks nice . Than there's the 1968 Hemi Dart ...
  23. Doesn't the MPC 1972 Road Runner annual come with the 1971 RTS' parts as its custom option ? I'm not implying that you go spend $100 + on that kit ; I'm just inquiring about its custom options .
  24. The 1970-1971 Plymouth Rapid Transit System [RTS] Road Show cars are all found and restored (as necessary) , and are in the collection of one Steven Juliano . The attachment is of the 1970 Duster from that show . Has anyone attempted to replicate one or all of the cars from this collection ?
  25. Nice FE5 Red Charger , Stephen ! Is this the same car that graced the cover of Muscle Car Review a few years ago ?
