Gorgeous Gremlin , Erik ! I've wanted to try Tamiya TS-60 Pearl Green , but I didn't have any idea how it'd look . Now that I know , I'll have to go grab a can of it ! ( I have used the Green Metallic . Matter of fact , that was the very first Tamiya spray I'd ever tried ! Which kit supplied its tyres for this ?

Cool cars your grandparents owned
1972coronet replied to Fat Brian's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My grandfather (1897-1989 ) built his own motorcycle in the late 'teens (e.g. , 1916 or so) out of parts from various crashed Harley Davidsons . I've seen photos of it ; it was belt-driven (early H.D.'s were belt-driven and had pedals ; truly a Motorised-Bicycle !). In addition , he had one of the very first H.D.'s (1906 ?) wheich he bought upon his return from his service during WW1 . His mother "made" him dump all of his "dangerous toys" ! Ha ha ha ! Imagine him being a veteran , and being told by his mother that his motorcycles were dangerous ! Subsequently , he owned an EMF (Everet-Moure-Flanders , if I remember correctly) which he called an Every-Morning-Fix-it , as its tyres would constantly roll-off their rims . I can't remember what he'd owned from the late 20's until ... ... circa 1934 , he bought a then-new Ford . The V8 was new in Fords that year . In 1948 , he had a Buick Roadmaster . My dad said that it had the "hang-on (to the door frame around the rear door's window)" air conditioning . He and my grandmother took a trip around the world in the late 50's / early 60's . In Germany he bought a Mercedes to drive around Europe in . When they returned to the states , he had the Mercedes shipped over to San Pedro (Los Angeles' "South Bay" shipping port). I still have its German license plates in storage ! His 1964 Cadillac Fleetwood was getting too big , so it was traded for a '67 Buick Skylark . In late '68 , he bought a new '69 Dart Custom (the trim level between the 270 model and the GT) two door . It was for my grandmother to drive around town in . It had a 273 , auto ; a/c , AM radio and power steering (and junk manual drums brakes) . White with green interior . When my grandmother got pulled over for driving the wrong way on a one way street (she was in her early 70's at the time) in 1971 , she gave up driving ("If I can't remember which direction the streets run in the city I've lived in since the late 20's , then I shouln't be driving any more. "). They gave the Dart to my parents in '71 or '72 . That's the car that I grew up around ! After my grandmother passed away , my grandfather remarried . My step granny brought a '68 Mustang coupe to the party . She bought it new at ___________ Ford in Pasadena . It had the 289 / C4 . It was painted a special order colour , a pastel green . She sold that car in '78 and bought a '79 Honda Civic . Aside from the various trucks and tractors and various construction equipment (he and his brother owned and operated a construction business) , he'd owned a variety of other cars which I cannot recall right now. -
Mopar steel wheels
1972coronet replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Nice work , Jacen ! These wheels , in their original-to-the-kit version , remind me of the 1978 Super Coupe wheels . -
Thanks . I couldn't remember whose kit this was ~
-
NICE !!!! That is some beautiful work !!! I just recognised the separate windshield wipers ; are they photoetch parts ? I actually have this kit , but am too lazy to check ! .

Missing Link kit or ????

I agree with you 100% , HIPPIE DUDE !! I have always been nothing less than thankful for Round2's existance . If not for them , what would've happened to all of those new(er) RC2/ AMT toolings and old MPC & AMT toolings ??? It pains me to pay $40+ for old MPC , AMT , et al. , kits from eBay , especially since I'm not a "collector" ; I like to build them !! I , too , hope for the continued success of Round2 ! I don't mind at all having to massage these restored-mould classic kits ! I I've been playing with the Phantom Van for a bit here , and am loving all of the massaging ( dressing-down ejection pin marks is about the only pain in the a55 thing ) that's needed in order to build it to my satisfaction . Perhaps if we continue to support them , they'll have enough capital to invest in brand new kits ( e.g. , 1968 Coronet R/T that was cancelled by RC2 ... ) ! Keep those restored reissues coming , Round2 , and I'll continue buying them !

The most tragic U.S. earthquake in recent history had to have been the 1989 Loma-Prieta "World Series" Earthquake ( i.e. , the '89 San Francisco Earthquake ) . Just to *think* about how much worse its effects would have been if traffic on I-880 was normal ! Traffic was light because of the game between the A's and the Giants ; none-the-less , many parished in the collapse of the "Cypress Viaduct" portion in Oakland , when the top deck collapsed-onto the lower deck , crushing all of the vehicles . Then there was the poor folks who'd had clearance to cross the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge , even though a section of its upper-deck had collapsed-onto its lower deck ! The driver of the red '78 Zephyr parished ; the passenger was stuck next to his deceased friend for an ungodly amount of time , awaiting a rescue ( that unfortunate fellow must be revaged by nightmares to this day !). I had relatives whom lived in that area ( Alameda , off of High Street , and ; Hayward , off of Tennyson ) . When my family and I were up in Alameda in July of '87 , we were in traffic on I-880 , right at the Cypress section . I remember my mother saying , "I'd hate to be up here during an earthquake !" , and only 2 years later ... !! Let alone the Whittier quake only 3 months later .

Paxton blower question...
1972coronet replied to johnbuzzed's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I believe that 1957 was the year that Ford offered the Paxton as an option on the 312 ! I'd imagine that there must be images of that setup online ... -
Revell '62 Corvette Roadster 2'n1
1972coronet replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It's difficult to tell from this angle , but I wonder if --given the car's country-of-residence-- those inside laights are ambre ? I know that many countries require ambre lenses or bulbs for turn signals / hazard lights . -
I've quit drinking cold turkey ( 25.03.2002 ) . I've had *maybe* a couple of shot glasses worth of a tasty Ale or Stout (only because I loved a good Ale or Stout , the only beers I could enjoy !) since then , and only because a friend was drinking something that *looked* and smelled tasty . I quit smoking marijuana (18.05.2002 ) as its effects were becoming , shall we say , less than pleasurable ( panic attacks , getting "the fear" , and other uncomfortable sensations) . Conversely , I wish it was absolutely legal . I know many who smoke it to ease chronic pains , boost their appetite , etc. , etc. I haven't taken an amphetamine tablet or capsule in over 10 years . While I only used good , clinical prescription stuff ( typically , Adderall ) , and only if it was around , I didn't "abuse" it . Only took one if I wanted to stay up late after working all day and having to show my art at an art opening . The only psychedelic I've ever taken was STP ( chemically , DOM ) . All I can say is , "WOW !!" . It was a heavy , but really fun , trip . As far as cigarettes are concerned : I've been smoking on and off since H.S. , more on than off . Love me some Marlboro Reds , and American Spirit Piraque Blend (a tasty cig with coffee drinks). I smoke a lot at work , but not nearly as much when I'm home all day . I might knock off about 5-7 Reds on my days off , sometimes only 2-3 a day ! Considering all of the other stuff I've used / abused over the years , my cigarette habit is nothing ! Ha ha ha . I know people who only smoke when they're drinking , or only at work , or other special occassions , and they all agree with me : smoking bans in bars is just plain stupid . Really , who goes to the bar for their health ??? Ascinine !! So , yeah , I still smoke cigs . " If I chase away all of my devils , my angels would leave , too ! "

Completed 1977 Porsche 924 Martini Championship Edition
1972coronet replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in Model Cars
WOW !!! That is beautiful !!! Y'know , I've never seen this kit in built form , either . Kinda surprised about that , as one of my friends was all about exotic cars ; and in subsequent years , owned a '78 924 . It was a copper colour ; it was nice and clean . It got totalled out in '93 when it was hit hard in the rear by an inattentive driver . -
I , too , was wondering what the deuce "Bent Eight" meant ! In my mind , "bent" , in reference to engines , means "slanted-over" (i.e. , Chrysler's Slant Six , which is colloquially referred to as "bent six"). Well at least Revell's choice of description is unique

Parts kits - what's your favorite?
1972coronet replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The AMT 1960 Starliner has two complete F.E. engines ( 352 / 360 / 390 c.i.d. ) with attached transmissions (3-speed O.D.) , and 3 induction options ( single 4Bbl , three 2Bbls or two 4Bbls ) . -
I *physically* survived the 1971 Sylamr Earthquake ( 09.FEB.1971 @0600 HRS) ; the 1987 Whittier Earthquake (01.OCT.1987 @ 0742 HRS ; aftershock on 04.OCT.1987 @ 0359 HRS ) ; and the 1994 Northridge (very close to the 1971's epicentre !) Earthquake (can't recall its time or date ...). I say "physically" survived , as the 1971 quake was my first memory ( I was 10 months old ... scared the hell outta me and my mom !) and the 1987 earthquake absolutely destroyed my hometown , and the results of its aftershock a few days later almost literally killed me . Needless to say , I couldn't sleep for months afterward ( numerous nightmares and whatnot ) , and it was years before I could be *anywhere* in the dark ! P.T.S.D. is what it's known as ! My neighbour and his younger brother have it , too ; my neighbour because of Vietnam ( Hamburger Hill survivor) ; his younger brother because of his brother's flashback "episode" (trying to be sincere here , not derogatory , hence the quotation marks) while the quake was happening (the 1971 quake ; they lived in North Hills). But , I divulge ... The worst thing about earthquakes is that there's no sign of them coming !!! Certainly , I pay very close attention to how my kitties are acting ; but other than that , zero warning . At least Tornadoes and weather-related destruction provide warnings. I'm not saying that to marginalise the recent tragedies by any means ; just comparing the two natural disasters .

1978 Coroner's Van

1978 Coroner's Van
1972coronet replied to Scalper's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The factory-stock wheels are included ! They're the chrome plated wheel covers (often and erroniously referred to generically as "hub caps") that are on the kit's chrome tree . If you want for plain steelies with el-strippo hub caps , you can source them either from an old MPC Ford van kit ( "Sundowner" , et al.) or from one of the resin casters ( I recommend Missing Link , if they've got 'em) . -
Mopar Frame Swap
1972coronet replied to Car Crazy 81's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The AMT 1971 Charger R/T has a nice "generic" 1971-1979 Dodge / Plymouth "frame" (All Chryslers from 1962 & on were UniBody) and suspension . Not sure if you're going to have to extend it for use on the 4 door , but I (mildly) doubt it. Go ahead and also use the Charger's engine bay , engine and TorqueFlite trans . If you want to get even more detailled , make the Charger's diff look like an 9.25" (very similar in appearance to a Dana 44) , as 1974 was the last year for the 8.75" (drop-out carrier) diff . Lettuce see some pics of your build ! -
Vintage License Plate Images
1972coronet replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Definitely a cool link , Ken ! I was scoping out the Cali plates ; and while there were some discrepencies with years-of-issue , the rest was good enough . Now , here's my #1 favourite plate of all time : MICHIGAN 1976 ! -
That colour looks even nicer in that light , Mike ! I hope that my reply didn't seem as though I was questioning your choice of colour here ; quite the opposite ! Truly , I was more intrigued by the availability of that colour , as I'd never seen it before (or perhaps I just passed it over without even perusing it ?) I applaud "breaking-the-norm" , and you've consistantly delivered in that arena . I also truly enjoy the accompanying stories to your builds as well . Being of creative capacity myself (visual artist and creative writer) , I always dig on multimedia presentations .

Looks great to me , Daniel ! You are on your way to a great start ; and there are a lot of nice and friendly folks around this forum . Please do not be concerned with any perceived language barriers . Personally , I try to make an effort to type without any contracted words ( "do not" versus "don't" , for example ) , and any translation will be made easier for you (or any of our brothers in non-English-speaking countires ). I am looking forward to watching your progress and am looking forward to seeing more of your models here .

Sweet build , HIPPIE DUDE ! I was looking forward to seeing a psychedelic paint scheme ; however that black with white lettering is perfect as well ( not all psychedelic artwork is in colour ; most of my work's done with a black Gel pen !). Any under bonnet shots of that Hilborn-topped Mark IV powerhouse ?

Well , what-ever that 70's rollerskate's name was ... Guess I'll have to "wiki" it and see about its country-of-origin ...
-
WOW ! That is NICE , Steve ! Wasn't the Fiesta based upon the Mazda 323 ; or was it a Kia of some sort ? I can't recall ... Used to see 'em everywhere when I was a kid !

This you've gotta see....
1972coronet replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Charger's v.i.n. is listed (XP29G8) , but ... The "Check Engine" light only adds to its value , as that shows that tis engine is doing something . I threw my hat in the ring @ $15, 001.64
