That R.R. / GTX's high sequence number (105344) is a bit of a surprise , as 5,000+ cars later is definitely out of the Pilot Build period . I wonder what its scheduelled build date is , and if it jibes with the build sheet(s) ; even better would be an original window sticker (the repros don't list the car's *actual* build date) ! I'm sure that this goes without saying ; how many Six Pack / 6 Bbl 1972 R.R.'s / Rallye Chargers have you replicated , using the MPC annuals as the basis ?

Chris , thank you for your detailled reply . I wonder -and I know that you can answer this for me , judging by your collection- if the R.R.'s interior tub was retooled for the rare , mid-1971-release GTX ; that may explain the upgraded door panels in the 1987 reissue (and perhaps the 1972 annual as well). Check one of your original-issue 1971 'Runner annuals for its door panel inscriptions (ha!) to see if the 'panels are similar to the Monogram 1971 "Satellite" (whose door panels are of the R.R. pattern) . It's good to know that the MPC's tub will fit-over the AMT Charger's platform . I just can't bring myself to build my R.R. in its "out-of-box" state ! That bland engine compartment with its squared shear panels and its 1966 & earlier type brake master cylinder ; that lack of cowl is a sore point as well . It's too bad that I haven't the skills to scratch-bash a correct front bench seat for my '71 R.R. ... But , then again , I may just bite the bullet and utilise the whole interior from the Charger (minus the distinctive '71-'72 Charger interior C-pillar sail panels) . I'm not going for a factory-stock build anyhow ; and further , I may even swap the AMT '71 340 / 4 speed into my 'Runner , complete with Six Barrel induction ( ). Thanks again , Chris and Charles

That is one very nice 1967 Charger , nutboltu ! When I first read the title of your posting here "Envy Green" , I immediately thought of the 1968 Charger in this photograph ; its name is ,"Green With Envy" , an A/Gas competitior whose origins are from Mr. Norms Grand-Spaulding Dodge (Chicago , Illinois , USA) . Your Charger also reminds me of the 1966 Charger Show Car from 1966 . Very nice work you have accomplished here !

After more than twenty years , I finally got me a coveted , 1987-issue MPC 1971 Road Runner . I have see a couple of examples -fine , wonderful examples- of bashing the AMT 1971 Charger R/T with the 1973-1974 MPC Road Runner , and am now wondering how many of you have utilised the aforementioned Charger with the 1971 R.R. Obviously , the Charger has a different interior ; door panels and upholstery pattern are vastly different from the same year R.R. , albeit , with the same Rallye Instrument clustre (steering wheel , too). What I'm attempting to ascertain here : What would be the best approach to interface the R.R.'s interior door panels with the Charger's chassis ? How about the R.R.'s seats -actually , just the rear seat- to the Charger's platform ? Please provide photos / technique(s) , if possible . Thanks !

From my recollection , there were four built , and perhaps 2-3 which are documented . Last I'd checked , an FE5 Rallye Charger 440 Six Pack (WH23V2) was undergoing a solid resto . I don't even see a decal ( ) , what am I missing ? I do recognise a beautiful charcoal-colour paint job with a miles-deep finish ; I can only assume that the 'decal' is the tail-end of a silver-ish scallop , forward of the door , below the cowl ... I'm with the others ; looks "good enough" to me .

Chrysler had a sales code for "not recommended" colour combinations : "V09" (typically , any "9" suffix = Special Order ; conversely , any "8" suffix = Delete ; e.g. , "V88" = Delete GTS / Swinger tail stripe) . Combinations of , say , EV2 with a Saddle Tan interior and a V1W top would solicit a "V09" on the fender tag . "V4_ " , was another rare option available on the Barracuda (BH) and 'Cuda (BS) models . I've seen : V4M ( Magenta ) V4W (White) V4G ( Green ) The colour quickly faded out from these stripes , turning them to their white base colour (!) . Additionally , remaining "Mod Top" vinyl top material was "reconstituted" for the 1971 Imperial . The material was redyed in Burgandy ; and in climates such as the southwest , the burgandy very quickly bleached-out , thereby revealling the floral origins ! Few survive to this day ... Another consideration regarding the colour-availablity of the Shaker just may be related to the plants' outside suppliers . Remember , the E-bodies were built in two plants in 1970 : Los Angeles (hartops only , and no Hemi models) as well as Hamtramck (both bodystyles , all engines). Perhaps the L.A.-built cars with Shakers were sourced from a supplier whom accommodated EB5-painted Shakers ? I'll get into the California-specific exhaust when someone mentions a 440 Six Barrel conversion of this kit ...

... and 1969-1970 "B5" is a different shade than 1971-ca.1974 "B5" . 1969-1970 = EB5 1971-1974 = GB5 The first letter indicates the year of the respective colours' model year release ( e.g. , "E" = 1969 , and "G"= 1971 , et seq. ) . The first letter was changed only if the colour was reformulated (and it would appear that "_B5" was reformulated a number of times throughout its life !) Conversely , some colours were never reformulated ; let's take Hemi Orange / Tor-Red for an instance : its paint code was always "EV2" , and it was available from 1969-1972 .

Slick salespeople with their kiosk cologne and genuine roach skin shoes , appealling to a techno-driven , age 40 & younger market , whose primary interest is , "Can I voice-text my future-ex girlfriend with this 'Witcha-didya' , while jammin' out to Robyn Thicke's latest jam "Twerkin' for the Troops" , while sippin' on my mixed cafe drink and scoffing at the guy next to me whose Marlboro Red smoke is being filtred-through the cabin air filtre ?" . That is why so many were "sold" (most-likely , an "incredible lease offer" ) . How else could these magnified-beach-bathroom-gnat things seem *appealling* ?

There must be a "think tank" of 10 year old boys who've designed the Cube and Juke ( what the deuce is a "Juke" anyhow ? A contraction of "Junk" and "Puke" ??) . A retro-esque 510 would be great ! They'd probably sell a million of 'em within the first year ! So long as the engine is mounted in the correct layout (e.g. , front engine / rear drive) ... I despise CVT transmissions ! The theory behind their operation is fine ; I just prefer to feel the transmission go through its gears (think: firm shifts , respective to the vehicles' intended purpose). And , I certainly hope that , as you've surmised , Nissan decides to launch a Scion-type line . I rather enjoy the "K.I.S.S. Prinicpal" , especially in regard to vehicles ! You can keep your stupid touch screens and cameras !

I agree with this assertion as well . Clear is truly the only way to fly ; the reds and ambres can be painted on both sides in order to create colour-depth . I absolutely despise chrome or solid-red tail lamps (or any "lense" for that matter --- case-in-point : the original Monogram 1971 HemiCuda ! Chromed parking lamps ?!? Arrrrgh !) . 'Clear' should be the rule as opposed to the exception ( ) . Okay , so for this kit , I'm going to bite the (plastic) bullet and {{{grumble}}} paint the back-up lamps with pearl white (*sigh*)

YES ! Clear-red tail lamps , but with separately-cast clear back-up lamps ! ( I hope that you're reading this , Kevin ...) Another sweet idea would be the W11 "Turbine" wheel covers . Yes , they were only in 14" wheel varity (e.g. , not *correct* for a HemiCuda and its 15" wheels) , and would be perfect for versions of this kit converted to 340 , 383 , 440 Super Commado or 440+6 replicas (or even for 225 /6 and 318 and 383 two barrel Barracuda or Gran Coupe conversions).

My thought exactly , Tim ! Paint it in a similar fashion to how the factory painted the so-called "Bumblebee (et al.) Stripes" on the 1970 Challenger ; first the stripe / stripes' colours were painted , then masked off , and then the car's body colour was painted . ( I am in no way kidding about this process , either ! The factory actually painted the painted-on stripes using this procedure ! )

Yeah , they're the typical Revell 426 Hemi valve covers . That ridiculous looking sideways-mounted two dimensional breather makes about as much sense as the moulded-to-the-windshield interior rear view mirror on the 1988-issue AMT '66 Nova ! I'm gonna use the M/T 'covers from Scenes Unlimited http://www.scenesunltd.com/

The one thing that's bothered me about the MPC Dodge Pickups -and the Little Red Express in particular- is the engine ! It's MPC's generic Chrysler B / RB engine , couplled by the 833 New Process 4-speed . The Li' Red was only available with the E58 360 / A-727-A LoadFlite / 9.25" rear . Good to hear that BNL Resins offers nice parts and good service . I just bought one of BNL's Torqueflites (A-727) and their TH 400 (for a conversion for Revell's 1969 Nova 'COPO') .

California Emissions Package engine ? ( ) . whenever I hear "doggy performance" , I automatically think , Must be a California-spec engine ! Sounds like these carburetted 262's had the obscure "Dual-jet" ; they looked like the Qudrajet at first blush , but were actually a 2 Bbl !

BTW , the one which I ordered (online) less than a week ago arrived today ! I just opened it about 10 minutes ago ; so far , I am in love with this long-awaited gem ! I haven't been able to thoroughly peruse its contents yet . It's 1740 HRS here ; and due to the combination of my myopic 43 year old eyes , poor lighting , and the tremblling excitement of a 10 year old (don't want to accidently break any of the kit's contents !). My only beefs so far : - Chrome instead of Clear tail lamp lenses ( I was already aware of this ) - I wasn't impressed with how the decals were *arranged* in the box , sitting as they were pressed-against one of the verticle ends of the box's insides . No kinks , mind you ; just a slight concave was the result . And , no , these definitely did not detract from the overall 'fun' of checking out the first all-new Barracuda kit in decades !

I agree completely . The black with B5 blue interior combo is definitely unique . Before I ever saw a photo of a car in that combo my first thought was , How gross ! But when I finally saw one coloured as such ( a 1968 or 1969 Coronet R/T , if I remember correctly ...) , I was plesantly surprised . Great work , Tim !
