  1. I bought the circa 2008 revised-reissue of the 1970 AAR 'Cuda ... ... only for its separate battery , heater hoses , etc. , etc. , to use on the old standby 1971 Hemi 'Cuda
  2. LX coupe had vastly different tail lamps . In addition to their horisontal pattern , they had ambre turn signal / hazard lenses (why aren't these required yet ?!? I despise red-coloured turn signals !!).
  3. My therapist contends that the Frankenstein 'Cuda had clear lenses , whereas the 1971 original had the chromed pieces . My therapist is rarely wrong ... after all , she is my wife , too . The kittens are just fine , by the way
  4. I honestly believe that all of us just want for Revell to succeed in spades with this release , hence the sincere criticism . The prototype's lack of clear tail light lenses is just that : prototype . I'm just happy that Revell had at least something to share in respect to their progress . Do I want for clear lenses ? Yes . Will the (potential) lack of them deter me from buying at *least* one when it's released ? No. Now , a malproportioned body just might keep me from buying it ...
  5. What kit are you starting with ; the ol' Monogram 1969 Super Bee ? That kit is "wrong" in a few areas : 1.) Magnum 500 wheels . All "A12" Bees and R.R.'s had unique-to-them 15"x6" C-Body police car wheels , painted high-gloss black , and with chromed lug nuts . 2.) Power disc brakes . You have already figured this one out 3.) Plymouth emblem on the rear seat (?!) . For whatever reason , this obvious gaffe eluded me until someone else pointed it out to me . It has been at least 20 years since I have even seen the contents of that ol' Monogram Super Bee ! Last one I bought was on sale for $1.00 at Kay Bee Toys ; the original version moulded in blue metallic ! Please keep us posted with your progress and keep those questions coming
  6. Power-assist brakes were optional , but rarely ordered ; I have seen only one such example . These cars were only available with drum brakes ; disc brakes were not an option . This applies only to these "A12" Super Bee / Road Runner cars .
  7. '68 BH23H8B in Q5 with black interior , T-Flite , 3.55 , AM-FM (factory) ... Rare piece !
  8. I've had a love for the R5 since I first laid me peepers on one back in 1983 ! It was charcoal grey with a charcoal and red interior and some subtle blue accents . Its "L"-shaped tiller really grabbed my attention ! It was apparent that whomever owned the car got it via the black market , as it was sans the hideous US-spec side marker lamps , big truck bumpers , and catalytic converter . Don't concern yourself too much with the paint fubar , Juan . Afterall , it is a Rallye car and not some primped street car . Battle scars add to the flavour ! BTW , does Tamiya still produce this kit in 'street' form ?? I want one !! Heck , even a race-prepped version would suffice (other than its tyres) ...
  9. I built the Brat back in '79 or '80 ; and I built the Rabbit in the early 80's . I bought the Subaru at Woolworth's in La Mirada . I remember building it wheil watching the Carol Burnette Show ! I bought the Rabbit at JC Penney's in Whittier for $1.00 from their clearance aisle , back around 1983 . I had my older friend spray paint the body with Testors Car Colors (remember those ?) Sky Blue Metallic , and I ahnd painted the interior in Testors Flat Sea Blue . I , too , would LOVE to see these kits reissued ! I can see a WRX Boxster engine swap into that Brat ...
  10. Oh , okay , gotcha . A converted 426 Street Wedge would have a regular interior . It's of little consequence ; yours looks great !
  11. From everything I've read / seen in my 43 years , 1965 "WO51" had 'champagne' interior ; not sure about the "RO51" . Not that you've asked , but : 1964 had red interior ; 1966 D-Dart was red ; 1967 had black ; and , 1968 Hurst A-bodies were black .
  12. Don't know why those addresses didn't show as links ... Guess you'll have to cop & paste their addresses to your address bar .
  13. Honestly , it's been a while since I've purchased any since I haven't had to buy replacements . However , the last time I was at HobbyTownUSA in Temecula , Ca. , I recognised an entire rack of Gunze paints ! None were marked as "Clearance" , so I'm *guessing* that they're still receiving shipments ; the racks were relatively full . I also used to buy them at thee premiere hobby store in Burbank , Ca. I'll edit this post with their respective website addresses (both stores) so thaty ou may contact them directly . Burbank House of Hobbies : houseofhobbies.com Hobby Town USA :hobbytown.com
  14. Plast-i-Struct makes sheets of clear acetate in varying gages . ( I hope that your replica of the Harrell '69 L-88 isn't going to include those incorrect-for-1969 wheels ... )
  15. I , too , have had good luck with Gunze's line of paints . My favourite colour is Burnt Iron ; its finish is dead flat ; its dry time is short ; and its application is easy . Equal to Tamiya in every way , at least in my experiences
  16. I hope that Revell "sees the 'light'" ,and that they move the lenses to the clear parts tree ... Please ! Even the ill-fated 1970 AAR 'Cuda ---in both iterations , 1994 and 2008--- had clear lenses !
  17. YES !!! I've never seen a '68-'69 Nova with a 4 popper , but I know that they exist . Good call on replicating one of these oddballs ! My mother had a 1963 Chevy II with a 4 cylinder . Its only options were 4 speed and AM radio ; just a base 2 door post . From everything that I've read , a 4 cyl / 4 speed "II" is quite rare . Did these 4 banger Nova come with 13" wheels or 14" ?
  18. That standard ( non-Shaker ) hood looks like it'd be a cool custom piece , especially with some creative bold-stripe decals or painting ! The sides of the body look a little too tall to me . Not "slab-sided" , just too tall . Perhaps it's just the combination of the monochrome kit and convention hall lighting which create an illusion ? I'm loving the separate wipers , the nicely rounded windshield surround , the interior (what I can see of it) and its options . I just hope that the tail lights are moulded clear and not chrome or red ! I would also like to see the trim rings and centre caps moulded separate from the Rallye Wheels .
  19. Am I seeing things , or are all of the exterior lights moulded clear ??? That's the way (uh-huh , uh-huh) I like it (uh-huh , uh-huh , uh-huh) !
  20. That move was another Jerry Brown special ! That idiot made the B.A.R. add a NoX Sensor to cars which were not originally equipped with such a device ; my dad's 1969 Dart got nailled with that piece of junk NoX Sensor . Basically , it retarded the timing via the distributor vacuum advance ; a real MPG killer !!! Circa 1984 : The year we were finally freed from the talons of Brown : My dad receives a letter in the mail stating to the effect , "The NoX Device is no longer necessary on your [1969 Dodge] ..." So , as quickly as he read the letter , he was out under the hood of the Dart , removing that piece of junk sensor ... ha ha ha ... I can still see him throwing it as hard as he could , bouncing-off the pavement as it were , throwing a bit of a spark as its metal body spanked the asphalt . I must admit that I'm surprised that a 1964 model year car had to meet Ca's restrictive standards ! For many years , only 1966 & newer cars were subject to the probing of the B.A.R. creeps , with one exception : engine swaps ! For many years , the vehicles were expected to meet the emissions standards of the year of the car's engine !! So , a handful of sharp fellers were swapping older engines into their newer cars , thusly avoiding smog tests !! Witness the then-common practise of swapping a Buick 215 V8 into Vega and LUV trucks ; a CCV (predecessor the the PCV) was the only piece of smog equipment on those engines (and , an improvement to the lifespan of the engines vs. Road Draft Tubes !!) . Beginning in c.1984 , the smog testing guidelines changed ; now only 1966 & newer cars were subject (why 1966 ? First year for A.I.R. Pump ... though not every engine was so equipped) , regardless of the year of the engine under the bonnet . As I've said time and again : I like clean air . I do not miss the days of 3rd & 4th Stage Smog Alerts . But , I also realise that there's a point of 'diminshing returns' when it comes to emissions inspections . It's just not realistic to make every vehicle subject to fuel-mileage-killing catalytic converters / restrictive exhaust / electronic carburetors / etc. ! It's been proven twice that modified engines can and do produce less harmful emissions ; however , new(er) cars with their superior fuel injection / dry induction (especially Direct-Injection setups !) , conversely , run worse when their equipment is fiddlled with (read : fart cannon exhaust crowd). Too much money to be made by running at the pipe testing ( no visual ) , and excepting vehicles 20 years old and older .
  21. 1973 was the last year for the Super Sport package on the Chevelle ( and '73 was also the last year for a 454 / 4 Speed combo , if I remember correctly ... ) . The Motion-built '73 Chevelle* originated as a 454 / 4 speed (a rarety in its self !) . Its original purchaser was "displeased" with the lack of power from the LS-4 engine , so he opened his wallet wide ($16,000 in 1973 !!) and had the folks at Motion build a 427 , add the Hone-O-Drive , slide some trademark Corvette sidepipes on , etc. , etc. A really neat-o ride !! * = An SS model
  22. Super nice '78 LTD , FireModelMan ! Were these LTD's equipped with ( 335 Series ) 351 / 400 or the ( 385 Series ) 429 / 460 ?
  23. The best thing about the original issue ? It was produced when Revell-Monogram still made their kits in the U.S. ! I can't believe that it's been 10 years already since this kit hit the shelves !
  24. I live in the smog check capital of the U.S. : California . White Glove test for every and any 1976 & newer vehicle ; visual and dyno (tail pipe) tests . Back in 1998 , testing for vehicles which were then-25 years old and older was dropped ; 1973 & earlier vehicles were now exempt ! This was supposed to be a rolling 25 year exemption (today , a 1988 vehicle would be exempt) ; however , our former Governor , "Ahh-nohld" , kissed butt to the wench at the C.A.R.B. (Calif Air Resources Board) , and suddenly , the cutoff is now 1975 . While I like clean air , I also realise what a joke these visual tests are ! Who cares what's under the hood so long as it's clean out the pipe ?!?!? I have seen vehicles fail the visual , but run clean out the pipe ; and I've seen cars pass everything else (visual) but fail the pipe test . It's been proven twice that modified vehicles run cleaner than if all of that archaic equipment was in place ! Once those EGR valves become obsolete , the charcoal cannister is no longer serviced , and the distributors with stiff-as-a-carcass advance springs all fail , the car will run dirty ! I'm just glad that my 1972 Coronet is exempt from Calif's smog check scam / money grab !
  25. When my uncle saw my 1972 Coronet for the first time ---I've had it for eight years now--- he said , "Seventy-two , huh ? I'll never forget this year [of these cars] as it was the first year that the [LASD] finally got air conditioning !" Whittier ( Ca.) , LAPD , LASD , etc. , always had mid-sized cars from as far back as I can remember . LAPD tested and had a small group of 1976 Valiant A38's ; but , they were hampered by a single exhaust / cat con , which whittled the 360's output to 195 hp . Most were either 318's or 225's ; some had the 360 . By the way ; the 1978 Fury from Colors (1988) was parked under US 101 Hollywood Freeway at Bushard (across from the main LAPD vehicle storage / repair facility in Downtown ) . Last time I saw it was in 2001 . It was still in that yellow colour ; 360 four barrel. I was stunned when I saw it , caked-over in dust , just sitting under the freeway overpass !
