  1. im getting more info from the guy as far as detail goes. its the first time i have ever been asked to build for money. he is not a friend nor family. he's a guy on a 1:1 car forum that wants to give it as a gift. i am assuming to the owner of the car in question. i have built some in the past for gifts. but to charge someone, never. i understand that there are many variables to it, but didnt realize how many. i guess im really gonna have to think about it. virgil: you made me lean more towards "dont do it" im still young i guess. but i do understand about mixing money and things you love to do. it can get fustrating. its one reason i didn't pursue becoming a full time mechanic. i love to work on cars, but when money became involved, i just hated it. this is another factor im going to think about. thanks guys, every opinion counts. good or bad
  2. hey guys, now, as my title states. what would someone start charging to build a model? i know detail is important, but there really isnt much to the kit and so far just sounds like he wants a replica of what it looks like, not so much like chassis and suspension details.(im getting more info on that) i was just asked if i could build a model of a corolla. itll be curbside, but would i have to scratch build a few parts to match it to the 1:1. most likely will have to use a set of aftermarket wheels in my stash and of course the painting and so on. but how do you justify scratch building and putting wheels that are currently super hard to get?? any help would be great. luis
  3. this is a sweet looking build. surfer hearse it the better idea.
  4. now thats a sweet rat. the floor and tunnel are a great detail added. really cool
  5. bumping this up. i got my procharger a couple weeks back along with some turbos and fuchs wheels. excellent casting and nicely detailed. fantastic service as well. now, to only figure out which car i want to use the procharger on??..
  6. hey guys, i picked up a flyer at the citrus nationals. it's a so cal NNL in chatsworth, ca. the theme is lowrider and indy/open wheel racers. anyone one going or has been to this show?? i wanted to see what its about. can't seem to find info other than whats on the flyer. other than that i would have to join another forum just to ask this question.
  7. i was there this year, it was pretty cool. ill be there next year. here are some pics i took. wish i couldve taken more, but my battery was low. http://s958.photobucket.com/albums/ae61/trd4agcoupe/3rd%20anual%20citrus%20nationals%203-26-11/
  8. my wife once said i was a hoarder in denial. then i said to her "well hun, so are you with your collection of purses" since that day, it's been like, "if you want it and have the money to buy it, then do it if it makes you happy" wow i thought it was a lie, now at around 30+ kits in my stash and counting. she still hasn't told me to stop. i see it more like this. we are collectors with intentions to build, sell, trade or even give out as a gift. some kits i have had for about 10 years now, not long for most. there are kits in my stash that would never trade, but if the day came that i had to sell them, i would. ill be leaving a price for every kit for my wife to sell if paydirt comes some day. even if im only turning 30 in may, you never know right?? i have the intention of building all of my kits. no matter the rarity of them, they will get built by either me or either/both of my kids if they wish to do so.
  9. here are some of my latest buys, wins and a trade.
  10. i like low and mean looking camaro's. looks great bud.
  11. congrats on your first try. you did great! once you do more, you'll find your own way of applying it.
  12. i have only gone to 2 model car shows. i too bumped into guys like this. they don't really bother me, but it would be nice to not be treated like im bothering them. what really sucks, it's mostly the guys that belong to a club that act like their you know what don't stink. i took my wife and she could also see which ones they were and you know what, she was right every time. dave cruz of redlands ca, is one guy i met. super cool cat. he had some builds that won and is also a vendor. but non of that mattered, he was just cool as ice to this first time participator.
  13. that is one slick nova. love every detail about it. would love to have one like this in my garage
  14. thanks big greg. it had to be said and it needs to stop. well back to the subject on hand, PIPES.. yup, all toyota engines. even the v8..
  15. looks great. did you make the roll cage? gotta say, revel did a better job on the subi than it did with the civics and mitusbishi.
  16. LMAO those are some serious pipes!!! lols bajaboy: the term ricer is not directed to people, just cars. it's not a "racist" term. that is something that has been discussed a billion times on many forums. i know plenty of full, half, quarter asians and non of them get offended by this term. its not in lines of.... well, you know the terminology that really should offend you.
  17. i understand where your coming from mike and i also understand where greg and others are coming from as well. but this is a no win situation for either side. just keep this on subject and keep calm. heres my second or third gen TRD N1 replica header. got it from the guy i bought my car from.
  18. greg: i agree with you. culture is getting tossed in here as opposed to technology and actual purpose. nothing wrong since the title just says "check out these pipe" i like some of the boso cars, its different, but don't agree with the actual "life style". opinions are opinions and i guess it depends on how people take it. i guess feelings get tossed into it and all hell breaks loose. stay calm guys, their just cars. heres a couple more with purpose. to keep the thread going.
  19. dont listen to wiki. it doesnt get it right. here was a discussion that was had on a forum. you gotta pay attention to the guys that LIVE in japan. http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=86567 sorry, i have no pics of actual pipes on this comp. but i have some in scale that replicate 1:1's
  20. looks fantastic. reminds me of one i saw while taking my kids to the park. keep it going.
  21. man! you beat me to it. i was about to post this link. we were discussing about getting original(era correct) looking plates for our 1:1 cars and this site was used as a reference and as soon as i clicked on it to check it out. bam! it came to me to use it for our hobby. i already had saved some up for a thread i was going to make up.
  22. moparfarmer: i agree with you on the paints. duplicolor and plastikote are great. but, what happened in japan isn't the only thing that affect prices. price of oil also have to do with it. as it goes up, so does everything that needs it does as well. heck, even co2 (fizzy stuff for your sodas and other stuff) companies and distributors are gonna get affected as well. theres a shortage on it as well and prices have gone up already. <(i work at a welding supply store) no one can completely blame japan for this.
  23. hey jimmy, heres another compliment that means a load. of course all are greatly appreciated. i got the piping figured out now. hope to see something pop out from both you and greg soon. some more later
