I've run across a contest that claimed swapping decals disqualified what I was entering as OTB, I still placed anyways against the full detail builds. But no OTB/Box Stock class should allow you to wire the engine. Or flock the floor. Or do anything other than drill out the exhaust and taper/thin parts to scale. Otherwise there's no point to the class. The whole point is to build what comes in the kit and only what comes in the kit. Even that has gotten so dicey lately IPMS re-wrote the rules on their OTB to be specifically single-media (aka no P/E, turned metal, etc). So many tanks come with metal or 3D printed tracks, metal barrels, sheets of P/E and so on that OTB was losing it's meaning.

History of MPC's Rounded Line Trucks
niteowl7710 replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
They obviously have a GM license with all of the Novas that have been done/are coming next. Getting licensing approval on a new project isn't something that done until GM signs off on the final product, they always have the final right of refusal. The box art for the Galaxie Limited Fleetmaster Coupe was famously tied up for months because of a debate over how much/little clothing the lady washing the car had on... -
Your overarching 30k foot idea is a good one, however it unfortunately doesn't mesh with the reality of how model tooling exists in the real world. The 90s era '32 Ford tooling (3W, 5W, Roadster, Tudor & Speedwagon) exist as their own ecosystem with the body tools and the various engines and wheels being the swappable inserts. When the kit is run there's a certain fixed part of the kit that comes out no matter what kit is being run. My earlier point being on that base tool that all the inserts fit into - there is no more room for further inserts. So if they created the parts you suggest, they'd have to pull something else out - which means you'd only get one set of wheels or one engine option. I haven't sat down with all of the kits lately in front of me, it's quite possible you can't pull out those inserts without losing more than just a wheel set or engine, it might also lose part of the suspension or interior, or body parts specific to the wheel/kit set as well. More broadly you can't "swap" kits like you're suggesting. You'd have to run both tools in their entirety, mix and match the parts you wanted and then scrap the rest. That's labor consuming on both racking and running 2 tools for one kit, plus the actual manual labor of physically sorting and packing the right parts with the end product. Tooling can't be run without inserts (aka "Just run the body") because the plastic won't flow through the mold correctly.

While I understand your sentiment, the whole reason the "Rat Roaster" was new tooling is because the original '32 Ford tooling ran out of room to add more inserts. So aside from the cost of making new parts, there just isn't any room to put new parts in the kit.

I am ready for 2k
niteowl7710 replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd take the step to put that vent into a piece of plywood or something similar, so you have a functionally closed window. 2K is shiny atomized super glue, if you spray it with that window standing open like that it's going to wind up looking like a breaded chicken cutlet as every bit of dust, floof, fuzz, and pollen swirling around your basement is going to land in it. -
Revell 2022 Corvette Stingray C8 Z5

The M4 has been floating around since Shizouka last year and it'll probably be 2027 before it sees the light of day, even n if NuNu insists it'll be out before the end of 2024. Tell anyone that's been waiting for 4 years to see that 2018 "Pink Pig" RSR 911 to arrive about blown delivery dates. The M4 is also going to come as Sheldon van der Linde's 2022 DTM Championship car out of the box, so you'll need LB Production or S.K. Decals to fill in the gap as usual. One would expect the C8 from Revell because they've kitted the past 3 generations of Corvette, and they have am extensive working relationships with Pratt & Miller from those kits. -
Revell 2022 Corvette Stingray C8 Z5

Since WEC & IMSA adopted the GT3 specs to supersede the GTE/GT LM rules, the Vette is racing in GTWC, IMSA, and everything else. It's a full-on Customer Racing platform now, not something being confined to "Factory" Works teams the way the prior iterations of the Corvette had been...still I get the indication that Revell doesn't have any interest in making a racing version of it. I'm not sure how well the prior Corvette racing kits have sold, or the Ford GT, but a lot of it would come down to how bad GM wants to see it get done, and the C8.GT3 actually doing something special during the seasons. Maybe if it dominated GT3 LM this summer... -

Last time I asked about that, back when the C8.R was still a thing, I was told point blank - No. Presuming the same still goes for the C8.GT3 that's the global racing platform now. -

When you say "NNL Show in Ohio", do you mean the one in Toledo? Because the answer to that would be never. The last NNL in Toledo took place in 2019. -
NuNu is back with a test shot of their upcoming BMW M4 GT3 after showing rapid prototypes the past two shows. Also showing parts for the long promised 2018 911RSR GTE kit which should finally be released this summer.
-
Hasegawa also has their updated (or in this case backdated) 1966 Isuzu Bellett on display. Slew of new body & interior pieces for sliding the 1969 kit back 3 years.
-
Aoshima once again has their new line of 180SX kits on display. Billed as a 1996 Type X the black one will be the "Option Wheel" version which is sporting a set of wheels from an R33 GT-R. Gimmicks in the kit include the open/closed headlights and normal/low-down ride heights.
-
*RHD Yeah I think Aoshima is really missing the boat there, aside from an optional wheel kit, and a series of decal revised offerings from the manga SF Ghost, there's nothing that makes their kit any different that the Tamiya kit that's been around for almost 2 years now. Unless it's coming later not doing an Export Version is a hot pile of disappointment considering the first gen 86 was so export specific there was a Europe specific 86GT and North America specific Scion in the box.
-
Well I mean there's a 1/20 AND 1/28 version of the S10, what more could one want? Actually they can do a new S12 too while there at so those nearly as old Aoshima & Fujimi tools can be buried in the doldrums of motorized history.
-
The parts being shown at the show are the same ones shown in the earlier thread posted here. They did not include the entire kit.

My NNL East show haul. Alright so no one was selling the Miku Z4, but I picked it up from a friend who shared a co-order, so I say it counts. Stuff in the left column I purchased to replace old original 90s Monogram releases I had sold off. They were pretty musty and dusty after all of those years and I yearned for fresh decals.

Revell 2022 Corvette Stingray C8 Z5

Yes the C8 Vettes are being built RHD from the factory for the first time. No more expensive after-delivery in-country conversions. GM sold 300 RHD Vettes in Japan in less than 3 days when it was announced the cars would be RHD straight off the boat. For the kit since the C8 is mid-engined and the "frunk" is molded shut creating a RHD set up is a dashboard, center console, pedals, and scuttle panel/wipers. The way the car/kit are with a flat chassis aero plate you don't get/see the parts of the front suspension that would different (aka mirrored steering column/box). -
Most recent box from the Links of Hobbies in Japan Also got talked into this Alpha Models kit because I got a bit of a discount. Who could say no? ?

Next two months or so was what was intimated at NNL East. -

Handy if you live in the UK I'm sure. However for U.S. Delivery there's a 17.24£ shipping which once you account for the currency exchange comes out to over $63USD. So...for most here that in fact is not at all a cheaper place.

Couple of things from the past weeks. Box in from HobbyEasy that has the latest NuNu reissue of their Audi R8 GT3. This has the revised Evo II rear spoiler (no more $25 resin conversions). Also got the kit's designated P/E set. Two sets from Shunko, the Clarion is a newly done sheet, the Loctite is a reprint. Both replace the kit decals in the corresponding older Tamiya kits. Also the new interior Carbon Fiber sheets for the MENG version of the Audi R8 GT3. Nominally a little more important than doing the same on the NuNu kit as the MENG kit has opening doors. Lastly for this update 3 of the newest sets of decals from S.K. Decals. You'll need some brand new resin bits from ZoomOn to fully convert the NuNu 320i to how each of the liveries ran in 1:1. The Hello Kitty decals fit the above referenced NuNu R8.
