Ed Roth's '56 Ford Pick-up by Revell
1972coronet replied to Austin T's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Concept-wise , that '56 F-100 was ahead of its time . The box art always intrigued me ; the first one I ever bought was the early 70's reissue (the blue one) . I don't recall ever finishing it ; probably gave it to my neighbour . I tried again when the Big Ten was issued ; failed miserably again . By the time of the Street Demons release (circa 1983) , I was again tempted by its box art . It just looked so awesome ! That was the last time I bought one , as I was so turned off by its overkill application of chrome plating (a Revell and MPC issue at the time !) , and by its raked bed , that I just boxed it up and forgot about it ... until the 1987 earthquake . When the 1995-ish issue was restored to its 1962 origins ( with , at last , those stock wheels with hub caps) made it tough for me to pass on trying the kit again ! Still apprehensive ! Thanks for the cool retro review , Casey -
...Than there's the 1958-1964 four bolt valve cover retainers ... "B" Engine Family 1958 = 350 and 383 1959-1971 = 361 (through 1966) and 383 1972-1978 = 400 "RB" ( Raised-deck B-engine) Family 1959 = 413 1962 = 426-W 1966 = 440 ( only HP engine was the 365hp Chrysler "T-N-T" ) 1967-1978 = 440 HP "Gen 3" Hemi 1964 = 426 Hemi 1966-1971 = Street Hemi

Turbo-Hydramatic 400 (whose is best ?)
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thank you one and all for your replies and the links . I'm surprised at how inexpensive these parts are , espcially considering their quality . Thanks again -
Chief Joseph - Your work never ceases to amaze me , and these new tyres are no exception . I must inquire , however , about the sidewall detail of the Eagle VR50 ; weren't those letters recessed on the "1:1" version ? I'm definitely not bringing this up as to bust your chops , especially in a public forum . Matter of fact , I hope that I am wrong . Now , how about some Good Year Wingfoot replicas ? They were popular in the late 70's ; their sidewall markings were really cool , too . Keep up the grear work , bradah

I'm thinking that Round2 should've added a disc brake master cylinder , too .

I'm looking for the best TH 400 in resin ; whose resin replica fits that need ? I'm going to convert my '69 "COPO" Nova to a L-92 ( aluminum head 375 hp 396 ) model , but I want a TH behind it (think : SS/DA) . With that in mind , I'm also going to either convert it to a column-shift or make my own Dual-Gate shifter console ; not sure yet . Which kit(s) have an automatic column that'll fit the Nova ? Please provide links . Thanks !

In addition to fixing the other aforementioned inaccuracies in this (20+ years old) kit , here's a few other "issues" : - That ugly battery - The subsized Dana 60 - Horrid wheels (barfy back in '90 , and even uglier today !) Oh , well ... at least it is a good candidate for the sum of its parts for use in other kits

Kits of cars that never were
1972coronet replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The only phantom kit which I can think of wasn't a full kit , but rather its engine : the inclusion of the old Nash 287 / 327 V8 in the 1966 & later Jo-Han AMC kits ! -
Kits of cars that never were
1972coronet replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That 1971 Road Runner / phantom Superbird needs to be reissued in its original Annual guise (restore the tooling for the Cragar S/S wheels , etc.) but with the nice new tyres (how about some pad printed whitewall tyres for these pre-1974 MPC kits ?). The 1973-1974 Charger annual is another one which needs to be restored / reissued , but with factory stock Rallye decals ! Go ahead an add the Zinger parts back into the reissue ; that station wagon phantom looks too cool ! -
Motion Performance --under the direction of Joel Rosen-- built their cars on an as-ordered basis , particularly their "Phase III" builds . Not sure if Motion built any X-bodies ; I'll have to defer to Martyn Schorr's book when it arrives in the mail .

1970 Chevy Monte Carlo Fast and Furious
1972coronet replied to 75th Ranger's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Certainly I'm not alone in stating the following : Please restore this once-great stock SS-454 kit to its origins , Round2 . "Retro Deluxe" packaging (via the original AMT Annual of the '70 Monte) would be sweet ! -
Thank you , Lee . I certainly remember your beautiful Iron Duke Nova build ! One of the finest conversions I've seen to date :) . Your green SS 350 doesn't look too bad , either ! Nice clean construction ; quite easy on ones eyes . _____________________________________________________ I just realised that the COPO version is sans the SS hood . Guess it's back to building it as a COPO (not a bad thing) , but perhaps I'll convert it to an auto (T.H. 400) on the column , just like the Dick Harrell SS/EA Novas !
-
I just bought the now-old-news 1969 COPO Nova , and boy am I freakin' impressed with its contents !! While I already was obviously aware of its L-72 goodness , what I wasn't aware of was the kit's inclusion of 396 Super Sport "options" ! Okay , maybe I'm getting ahead of my-self ... I'm not overly familiar with the nuances of the '69 X-body ; was the SS available with a bench seat ? As you can tell , I'm wanting to build an L-78 375 hp 396 version , if that's "possible" (i.e. , is a factory stock replica possible with the provided parts ?) . In the meantime ; please share your builds of this kit here ! Would like some inspiration !
-
Thanks for the info , Mark . That stock '71 Cyclone would have been SWEET !! I wonder if any tooling exists for the supposed-to-be-all-new-tooling Coronet ? Then again , if Round2 had access to any of the alleged tooling , I'm certain that they'd have at least alluded to it by now ...

Every so often , I hear the rumbllings of a proposed-but-then-cancelled 1968 Coronet R/T (or was it a Super Bee ?) that was slated for ca.2004 release under the AMT (et al.) banner . My question is , were any test shots released ?
-
Kari ; let me recommend the following kits and their respective parts : - AMT 1971 Charger R/T (for its TorqueFlite automatic transmission , dual snorkle air cleaner , and power brake booster / master cylinder) - AMT 1971 Duster 340 (for its close-enough-to-a-360 engine (change oil pan to the truck / van style) Mate the engine from the Duster to the Transmission of the Charger , paint the appropriate colours , and have fun !

Mike , that is one spectacular 1976 Granada !! The 'Magnum 500' wheels look spot-on . I've wanted one of the Monarch kits since they were new !! In spring , 1976 , my parents bought a new 1976 Monarch 2 door ( Ghia 'package' , 351W two barrel , A/C , etc. , etc. ) . It was silver metallic with a silver 1/4 vinyl top , and 'cranberry' red bucket / console interior . The dealership had those Lindberg Monarch kits available through thier parts department ( almost 40 years later , and I can still see that display behind the parts counter !!). I wanted one in the worse way . My pleas and beggings went unrequited ( ). Now , it's on the "the 'bay" , in search of one of these 32nd scale Monarchs !
-
Then there's the kit's life-long powertrain-drivetrain mismatch goof : Hemi / 4-speed / 8.75" rear is wrong !! Should either have a TorqueFlite or a Dana 60 ; the '60 was behind every 440 / 440+6 / Hemi when the 4-speed was optioned ; the 8.75" rear was the standard diff behind most 440 / 440+6 (excepting the special 1969 lift-off fibreglass Road Runner and Super Bee , where the 4.10 was the only diff). In short ; the Sox & Martin 1967 "RO23J" kit has the incorrect differential ; it should be a Dana 60 .
-
Rick , are you going to make this into a Barracuda or its performance-oriented brother , the 'Cuda ? I , for one , would like to see it transform into a Barracuda replica ( flat hood , turn-down exhaust tips , plain fenders , etc.) , but with the top engine option for that model : 383 Commando . I'm looking forward to following your WIP

I certainly hope that Revell , et al. , are paying attention to this thread , and the threads just like it ... *cough* new *cough* Chevelle *cough* please
-
Without any knowledge of kit numbers , all that I can do is describe the box art through the kit's run : 1.) 1981 issue . No optional parts . Moulded in orange . 2.) 1985 reissue . Optional tunnel ram induction , Shelby wheels , and some other options . Moulded in white . The 1985 version has been reissued numerous times in its 28 year (!!) guise (which reminds me that I must get my hands on one of these kits again !). I hope that this info was of some help to you

So long as it's as close to the 'prosaic' truth as possible ! I'm certain that Big's life story needs absolutely zero embellishment . I've said it before and I'll say it again : Big Willie was much more of a community leader than any of the fledgling "leaders" (whose names shall be left to the imagination) . He not only talked-the-talk , he also walked-the-walk , and he remained an absolute gentleman in the process .

Gary , that is one super nice Chevelle ! I believe that the original silver that was employed by Chevrolet on that year A-Body was 'Cortez Silver' . It's been my number one fave colour on '68-'72 Chevelles / Malibus since 1981 , when I used to see a 1970 SS-454 El Camino pass me on my way to school . I saw that El every day from 1981 - 1986 ! Keep up the spectacular work , Gary
