-57 Chevy, driven by Jere Stahl -FINISHED-
1972coronet replied to W-348's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Mika - What can I say in addition to the words of our fellow kit builders ? Positively stunning work !! That is one of the nicest '57's I've seen in recent times ! Keep these gems coming ! -
'62 Impala Super Stocker. -Finished-
1972coronet replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Beautiful work , Niko ! Very , very clean craftsmanship ; gorgeous looking build ! Keep the great work coming ! -
I knew that you'd get the reference ! Hickman's probably my all-time favourite Stuntman from "the golden era" ; just an absolute genius ! He not only corrographed the stunts in Herbie the Love Bug , Bullitt , French Connection , etc. , etc. , but he also piloted the cars ! Just an amazing dude . My favourite scene from The Seven-Ups is when the Ventura crashes hard into that tractor-trailler . Y'know why ? Because some nutjob actually drove that Ventura into that trailler's bumper ! A one-shot deal ; get it right-on or blow it completely . Youtube *used to* have "Anatomy of a Car Chase" available ; the behind the scenes of the car chase from the Seven-Ups . Brilliant !

78 Toyota Land Cruiser J40
1972coronet replied to Grzegorz's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Another outstanding build , Grzegorz ! A friends' parents had one back in the day : Chevy 383 stroker with a hard-shifting TH 400 ! Lots of fun ! -
Nascar, ya like the new car?
1972coronet replied to rel14's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While I'm not really a fan of watching "NASCAR" (et al.) , I am a fan of the *legal* origins of the organisation (e.g. , post-Moonshine-running). However , "'Stock' Car" is so far removed from its origins that it's not even fun anymore ; there's no showroom stock cars to be found !! In my guilded opinion , NASCAR needs to revamp its operations ; a return to Body-In-White bodies as the basis ---regardless of the cars' bodystyle (2 door , 4 door , etc.)--- is necessary , as is the use of factory-based engines / drivetrains ( a V8 Camery ?!? When's the last time one could buy one of those off the showroom ??) . With all of the above : I'm not the least bit impressed by the lot of it . It's all shooting fish in a barrel . Where's the endurance aspect to the "race" ? How is what I'm seeing on the track --the winners and the top contenders-- supposed to decide me on purchasing the "Win On Sunday..." vehicle ? Strip-away all of the freakin' computers , communications , and the "equality" (everyone uses the same equipment as their fellow "competition" ? What is it , a Pine Wood Derby ???). Now , Ontario Motor Speedway (R.I.P. , 1970-1980) circa 1970 or so = FUN . Petty's then-new 1971 Satellite on-track with the "small guys" in their 1967 Chargers , 1966 Chevelles , 1969 Torinos , etc. New tracks and "equal" vehicles = *YaWn* -
Y'gonna add a 1/25 scale Bill Hickman to your Grandville ?
-
Exactly ! I'm sick of seeing these original-paintings-from-the-Van Gogh-archives prices !! That's why I absolutely love it when certain kits are reissued : it drops the prices monumentally on epay !! Case-in-point : no more $50.00 + for the AMT 1975 E-100 van kit !! I'm very much looking forward to paying $20 - $25 for a brand new ( including the freakin' decals !!) 1971 Demon reissue as opposed to feeling like I'm at Sothbey's holding-up a sign with a number on it during a bidding war !!
-
I'm hoping that both sets of bumpers , etc. , would be included , that way one could build either a '71 or a '72 , or a combination thereof . Yes , I'm aware of the intrinsic differences between '71 and '72 ; easy changes in-scale .
-
I'll have to keep that in-mind for my future searches . It's certainly heartwarming to recognise that Round2 has seen fit to revitilise the coveted MPC moniker , and catalogue them as such . Man oh man , I can hardly wait for the Demon and Dart Sport reissues ! Now , let's see if Round2 will reissue the late 90's 1971 Duster 340 (for obvious reasons) and , hopefully , the ol' MPC 1971 Road Runner (with the 1972 bumpers and tail lights , please !).
-
I also noticed that the Promo-style 1974 Barracuda is slated for reissue , too ! Why does *that* excite me ? That kit represents a rarety in the "1:1" realm : a non-'Cuda model with the 360 (flat hood gives it away) !! A BS23L4 is rare in and of its self , but a BH23L4 is a virtual anomaly ! Can't wait for a "proper" reissue of the 1975-1976 Dart Sport ! Hopefully , the braintrust at Round2 will see fit to return that kit to its 1976 Annual origins , but with some updates / additions ; the wheels and tyres from the Smokey Chaser (or whatever that 1977 issue of that kit was called) would be most welcomed ... ... especially instead of those grotesque "dartboard" wheels from the '75-'76 annual . And , a full complement of freshie decals would be great , too (in es , factory stripe option ; and , perhaps , some Hang 10 decals !). Am I the only one who'd really like to see Round2 re-release the old MPC whitewall tyres from the 1974 & earlier annuals ?
-
Thank you , Rob and Steve ! I obviously assumed that , since AMT / MPC got married back in 1986 (that long ago already ?!?!?) , that all formerly-marked-"MPC" kits would be under the AMT banner . Thanks again

Not seeing the 1971 Demon reissue on Tower's site ; not even on the last page of the AMT listings ... Got a *direct* link to its page on their site ?

55' Chevy Cameo 1/25 AMT
1972coronet replied to kekefe's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks for the clarification , Bill ! I just recently discovered the GMC version of the Cameo ! In all my 43 years , I'd never heard of them , let alone see one . -
My most sincere condolences to the friends and family of Scott . "see you when I get there ... ... if they let me in."

55' Chevy Cameo 1/25 AMT
1972coronet replied to kekefe's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Kekefe - Super nice truck ! Very clean ! The lack of Cameo trim reminds me of the Cameo's lesser-known cousin :the GMC Carryall (no trim on the bed ; typical GMC "Bull Nose" fascia ; and Pontiac engines ). -
1969 Plymouth GTX (Complete plus a few progress images)
1972coronet replied to Rod's topic in Model Cars
Rod - A sweeter '69 GTX would be hard to find ! Bravo ! So many MoPars of this era look great in TX9 Black , and your version here certain exemplifies my assertion . As far as wheels for 1969 Plymouth B-Bodies : The only mandatory / standard wheel I can recall is that the Hemi option *had* to be equipped with 15" wheels . For 1969 , this limited one's choice to : - Plain wheels with hubcaps ; - "Recall" Kelsey-Hayes cast wheels , or ; - Steel wheels with deluxe wheel covers . Of course , that has little baring on your "black beauty" ! Keep up the great work ! -
Grzegorz - This has got to be your finest conversion ! While I certainly admire all of your work , it is this one which truly hit the mark ! It would be nice to see this cast as a "trans-kit" !

The Bullitt Mustang was a 390 GT ; 4 speed , power disc brakes , Torque-Thrust wheels . Revell did ( still does ? ) produce a version of the car from the movie . I cannot attest to its authenticity , however .

Duel Plymouth Valiant WIP Almost finished 14/02
1972coronet replied to IMPALA SS 427's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks like that guy's Val is coming along quite nicely as well . I do , however , agree with the other members' assertions regarding the roof ; it looks chopped ! I know wherein the problem is : the builder added styrene strips along the upper door line , which was unnecessary . On the other hand , the builder's workmanship is super clean and well-executed . I certainly wish him success as well , and would like to see both your build and the other forum's member's version , too . Keep up the superb work , Impala ! -
History of AMT & MPC's Action Line Pickup Kits
1972coronet replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Gosh darn it ! I knew I shouldn't have bid-max on that Teddy Ruxpin doll ! The same amount of money would've brought this baby home instead ... *GrUmPH* -
Not only is Testors spray paint notorious for being thick , it's also a painfully-slow drying paint ! But , it hasn't always been that way ! I noticed that their paints --at least their enamels-- were getting yucky back in the late 90's . Prior to that , I never had a problem with their paints , dry time or otherwise . Be careful with how much of that paint you lay down on that Duster's body , as the side markers , the gas cap and the door lines are pretty faint on their own !

aurora 1/16 super scale pinto funny car
1972coronet replied to tenboy69's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks much for the link to that cool story , Greg ! I recall seeing the Aurora Racing Scenes kits when I was really young ( I was 4-5 years old in '74 / '75 ) . The local "high-end" department store carried them in their toy department . They looked absolutely huge to me ; and that realistic box art left me with the sensation that I could actually sit inside the completed car ! Of course , I would never know the pleasure of building one of these beauties ... One thing's for sure ; I didn't notice until now that these are snap-together !
