  1. As absurd as this sounds , I'd rather see this swamp thing instead of another victim of Dukes of Prunes (or whatever that show was called) .
  2. I see what you're trying for here , Jantrix , and I'm digging the concept ! Tie-Dye with Liquid Gel ! Appropriate scheme for the '66 Chevelle you're working on . If I may make a suggestion ; leave the resultant paint on it , but re-dip it by using the less-water process .
  3. Bernard , that looks GREAT ! My favourite part ? The old "COX" phone number , and it's actually correct for Lawndale !
  4. I've always used Testors enamel clear over Tamiya colour coats ; the results are consistant , and best of all : no tedious colour sanding / wet sanding and polishing !
  5. Even back when these kits were new , their parts were loose ! As a kid , when these kits were new , I didn't mind the loose parts , as that only meant that I had to bother an adult that much less to cut parts for me !
  6. That's beautiful , Bogger44 ! I'm still in disbelief that Cone Chevrolet is gone (as is its in-name-only replacement) , although its building is still standing . Bill Thomas also had a dealership , in Anaheim (perhaps post-1962 ?) . Among the first to install 427's in the Camaro (late 1966). But , I divulge ... Lots of history represented here ! Excellent job , Bogger !
  7. POW !! That is the sweetest El Camino I have seen in a long time , Aksarben !!
  8. Cool ! Thanks for sharing your story and the accompanying photos ! LOVE that base interior ; those plaid inserts are too cool . Its drag-car-since-day-one history undoubtably saved its carcass from the oxidation monster known as Road Salt ! Just out of curiosity ; what's up with that radiator ? Not knocking it , I just thought your friend was going for a restoration
  9. Nifty H-Special collection you've got , Don . There must be more of these left in kit form than in 1:1 form ! It's too bad that the H-Body (Vega) and H-Special (Monza , Skyhawk , Astro , and the Oldsmobile version --can't remember its name) were engineered and built so poorly , as they really are neat little cars ! If I could truly afford to do so , I'd like to relive my youth through building one-or-more of these kits again . At one time or another , I had each and every one of the MPC Vega and other variations , none of which survived . Some day I'll find an affordable kit via ePay or where ever
  10. More often than not , I cannot stand for wheels bigger than 15" in diametre and-or rubber band tyres ; however , I saw this photo earlier and for once I found myself saying , " Whoa ! That's actually nice !". A little inspiration for the up-coming 1970 'Cuda :
  11. Current Daily Driver : 1972 Dodge Coronet (WH41G2A) My "Five Cars For Life" Choices : - 1970 Duster 340 ( 4 speed , Sure Grip added to the standard 3.23 gear , power steering , a/c , rear defogger , AM radio which would be swapped for an AM-FM from a '69 Barracuda , stripe delete , EB5 Blue with base interior in matching B5 , V02 Two Tone paint = EW1 White Painted Roof . Disc brakes are standard equipment on 340 models in 1970 ) - 1970 LS-6 Chevelle Convertible ( TH 400 , 3.55 Posi , power top , power windows , AM-FM radio , Cowl Induction. Black-on-black-on-black .) - 1970 Datsun 240-Z - 1971 Satellie ( "A38" Police Package , 383 Commando , TorqueFlite , drivers side Unity spot light , AM-FM radio , rear defogger , 15x7" H.D. wheels , EW1 White , a/c , power disc brakes ) - 1974 Datsun Pickup
  12. My user name is the year / model of my daily driver , a 1972 (Dodge) Coronet . My present avatar , as of 14-12-2012 @ 2323 HRS , is the promotional poster for the ill-fated Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable show at The Trip (a long-defunct club in Hollywood , Ca. , a couple of blocks west of the Whiskey a Go-Go) in May 1966 with the Velvet Underground & Nico ( my all-time favourite Rock band from New York ). http://youtu.be/AwzaifhSw2c
  13. MPC annual from 1967-1968 was it , unfortunately . AMT (the old , yucky RC2 predecessor to the saviour Round2) had a '68 Coronet slated , but it was ostensibly cancelled . Revell ? Round2 ? Anyone ... ? Pretty please
  14. Thanks for the in-depth examination of the kit , Chuck . One thing as a reminder to all -- myself included : in 1:1 , the wheel well arches are "generously-proportioned" ; a fact which is exasperated when normal 14x6" wheels with , say , F78 tyres ( the AAR pictured above has F60-15 and G60-15 tyres on 15x8 wheels) are seen inside those fenders ! Too bad that revell didn't mould the test shot with black interior and wheels , as that stupid grey doesn't look decent on film . Makes the roof look too-low , just like the '70 AAR from a few years ago ... On the good side , the lines look nice , crisp and very well-defined !
  15. I've said it before and I'll certainly say it again : Kevin is an absolute pleasure to buy from in every capacity ! Missing Link Resin 's parts are works of art ! Best of luck in getting your site up and running again , Kevin
  16. WOW !! I've been waiting for someone to attempt to replicate the 1971 / 1972 Valiant from "Duel" ! You gonna keep the Dart's 383 for use in the Valiant ? David Mann sure could've used at least a 340 instead of the smogged-down 225 Slant ! I'm quite looking forward to watching your progress here . And , if you need any building cues , be sure to check out 1970 Hamtramck Historical Registry . That beautiful site features original brochures and other dealer info ; it may come in handy for interior tips and whatnot . Can't wait to see how you make those exclusive-to-Plymouth , 1971-only 14" deluxe wheel covers !
  17. Cool subject Impala SS 427 ! Now , did you remember to convert the MPH speedo to KpH ? It was hard to ascertain by the photos you've provided .
  18. I'm certainly not in the minority here when I state that I cannot wait for this long-overdue subject to be released ! At a minimum , it'll best its predecessors (the original Monogram 1971 Hemi 'Cuda from 30 years ago ; the Monogram 1970 Challenger T/A of 29 years ago ; the Revell 1970 AAR 'Cuda of 17 years ago , and ; the disappointing modified reissue of the 1970 AAR 'Cuda from 5 years ago). I pointed out what potential problems I saw , in full recognition that this is a test shot . I have complete faith that Revell will only finalise their best moulds . I can't believe that this kit's destined release month is only a few months away !
  19. I don't know what to say here , Rustiacolour , other than an intial "WHOA !!" Beautiful work !! Speaking of Drag Bikes : a friend and former co-worker was telling me stories about the old Lions Drag Strip (his friend ran a Dana-prepped '67 Camaro there back in the day) , and how he ended up running *against* a home made Drag Bike in said 427 Camaro . He and his friend were in the pits , in the dark , getting the Camaro ready for its return trip home , when , as he said : " this big group of mixed-ethnicity guys were walking toward us . The guy in the middle was absolutely huge and intimidating ! The muscle-bound guy says to us , 'you wanna run your car again so that we can get some track time on our club's bike ? Y'know ; a fun run !'" . Ends up that the big dude was Big Willie Robinson and the Brotherhood of Los Angeles Street racers . So , the Camaro lined-up against the bike , and when the green dropped , the bike hauled fanny and was scary ! I can only imagine how much fun racing was in those days , seeing early drag bikes running at the same time as questionably-streetable cars ! Beautiful work there , Rustiacolour
  20. Hmm ... sounds like a plan . I thought that those engines looked like chopped W-Engines , but had no idea that they were based upon the tooling of the 348 (ad seq.).
  21. That's one "Boss" Baron ! Looks like someone Vandal-ised a kit for its engine and transmission .
  22. I wonder if someone could "photoshop" the photo of the test shot and colourise it ... To me , I see the following *potential* problems : - The exterior mirrors' location and proportions ( too small and sit too-high-and-far-rearward on the door ) ; - The front sidemarker lamp looks too long (exaggerated proportions) ; - The windshield looks too flat and undersized , and ; - The seats look too thick . Like Casey mentioned : the monotone gray in combination with the blue background and the lighting all add-up to visual "trickery" .
  23. Agent G - The AMT 1971 Charger chassis would be right for a 1971 & later Coronet / Charger / Road Runner / Satellite (and 1970 - 1974 Barracuda / Challenger as well ) , as the Roscoe's Ramp Jumper (or whatever it's called) is a B-Body Monaco . The wheelbase is a *bit* different ; just adjust the rear axle to re-centre it to its proper spot . Also , if the Charger's 8.75" diff "bothers" you (1974 was the last year for the 8.75" rear) , then perhaps either a Dana 44 (close enough) or Chrysler 9.25" (resin-cast I believe ...) is in order . I have always despised the "Country-Wide" wheels and tyres in the MPC (et al.) Monaco "A38" kits !!!
  24. Nice work , Michigan Madman ( Iggy Pop ? George Clinton ? Rob Tyner ? Whose title is that again ? ) . Looks righteous ; very convincing ! I really like that STP decal ... Its application here reminds me of the cars in the junkyard scenes in Psych-Out , and the allusion to the "other form" of STP .
  25. I've always been fascinated by the GMC V6's (305/351c.i.d.) and the truly odd Twin-Six (702 c.i.d.) , and am wondering if anyone makes one or both of these neat looking engines in 25th scale . I'd like to build the Tom Daniel's "S'Cool Bus" with a Twin-Six in-place of the kit's engines ; I'd like to add a couple of 6-71 blowers atop as well . Also , if anyone's made their own 305/351 or 702 Twin-Six out of scratch materials or modified from an existing kits' engines , please feel free to post pics of them here .
