Revell '50 Oldsmobile Club Coupe 2'n1
1972coronet replied to styromaniac's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for sharing your pics of this kit's contents ! That hood looks like it fits quite nicely ; looks like it's moulded-shut ! I , too , feel that R-M left the emblems off due to the common practise of builders using photoetch . Those "glode" emblems are too neat ! I can imagine them being applied to other kits (like , on the hood of , say , Revell's 1956 F-100 , when the kit's engine is replaced by the Rocket engine from this Olds kit !) . -
Monogram Customizing Auto Engine Chevy V8 - Retro Review
1972coronet replied to jbwelda's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
WHOA ! This thing is bad!! I've ne'er even heard of this kit , until now . It's especially nice for its time-of-release . If the tooling still exists , then a modified (i.e. , cleaned up) reissue would be nice to see . I'm looking forward to following your build of this hidden treasure ! **As a side note : I really , honestly believe that a kit like this should be a required project for any engineering course in Jr. High and High School (and a smaller , simpler version , in smaller scale , for elementary school kids ) . The hands-on experience would be worth its weight in gold !** -
Thanks for the answer , Sport Suburban . I couldn't recall if those colours were one-in-the-same . You're right , Mike , those wheels do look a little "flat" ; they look like negative-offset (?) front wheels for a dragster ! And , please tell me that those aren't supposed to be the stock Pontiac Rally II wheels ; they look nothing like them ! Have you ever made your own "adjusted-depth" wheels before (e.g. , use the wheel centre , but add a deeper rim) ? I'm also waiting to see what you use as a basecoat / primer for the engine colour
-
I only see painted hood centres and not actual power bulge hoods ... Petty switched to a Charger some-time in '72 .
-
This is going to be a lot of fun to follow , Mike . One of my preschool friend's parents had a '69 Judge (bought it new ; I first saw the car in '73) in white with black interior , column auto ! Isn't Huggar Orange the same as Orbit Orange / Carousel Red ?

I'm very interested in seeing how you convert the rear bumper to the 1972's version !

80 Ford F ?
1972coronet replied to Grzegorz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I remember seeing a fleet of 4 door Broncos at Downey Ford (Downey , Ca) in 1987 . They were a fleet order for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department's Paramount station . They were all black with white front doors and roof ; "Custom" trim ( vinyl seats , black rubber mats , etc. ) ; Certified speedometer ; dual Unity spotlights ; plain wheels with hubcaps . I saw one in the junk yard in '92 or '93 -
Hmm ... I wonder if there's ever going to be a '70-'72 Gremlin released ...
-
That'll be a nice touch ; however , technically it's "incorrect" as personalised license plates didn't appear until 1970 , the year that Ca's plates went to blue with gold lettering .
-
I like this a lot . My favourite things : - You scrapped the brake booster ; - The detail painting of the alternator (an all-too-often overlooked item !!) ; - The overall quality of the build . Very nice !!
-
Brittle plastic or absolute frustration ? Nice restoration !
-
VERY nice ! I , too , would flattered to have a model of one of my cars built for me as a present ; nice gesture . I agree ; a new-tooling of a '67-'68 Camaro is MUCH needed ! And , of course , it would need at least 3 different hoods , at least 2 complete sheets of decals , and gads of vintage custom parts (tyres , wheels , exhaust , etc. , etc.) , options to build a Dana version ,!! Any-how ... GREAT work on your '67 SS !! Butternut Yellow was a common colour on 67's for good reason

Sunny Side Classic (Revell 56 Del Ray)--How Do You Want Your Eggs?
1972coronet replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Model Cars
NICE !! Exceptional workmanship ; love that colour !! This is one super slick '56 Those gorgeous wheel covers look like Cadillac pieces ; are they ? -
I agree that an all-new '68-'70 Plymouth B-Body needs to be done . The AMT kits of the '68 & '69 R.R. / GTX are so-so (never did like the way they did the battery ...) , and that Monogram '70 GTX-come-'70 R.R. is mediocre . While the R.R. is an improvement over the original GTX kit , it still has those lingering antiquities of its Monogram roots ( blobs for carbs ; the toothpick-thin exhaust ; the exhaust being moulded to the axle / rear suspension assembly ; and those ridiculous looking tyres ) . I'm still 1) No vulgar language or "fake" vulgar language (as in #&@$$!#$!!). Offensive language is completely unacceptable. about the cancellation of the 1968 Coronet R/T that RC2 / Electric Bugaloo was going to produce prior to their collapse ... *sigh*

WHOA !! That's beautiful , Bruce !! Ranks right up there with your finest works !!
-
Now that is a Road Runner done right , Sport Suburban !! I've always loved the 1972-1974 blue engine / orange air cleaner combo . A new tooling from Revell-Monogram would be nice ... Again , with parts to build either a '71 or a '72 and with the phantom Superbird parts ! To the nay-sayers : If these kits are so "undesirable" in scale as well as in 1:1 , then why are the old MPC kits going for such outrageous prices on ebay ??? If no one wants theirs , I'll gladly take 'em off your hands for $5 a piece !
-
Beautiful Bonnie ! Those K-H 8-luggers look gorgeous ! My favourite thing about this build ? Its paint job ! It looks absolutely in-scale , just perfect .

** If this Is Moved to Its "Proper" Forum , Please Inform Me ** Rhetorical question here ; who'd like to see this kit reissued by Round2 ? More-so , as a "4-in-1" , which would include not only the 1971 version , but the parts from the 1972 annual as well ! The only work the builder would *have* to perform would be replacing the 1971's side markers with the generic 1972 lenses . The prices on this kit ( and its 1972 successor , as well as its 1987 modified-reissue ) are ridiculous at best ; and being that I don't have a buck-forty to spend on a kit (let alone my 1:1 car !) , I think that a retro-reissue would be in order . The building options would be virtually endless , from a stock '71 383 R.R. , to a 440 Six Barrel , to a 1972 phantom Superbird , and any-thing in-between !

Cool project ! Now , not that it truly matters one iota here , but some-thing that I feel is worth mentioning : The 1969 Chrysler 300 and its similar siblings (New Yorker , Imperial , Monaco / Polara , Fury) are what Chrysler calls "C" Body . This carline had a front sub-frame while the rest of the car was "Unitized" (think : G.M. "F" and "X" bodies ; Camaro , Nova , et al.). Again , this info doesn't / shouldn't affect your project ! Your choice of a mid-sized chassis ( Coronet , Charger , Road Runner , et al.) is absolutely fine for its intended purpose , and is certainly more workable in this capacity . I divulge ... I'm quite looking forward to following your progress . That Super Stock Hemi / TorqueFlite combo is a great choice !

AMC Gremlin Drag Car. Update 9-11-12
1972coronet replied to cobraman's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking GREAT ! That 304-360-401 / Torque Command 8 duo looks NICE ! I'm glad that Round2 included headers in this kit (unlike the original-issue Matador ! ) ; Good call , guys ! I hope that the rear tyres clear the wheel arches as well ... * I forgot to mention how in love I am with the "Michigan '76" plates that AMT included in their kits during their original period . Best looking plates in 1:1 , in my opinion ! * -
How-ever did I miss this the first time around ?? Nice work on the resurrection ! I love these early 90's AMT Ford F-150's . I bought one back in circa 1993 ; I painted it British Racing Green with tan interior ( complete with black 'rubber' floor cover , just like a XL model would've had ) . One of the nicest kits out there ! Got it in storage some-where ... I've always preferred the 1st Gen "Lightening" over the '97 & later versions . It just looks more appropriate to me in a square body than in a rounded body ; and the 351 Windsor is a better engine vs the 4.6 / 5.4 , in my opinion . Weren't some models equipped with a Rootes SuperCharger ?
-
Looks like Revell-Monogram is going to hit another bases-loaded home run ! I've always really liked the late 50's Fords . If a Ranchero and or Ranch Wagon is made off of this mould , I'll just burst !! Can't hardly wait for this kit to hit the shelves !

Need some Mopar Po-Leece dog dish hubcaps
1972coronet replied to Bonekrosha's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
"Police [Hub] Caps" is a bit vague ; Chrysler's "A38" Police Package cars were more-often-than-not equipped with the strip-o hub caps . I'm going to assume that you're referring to the infamous 1977-1989 versions . No one , to the best of my knowledge , makes these highly-desirable hub caps (the 1977-1989 "vented" caps) in any scale . However , I can't see them as being terribly difficult to scratch-build in 1/16 scale . -
Is this the kit from the new AMT school-of-thought ( i.e. , the 90's ) , or is it the "bastard" version ( i.e. , the half MPC Annual / half AMT parts ) ??
