TAMIYA CEMENT (LIQUID GLUE)
1972coronet replied to ChrisR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Tamiya also makes a super-thin-consistency liquid glue ; look for the stuff with the Green cap . It's used for when parts are clamped-together ; either brush the glue over-into the joints , or drop a small amount in a gap in the joint . It dries quickly and strong . -
The "Street Machine" version had : - Hemi cylinder heads in place of the 440's wedge heads (think : "Stage V" Hemi head conversion) ; - H.P. 440 exhaust manifolds to mate-up to the Hemi heads (?!?) ; - Ugly aftermarket wheels with rubberband tyres ; - "Ramcharger" hood ; - "Bright" (e.g. , bare metal foil 'em) tips on the tailpipes; - So-so decals .

Thanks for the review and beautiful photos , Casey ! Few things to watch for during assembly : 1.) Driveshaft-to-differential : trim driveshaft's U-Joint surface ; 2.) The tabs for mounting the windshield interfere with the dashboard ; I just completely remove --or even just file-down-- the cowl-area of the windshield ; 3.) There's a minor sinkmark on the roof directly adjacent to the interior dome lamp , and ; 4.) The air conditioning "hard" lines are a bit "trying" in the core support area . - The "Ramcharger" hood (colloq : "Air Grabber") wasn't available with air conditioning , hence the standard "louvered" R/T hood. - The single O/S L.H. (Driver's Side) mirror was standard . Racing Mirrors --body colour available with select colours-- were optional . - Column-shift was standard unless the console was ordered . - This kit doesn't necessarily represent a California Emissions Package ; however , the lack of Brite Exhaust Tips would indicate a car built with the Noise Reduction Package . I truly wish that Round2 ---- let me preface by stating that I'm beyond grateful that they're re-releasing and upgrading these kits ... I really wish that this kit was further upgraded with an non-A/C option , a Six Pack option , a Ramcharger hood option (vis-a-vis the otherwise barfy "Street Machine" version) , and the correct bucket seats .

AMT 62 Catalina 2 in 1 Review Needed
1972coronet replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
One caveat : once you open the box and remove even one item , you'll never be able to repack it ! This thing is full of parts ! I highly recommend it ! -
The only things I can think of details-wise are : 1.) Charger had the Inland Shifter , and not the Hurst Shifter ; 2.) Both cars had power disc brakes ; 3.) Both cars had manual steering ; 4.) Charger's body colour is TX9 Black , and ; 5.) Mustang's steering wheel wasn't stock ... I'm *thinking* it was from either a Cobra or a Shelby GT 500 .

Speaking of which , do you still have a spare Missing Link '72 Demon transkit ?

I can still hear the ungodly --but beautiful-- sound of a ThermoQuad-equipped 440 being romped-on ; that vacuum sound was unreal ! Nick Winter is right about the engine colour . To add to his reply : just grab a spray can of Chrysler Engine Blue ( coll : "1972 Blue") from the auto parts store , as it's the right shade for '72-'83 Chrysler engines of all displacements ( 198 / 225 ; 318/340/360 ; 400/440 ). Also : Cars destined for California were sans the *dreaded* Electronic Lean Burn computer . In its stead , a full compliment of smog devices were provided ( A.I.R. Pump , EGR , single exhaust / catalytic converter ) , whereas the Lean Burn cars were free of smog junk , as the computer was supposed to work favourably to reduce emissions (apparently , Jerry 'Bald Eagle' Brown was completely unaware of this). Nice work you've completed so far !

Wayne Kramer (Guitarist , MC5 ) got the name for his first band from Connie Kalittas' dragster : Bounty Hunters !

1966 Ford Mustang Sports Coupe Is Completed

Mike , I have the utmost confidence that you're going to turn this relic into a top shelf gem ! It's already lookin' quite nice . How many blue models do you have now , by the way ? -
NICE !!! Easily the nicest '73 Charger I've ever seen !! WOW !!! The paintjob alone looks better than any paintjob laid down by Lynch Road on the best day ! And , of course , the correctly coloured engine and air cleaner are the tops ! Super Blue (same exact colour as Petty Blue) is such a gorgeous colour , and French Bleu is *very* close to its tone . Keep those beauties comin' , Raoul !
-
Thanks for additional info , Raoul ! That GTO's boilerroom looks awesome ; I'm definitely not suggesting that you failed to deliver that in any capacity . No pre-heat tube , no problem . I was just surmising as to its presence , as I know that not every high-perf car had that arrangement in 1970 (witness the air cleaners for the 340 , and the Air Grabber / Ramcharger F.A.I. of the 383 / 440 / 440+6 and Hemi : no "cold start emissions" air cleaner). Incorrect air cleaners for otherwise stock engines are a sore point with me (in es , the air cleaner in the old Monogram '71 "Satellite" ) , but I don't know why . Keep up the beautiful work , Raoul !

Another splendid build , Sport ! Q5 is such a beautiful colour ; frankly , I'm surprised that there weren't more '68-'72 MoPars built in this colour ! I've only seen two which were Q5 : - 1972 Dart Swinger Special ( "Q5" was right there on its fender tag ! I guess that '72 was its last year) - 1968 Barracuda Formula-S 383 (original , very faded and oxidised Q5 . Car was largely original , with its only mods being Ansen Sprints , Doug's functional side pipes , and a two barrel carb atop the original intake which was added in '74) Keep those beautiful builds coming !
-
Groovy Judge , Suburban ! Reminds me of the one in Dazed & Confused (1993 film which takes place in Summer 1976 ... 'highly' recommended !). Is that air cleaner assembly a non-thermostatic version ('69 & earlier on *most* American vehicles) or does it have the "cold start emissions" heated 'cleaner base ?

I had the original release from circa late '87 / early '88 , and it was a very nice kit in its day (including those outrageous-for-the-time ZR-50 Gatorbacks on big-for-the-time 16" BBS wheels). The original release included ignition wires (as did the Corvette ZR-1 and other "premium" Monogram kits in that series). Now , if only Revell-Monogram would see fit to reinstate the freakin' lettering on their kits' tyres !!!

Current Project On My Bench... 88 Mustang GT
1972coronet replied to Madrdnckbldr080's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice phantom ! Too bad about the SVO Mustang ; the right car , but at the wrong time . Is your build based upon the MPC annual ? -
Man oh man , that is looking SHARP !! Go ahead and paint that engine compartment an colour you desire !

Seller's name / nomanclature ... ?

Touchy, Touchy Terms
1972coronet replied to James2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"Motor" versus "Engine" : Why is the lubricant called Motor Oil instead of Engine Oil ? How about "'Motor' Mount" instead of "'Engine' Mount" ? Here's another one : "Valve Cover(s)" . Aren't they technically Rocker Arm Covers ? Cam Covers ? Perhaps "Valve Cover(s)" dates to the days of Side-Valve ( "Flat Head" , et al.) engines ? How about "Manual" brakes ? Unless one is using hand controls , the brakes should be Pedal . Then there's "Manual" steering (isn't all steering manually-operated ?) and "Roll-Up" windows ( a.k.a. , "Manual" windows ) ; wouldn't Digital be the correct term ? I love colloquialisms ! -
NICE !!! Those '67 pieces look great !! Such a unique year amongst the A-Bodies ; lots of firsts and lots of lasts . I , too , would LOVE to know where you got the conversion parts ; or id you make them yourself ?
-
I also love it when someone pokes an old thread with a stick ! Please forgive my list for its potential redundancies : - 1973-1976 Duster / Dart Sport . While the ol' MPC annuals are nice , they could also use an upgrade. - 1967 Camaro . How nice would it be to see a , say , Revell version ! Would be nice to see both a small block and a big block , and vintage equipment ( Bill Thomas decals ; Motion decals ; Stinger hood ). - 1970 Dart Swinger . Can't get more iconic than the affordable Junior Supercar 340-powered Dart ! For whatever reason(s) this kit has been largely ignored since day one ! Yes , a resin trans-kit is available ; but no correct , stock interior is available (!!) ; then there's the Ramchargers' Funny Car as well as the Charlie Allen L.A. Dart exhibition version ; but NO stock versions ! Again , Revell gets the nod . - 1978 Monaco / Fury . The iconic B-Body versions of 1975-1978 . A 1977 could be represented as well ( so long as the tail lights are Moulded.Clear. !). A real version of this car would be a World Class seller ! NO goofy deep-dish wheels and steamroller tyres , either ! That's all for now

Persoanlly , I'd stick with acrylics if I were you . I'm not here to knock Testors line of paints ; I just prefer acrylics , and since you're used to working with them , you've already got a selection of them at hand . I have two bottles of acrylic brush paints which are over a quarter century old , and they're just a good as the day I bought 'em : - Tamiya Clear Red (bought in late '85) - Gunze-Sanyo Clear Orange (bought in Summer '86) Also , Tamiya's spray paints are the best , bar none . Consistant spray delivery , fast dry time (even in cold weather !) , and just all-around excellent results .
