  1. I agree with Joe . Just be sure to spray the WD-40 onto a rag or strong paper towel , and not directly on the surface of the kit . Another product to try : H2O2 (a/k/a , Hydrogen Peroxide) .
  2. The name "EXP" has always reminded me of that Jimi Hendrix Experience song from "Axis : Bold As Love" (1968) .
  3. Quite simply : 1.) More weight . I can gaurantee that my 2013 Civic weighs more than my 1972 Coronet (4 door , small V8 , 100% Detroit steel ) ! The ridiculous number of Air Bags (or "SRS" as they're called now) plus all of the computer and electronic garbage = 4,000 lb subcompact cars (!!). 2.) Ethanol-Infused gasolines . Less available BTU's = more wasted energy (think : mediocre MPG's from Natural Gas vehicles) . Not to mention the hygroscopic properties of Ethanol-Infused gasolines** ; the stuff's instable as heck ! So , a 1976 Feather Duster with an "archaic" single-barrel atomiser , 3-speed-with-overdrive manual trans , 2.76 gear , all-steel construction , etc. , etc. averaged 32-35 MPG !! When driven easy , 36-40 MPG was possible (!!). Best average MPG my brand new Civic has achieved : 30 MPG ! And I drive it with the "eco" doo-hickey activated , and like there's a rotten egg under the gas pedal (except on Acceleration Ramps to the expressways ; but even then , I don't mash the pedal ...) . So , yeah ... Navigation , 333 Disc C.D. Players , and not an ashtray to be found ... ** I envy those of you who reside in locales which are either exempt from witches' brew fuels , or have 93 octane gas sans Ethanol ...
  4. 91% ... mostly from dyslexic choices . Fun game !
  5. Better than Timothy Leary Tangerine !
  6. Even the Retro-Deluxe box art / packaging that Round2 has invented works on my psyche ! As mediocre as the 1968 Road Runner is , its retro box art makes it tough to refuse ! Being that I'm a visual artist , the obvious visual "curb appeal" of the R.R.'s retro art keeps pulling me toward it . Truly , before I was hip to the Retro-Deluxe idea , I honestly believed that the 1960 Starliner box art was , indeed , a reprint of the original (!!) . It was that convincing ! Furthermore ; the almost-exact box art of the old MPC annuals is tantillising ! Sames goes for the old AMT annuals ('76 Gremlin , etc.) . On the opposite end of the spectrum ; the hideous , unimaginative box art from the dreaded RC2 era kits actually has driven me away from buying some of those kits ! That art was extremely unflattering , to say the very least !
  7. <--- "60" and "215" shields are greenouts over "US 60" and "US 395" .

  8. Excellent pipes ; however , the ones in the kit you're referring to represent the functional versions as found on B-M cars of that era . They're connected directly-to the "x" headers ; no muffling what-so-ever ( ) . IIRC , practically every version of the AMT Chevy Van series has "fakie" side pipes ( or , "Show Pipes" , et al. ) .
  9. I like the idea of installing an SHO engine in the tiny Escort EXP ! Personally , I'd do it like the Renault R5 Rallye Turbo ; rear-mount (mid-mount , technically ?) and all . In the 'real' world , an SHO engine mounted in-place of the stock powerhouse I-4 would turn that EXP into a pretzel instantly !
  10. The 1984 Corvette "Golden Anniversary" kit that I bought had a partial-imprint on its backlight . Grumph !
  11. So , how'd you do on Crossbay and Connecting ?
  12. Nice '71 phantom SuperBird !
  13. This kit has been around in various guises since around '62 or so . Other than box art changes and redesigned decals , little else has changed ; perhaps just its custom wheels and tyres ! The optional DeSoto Fire Dome Hemi builds-up nicely ; it has two induction options ! The stock L-Head V8 --1953 was its last year-- is pretty nice as well , Pros : - Building options - Easy assembly - Gads of accessories - Moulds / tooling have survived very well over the kit's lifetime - Easily-detailled dash board Cons : - The aforementioned dashboard-to-windshield fitment - Faint interior door panel "details" , moulded-in - Rear bumper fitment is *trying* - "F-100" hood emblems are easily buried under layers of primer / paint / clear (foil impressions can be helpful here) Verdict : A gem of a kit whose time has come again ; time for Round2 to reissue this beauty ! - -
  14. "When you're driving in your Chevy , and you feel something heavy ..." Many of these bloopers are due to the poor translation between practically every foreign language and just about every dialect of the English language (including -but not limited to- regional dialect). The English language , by nature , is a slang language ; then one factors-in contractions ( e.g. , "can't" versus "can not" ). Also , Japanese is quite literal in its practise . As far as I'm aware , no "swear" words exist in Japanese (!) , only slang-applications (or , double-entendres if you prefer). Never-the-less , these bloopers are quite humourous !
  15. - "Pontica" GTO (the horrid years of RC2 ; "reprint" of the 1980's MPC issue of the 1967 GTO). - "Wild" Bill Strawberry (meant to read " Shrewsberry ") on the instruction sheet for the original issue of the Revell 1969 Dart GTS 383 . These same instructions also mentioned "Kick" Landy ! I can't recall where I read this classic Shakesphere-esque line , but it was mentioned in some instructions for some item : " To be remove , is to be install . Noble in it's use ."
  16. I just received --well , a couple of days ago-- the Gibson Dodge / Plymouth 1968-1971 340 , and my first thought upon viewing its contents was , Wow ! Gibson paid attention to the subtle details to this "Baby Hemi" engine ; to wit : - Both water pumps are included ( 1968-1969 with the lower hose attachment on the driver's side ; and the 1970 & later pump with the attachment on the passenger's side !) - Pre-mid-1972 900 oil filtre mount - Both red and Orange "Pie Tin" engine size callouts - Carter AVS atomiser - Pre-1972 alternator ("Round Back") "Questionable" inclusions ? - Exhaust manifolds . The ones in the kit are 1968-1970 'A'-Body-specific parts . For *whatever* reason , Chrysler changed the passenger's side manifold to an inferior "Log" type ; the 'B' and 'E' bodies retained the 1970 style. - Air cleaner is 1968-1969 only . - Valve covers appear to be 1970 & later versions (breather and PCV were 'reassigned' for the 1970 model year , due to evapourative emissions regulations) Even with the "rivet-counter" points , this engine is one which comes highly recommended . The year-to-year changes are simple to adapt ; intake from the AMT '71 Duster may fit (to adopt the Carter ThermoQuad , or perhaps the Six Barrel induction) , and ; the air cleaner from the same Duster will probably also work for 1970-1971 applications. Kudos to Gibson for this gorgeous replica of one of the "Junior Supercar" era engines !
  17. Mike - You certainly did that kit some justice ! Great work ; love that colour combo
  18. And why not ? Lord knows that the interior / upholstery materials and colours were , in es , Taxi *quality* (rubber mats , plain seats and door panels , etc.) . Personally , I rather enjoy that plain interior to the upgrade(d) Satellite / GTX appointments
  19. Isn't it funny that Jack Werst [sp] was Chrysler's Warranty Representative ! His cars' nomenclature was , "Mr. 5 & 50 "
  20. Ray Allen's SS/E(A) was thee car to pursue ! Funny thing about the shipping-weight "fudging" : Chrysler increased the shipping-weight for their 1971 (Barra)Cuda convertible , so that it'd fit-squarely into SS/E(A) , specifically targeting Allen's elusive 1970 Chevelle LS-6 convertible (!!) . The 1970 'Cuda drop-top weighed "less" , so it was placed in SS/D(A) . EDIT : I should specify that the shipping weight for the (Barra)Cuda drop-top was the HemiCuda weight . I have no clue as to whether or not the 440 Six Barrel model had its weight "fudged" as much as the Hemi-equipped model .
  21. Splendid 'riders , GeeTee66 ! I don't find the wheels *offencive* (ha ha ha) . I'd love to see your '58 and '59 Chevies . My "criteria" is directed at , not the year of the vehicle , but the era of customisation .
  22. I'm pretty sure that Sox & Martin ran one of the mid-1969 440 6Bbl cars (the one with the Edelbrock intake , Holley 2300's , 4.10 Dana , fibreglass hood , etc.) . Not sure if it was a factory-produced RM23M9A or if it was a Body-In-White with all of the Six Barrel stuff ; but , something tells me that it was a factory-produced car , as it ran in SS/D , IIRC ...
  23. The car in question is a Mr. Norms 1971 Demon GSS 340 Six Pack ( or , according to the 'generic' air cleaner bestowed-upon the trio of Holley 2300's , "Tri-Power" ) . It's an alleged factory goof ; EB7 Blue with Red / Orange plaid base-model bench seat interior . I believe that it also had the standard 3-speed manual (floor shift) , rubber mats , and the Super Performance Axle Package (3.91 gear with Sure-Grip , and H.D. Cooling) . Its interior was original , but the plaid inset was faded (Sun-Bleached , as we call it here in the Southwest U.S.) on one side ! That Demon GSS is a head scratcher , for sure . All of Norms cars were built-to-specific-order (i.e. , customer specified options and whatnot , and the Norms crew would modify the engine , etc.) , so who knows ? I always thought that it looked good , personally ! I'd have ordered one similar to that : dark blue metallic with the orange / red plaid base interior (but with either a 4-speed or a column-shift TorqueFlite) . Chrysler would build a car to customer's specs , regardless of how potentially "gross" the combo was . There were exceptions , however , and those were limited mostly to engine / transmission choices : - Hemi or 440 with a 3-speed manual - Dana with any engine smaller than the 440 HP - A/C with multi-carb induction ; gearing numerically-higher than 3.23 ; 440-4 with 4-speed , and ; any vehicle with the Dana 60 , regardless of transmission .
  24. That's a super Bomb , Richard ! I'm trying to place the demographic for this style ; it's a bit different from the West Coast style Lowrider that I'd see in my youth . Very cool ! Let's keep 'em coming here , guys !
