Round 2 March 2017 Product Spotlight
niteowl7710 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well that has been Round2's business plan for almost a decade now. -
I'm definitely in for the "revamp" DS21 kit, and I'll tackle people to the front of the line for a Safari...

Been doing a little flogging of the Japanese Secondary resale market...

To make August, they'd have to official announce the kit and put it for Pre Order in fairly short order. Based on the time line of the just announced MP4/31 Late Season F1 kit and the HY "Crepemobile" (it's the yellow one peeking out of the corner of the picture) being available for Pre Order and they have release dates of July right now.
-
MSRP at Stevens is $23.95 for it, so that's the correct price.

Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
niteowl7710 replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well then maybe they should have bought one when it came out. If there are still dozens of them floating around at this point in 1st line retail sales (Hobby Lobby, LHS, etc) then clearly the buying frenzy wasn't to the point where people were lined up outside of their local vendors like they were 14 y/o girls buying N'Sync tickets. Don't give me the financial sob story either, the '30 Ford was known about - thanks to the newspaper article about Revell where the mock-up was sitting in the background - for almost a year before it came out. Then there was over a 3 month warning on the basis of the quarterly flyer. If you couldn't scrape together the $22 over the course of 3-12 months, then frankly you probably don't need to have ANY hobby. This relentless - "Oh it'll be cheaper later" bit a bunch of you on the backside. -
This reissue gets you an entire second engine (not just the intakes, but a whole block and everything) that none of the other kits have, so you do get some parts box fodder if nothing else. And while there are a glut of these kits in their various boxings on eBay at and shows, the kit Round2 did (I just looked at mine) was done in 2008. 9 years seems like a reasonable amount of times between reissues, especially considering this is a particularly nice kit IMHO...

Ghost Kits - Shown But Never Released
niteowl7710 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah the current HiLux Surf and Terrano make no mentions of the LHD stuff, but it's still in there. The ETV Series was all of their "SUVs" - I put that in quotes because the RAV4 and CRV are in there too - that they put roof lights and brush guards and all sorts of other ridiculous "off road" parts into...which made them "tuned" and "exciting". Those kits were later all reboxed into a series called "The RV"...cause their idea of a Recreational Vehicle and ours, are a wee bit different. -

The "4Runner" (aka HiLux Surf) should also have a styrene LHD dashboard as did the Nissan "Pathfinder" (Terrano), as the kits still carry them, American SATCO just provided the U.S. Spec decals (4Runner/Pathfinder). -
I believe it does indeed come with wheels and brakes amongst other things. But there's no updating of anything for 2016, they've decided to go with making the "most accurate" 2015 car possible for $145 of stuff you can throw at a glorified toy.

MPC 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee

Well the body is from long ago, AMT/Ertl mixed in a modern platform interior and chassis/engine in the 1990s. -
Ghost Kits - Shown But Never Released
niteowl7710 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The MG kits exist as I have both of them in Aoshima boxes, there are little race versions of both of them as well. They belonged to a "Euro Series" that Aoshima did that was a bunch of reboxed stuff. Four MGs from Airfix, the RevellAG Jaguar XK120, and Mercedes 230 Station Wagon. As mentioned American SATCO was the U.S. Distributor for Aoshima at the time and they sold a few Aoshima kits in their own packaging and make resin lump "LHD Conversions" for several other Aoshima kits. -
Italeri 2017 releases

They're someone's rubbish alright, but the IMAI tooling is owned by Aoshima and they've actively released both versions in the past 18 months. -
Spielwaren Messe Neurenberg 2017 + Pictures!
niteowl7710 replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here are the kit contents. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10215269/10/0 Similar to other efforts by Tamiya to repackage old kids in new boxes (this has new P/E), like the Gr. 5 Capri that's an old motorized kit that for reissued the same year. Or the various "new" Porsche 956 with new liveries over the years, but that kit was tooled up in 1984. -

The Tamiya kits are also very basic 50 piece curbsides from 30+ years ago, and these are full detail and of course being aimed at a European audience. They clearly made the required profit off their Mini Cooper and VW Beetle kits that were ever so slight variations on existing Tamiya kits. -

Well it's an industry trade show that's not open to the public. So this is more about suppliers and vendors meeting and showing wares than it really is product announcements and whatnot. -

ICM does have an WWI era ambulance Model T kit, but it's in 1/35 scale. -

One thing I don't see in those pictures, that I did see in someone elses is the Talbot Record is being reissued by Heller. I was hoping once this mass reissue campaign started they'd get around to kicking it back out as well. -
Revell Reissued 57 Chevy Black Widow wrong body ?
niteowl7710 replied to kingiguana's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Makes sense that if the Bel Air came after the 150, and that was the last way the body tooling was run in 2010, AND they changed vendors it might not have been known that the wrong body sides were still in the tool. Now who got the advanced run of the kit Stateside, and didn't bother to inspect to make sure it was correct...that's another story. I mean the reissue was late as it was - since it was a 4Q release and didn't come out until January. That extra (at least) 30 days should have been used for better things. -
Italeri 2017 releases

Well if this is what you're looking for in a model - have at it. Again the Hasegawa kit is 100% better and is still a curbside. -

niteowl7710 replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The Italeri one is an incredibly crude curbside. Better off going for the Hasegawa one if you don't mind a curbside with better detail. Or go off hunting for one of the Enthusiast Series Fujimi ones if you want full detail. -

It's the Auto World Store warehouse, they sell everything - or well everything domestic anyways, the same way "Revell" Tower Hobbies does. -
Revell Reissued 57 Chevy Black Widow wrong body ?
niteowl7710 replied to kingiguana's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Quite possible the 1912 kit is the SnapTite kit now that I look at the numbering. I can't disprove your release order, but it just seems to be the '57 Bel Air (and not the 1973 kit) has been around for awhile, and then it was modified into the 150/Black Widow to cash in on the vintage NASCAR craze that Moebius started with the Hudson & 300, and then again "modified" into the Convertible. Obviously I'm misremembering the time line. But it does seem quite silly that Revell perma-modified the body into the Bel Air after the 150 and then didn't remember doing that.
