Lets See Your Replicas of Yours/Your Families Cars
1972coronet replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Cars
These are some great replicas / builds here ! Great work , guys ! It'd be kind of difficult for me to replicate cars I've owned and old family cars , at least in full-accuracy ( 1969 Dart Custom 2 door H.T. with a 273 / 904 ; 1976 Mercury Monarch 2 door Ghia , 351W / C5 ; my 1972 Dart Swinger ; and my 1973 Duster ) . I could , however , compromise with the '69 Dart (revell's '69 383 GTS) , the '73 Duster ( old MPC Annual ) , and the '72 Dart ( resin '70 Swinger with some bashing / scratching) . Lindberg made a 32nd scale 1976 Monarch (or was it a Granada ?) , but those are hard to come by . Keep up the great work ! Looking forward to seeing more ! -
That's not the V.I.N. (although the V.I.N. is included herein ) , but rather the "Fender Tag" . "XP" = Charger S.E. , and it's even equipped (originally at least) with the top engine option for the S.E. : the 330 hp 383 Magnum ( which should be Chrysler Blue by the way , not Orange ) . The "FC7" = Plum Crazy Purple ; it also originally had a black vinyl top ( V1X ) and a factory AM-FM radio ( R22 ) , which is useless overseas . Neat-o rig never-the-less , especially in your area !

Round 2's 66 Mustang reissue review
1972coronet replied to oldscool's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If for nothing more than nostalgia ( or is it a midlife crisis in my case ?) , this'll be in my 'To Build' pile in short order . I wonder how many parts in this kit are from the George Barris ' Sonny & Cher customised Mustangs from circa '66 ? Thanks for the detailled review , OldSchool ! -
Missing Link Resins makes some absolutely stunning 1/25th scale 1969-1975 Dodge hubcaps . Full detail , amazing accuracy ; Missing Link makes top notch parts . Highly recommened ! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59600 I got the set which I ordered , in less than one week ! *as a side note regarding the 1:1 scale reproduction of these hubcaps : i'm glad that they're available , but $100 each is tough to swallow ! *

I'm starting what I hope will turn out to be an interesting thread regarding emissions equipment , and said equipment as it applies to our scale realm . I am definitely looking for contributions from any-one and every-one . To start , here's a link to the excellent site Hamtramck Historical Registry ( Class of 1970 )'s official , factory release of Chrysler's 1972 emissions packages : http://www.hamtramck...hlights06.shtml What I personally find interesting about this invaluable info is that , as a life-long resident of California ( growing up not too terribly far from Chrysler's Los Angeles [ City of Commerce ] plant ) , and as a life-long gear head , I have not until very recently seen a single 1972-1974 Dodge / Chrysler / Plymouth Slant Six or Big Block with an A.I.R. Pump ! What's odd about that is that California until 01-01-1998 , required emissions inspections for all 1966-present gasoline-fuelled vehicles . These were invasive "I/M" ( Inspection & Maintainence ) tests ; and the lack of an A.I.R. Pump --where required-- would cause an automatic fail . But , then again , there were also A LOT of "back door" inspections , as well as "One-hundred-dollar-bill-pinched-under-the-air-cleaner-wingnut" inspections . But , I divulge ... I thought that this info would be of interest to those among us whom desire to replicate everything underhood . I have seen a fellow hobbiest add the missing tubes and hoses to their gorgeous 1969 COPO Nova's 427's A.I.R. Pump arrangement ; I have also seen another brother add the much-cursed-at Electronic Lean Burn arrangement to their 70's Cordoba , and I was duly impressed . Again , please feel free to build on this thread with any info --personal experience or factory-to-dealer releases --which pertains to this subject . Enjoy !

Missing Link 1969-1975 Dodge Hubcaps
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
@ Danno : The coveted (for their parts only) '75-'78 Monaco / Gran Fury police car models produced by Yodel featured the vented hubcaps , albeit with simple "dimples" on the caps . I'd imagine that one could either paint the holes or carefully drill them out using a pinvice . -
Missing Link 1969-1975 Dodge Hubcaps
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
To clarify the variables regarding these hubcaps : 1969-1975 Dodge hubcaps (mid-late year change to "generic" hubcaps ; no Dodge-specific markings) were used on all carlines . 1969-1975 Plymouth hubcaps : same as above The vented hubcaps came around in circa 1976 or 1977 , generic to both Dodge and Plymouth , but typically found only on "A38" conversion packages (police package) . Civilian models still had the generic , plain hubcaps. When the Dakota was introduced , the fleet package models (city / county / state and telecommunications) received these vented hubcaps , as did the '80-'88 Diplomat / Fury twins . The vented wheels were introduced in circa 1976 or 1977 , and were only available in 15" sizes (15x8"). I have also seen (and have personally owned a set) a variation on the '69-'75 Dodge hubcaps , which I *believe* were used only on trucks and vans . These were stamped as the passenger car versions , but were sans detail painting , and were finished in a dull silver or aluminum . -
Looks very nice ; clean craftsmanship ! Nice yard you've got at your place , too

After less than a week , I received my order for Missing Link Resins excellent 1969-1975 Dodge hubcaps , and I am beyond words when it comes to describing their beauty !! These 25th scale , chrome-plates gems are spot-on with the details ; how did they fit all of those hubcaps' details into these little beauties ?!? I'm posting this at my own beheadst to let you all know that if you're considering buying them , don't hesitate for one minute ; they look better in person than in the photos !! The ones I bought are going on a '69 GTS 383 Dart .

Mike , I too am in love with your choice of colours for this build ! Imagine if Chrysler made colours other than organosol [sp?] blackout available ; white , GA4 Winchester Grey , etc. I think that I'll have to try something like this on my next '71 Duster build ...

something for the 60/70s crowd
1972coronet replied to Lownslow's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
YES !! I remember those from when I was a kid !! The dad of one of my friends in elementary school had a '60 Pontiac in Lowrider regalia . It had not only the organ pipe speakers (clear ones ; I initially thought them to be window defoggers until I heard music coming from them ...) , but also a Craig 4 Track player , ambre metallic Brodie Nob , 13" Cragar S/S wrapped with thin , narrow white wall tyres , and a subtle paint scheme . LOVE those 60's / 70's Lowriders ! I was blessed to have grown up right in the middle of Muscle Cars and Lowriders , so I love 'em both (and even the rare combo of the two styles ). -
The VEGA & PINTO Celebration Thread
1972coronet replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Those cars rusted even out here in the Mediterranean Climate of California ! I worked with someone whom used to work at the Los Angeles South Gate Plant . For one year , this plant built the "H-Special" (Monza , et al.) ; I believe this was in 1975 . My former co-worker related stories to me of how everyone on that line was stoned on Crosstops or Methedrine ; that the drivertrain guy was so high that he was swinging engine-transmission assemblies right through the cars' windshields ! Much of the build quality issues of the "H" and "H-Specials" are directly attributed to white collar types whom thought that "100 Cars Per Hour" was efficient and achievable ! Small wonder that the line workers said "No problem ! And , no problem doing a half-assed job ! " -
Is the AMT 1970 1/2 Camaro any good?
1972coronet replied to '08SEAL's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wonder if there's any practical way that Round2 , et al. , could include parts to build any 1970-1973 Camaro , or offer "parts packs" which would include the various years' exclusive parts (interior , lighting , etc. ) . The one in the pic here is , iirc , a 1973 Phase III , right ? Now , if *someone* would produce a street version of a '73-'75 Chevelle , so that a replica of the B-M '73 Chevelle SS "427" could be built ... -

Here's some esoteric trivia regarding the 1974 Mustang II : - First year for that bodystyle - Last year before delicious catalytic converters - Only year a V8 wasn't available in the Mustang -
** I Don't Know WTH Happened to the image of the GMC V6 in My Above Post ?? ** Couple more : 1.) Detroit 12V-71 with twin 6V-71 Huffers (inside a 'Rod) 2.) Pontiac 250 C.I.D. OHC Sprint Six As a side note ; it's too bad that American car manufactuers didn't allot more funding for the development of their six cylinder engines . Imagine an OHC Slant Six ; wider application of the Pontiac 230/250 OHC ; a Diesel Slant Six ; and many more . Engines which could've saved the manufactures and the consumers A LOT of grief starting on 21.OCT.1973

I chose the following , based upon : A.) Visual Appeal B.) Performance C.) Seldom Seen ( excepting the 340 ) In no particular order-of-favour : 1.) GMC 702 C.I.D. "Twin-Six" 2.) GMC 351 "Big Block" V6 3.) Buick Nailhead 4.) MoPar 340 ( I chose the 1972-1973 version strictly for its visual appeal of the orange air cleaner / blue engine ) 5.) Experimental Oldsmobile 455 C.I.D. Hemi More to follow ...

MPC 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee
1972coronet replied to 1972 Satellite's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Round2 should release that DOHC Hemi as a "Parts Pack" deal , and cast-up a 727 as an option to go behind it ... -
Another spectacular build ! The golden era of Pro Stock (before the name became bastardised) , with Body-In-White cars . I'm sure that Dandy Dick would approve of your craftsmanship

California Flash hood needed
1972coronet replied to ratnasty's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I , too , was considering purchasing one or two of these hoods , as I want to use 'em on the AMT 1971 Duster 340 . Jeff , I too wish for you a speedy recovery . Also , please accept my most sincere condolences in regard to the loss of your father . Chuck "Rat Nasty" is a very good person to deal with in regard to buying from him . I bought two MPC 1973 Duster annuals from him last year , and the process was very easy-going ; everything was as-promised . -
Hayden Proffitt's '62 Bel Air Super Stock Drag Car
1972coronet replied to Reeves Racing's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Super Nice ! I'm always pleased when I see a vintage 1/4 Miler whose sponsors were dealerships which were close to my hometown ( Cone Chevrolet [Fullerton] , Don Steves Chevrolet [La Habra], Ricker Motors AMC [Whittier] , Bill Kraft AMC [Norwalk] , etc. ) , and your gorgeous build exemplifies this -
Loving it so far ! Perfect colour choice ; gold looks sweet on early 70's MoPar B & E bodies (certain A bodies ,too) . I don't know which set of wheels I like at this point in your progress ... Maybe once its interior and stripe combo will decide me (and you as well ...) .

Funny you should mention this , as their bolt pattern was the first thing I noticed about them ! I worked with someone whose daily driver was a 1970 Swinger 340 . He bought the car new in late '69 , and used it as his daily driver from day one . He added the Cragar S/S wheels in 1972 ; said they were difficult to find even back then ! That stupid , frustrating 5x4 bolt pattern plagued "A" bodies from their intro in 1960 , through at least 1972 (Slant Six , drum brake cars had that stupid pattern through 1975 !) , with the 1968 Hurst-Hemi twins being the only exception. Such an odd artifact that R-M would supply these exclusive-to-Chrysler-A-Bodies-bolt-pattern wheels in a Ford kit !
