The other police car guy to the rescue! Here's the orange graphics. 2005 was the last year for the white graphics.

All of the various version of this kit were discussed in great detail with Art in the chat room many months ago. Apparently when it isn't the pit of all the evil that permeates MCM, it occasionally has interesting and informative discussions. If anyone didn't know about the convertible version or any of the other versions, lack of participation on your part, doesn't constitute an emergency on Moebius'

£200 what do I buy with it??
niteowl7710 replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well I can't speak for Jim, but I would certainly send you pictures of everything I bought, so you had the piece of mind of knowing all the joy your money brought to me. -
Absolutely great job! I too have one of these in the pile and echo Ken's thoughts about having it come out as well.

Maybe I'm way off the mark here, but at $10, I can't see where it's economically (or legally for that matter) viable to make a resin copy of this thing.

Hyattsville, MD Ford Taurus Interceptor "Concept"
niteowl7710 replied to miatamadman's topic in Model Cars
Well Wal*Mart has been carrying them, but so far I've only found the black slicktop unmarked version there. Jeff Halpern at www.policecarmodels.com has all of the version in stock. Zoli -- Nice job, I like that blue better than Hyattsville's current cars too! I notice you didn't strip this one. Didn't want to have that fight again? -
Alright let me see if I understand what you said in that veritable tsunami of ellipses. If anyone dares ask you why you do, or don't do something they're a bully? Now I have come to expect from following your builds on here that you don't feel it necessary to answer for yourself. Also as Mike stated above, you build the way you want and that's fantastic. But sir, I believe it to be a long way between someone who asks a question of a tactic or procedure you followed and them bashing and/or bullying you. If you want to have a braided line erupting from the top of your alternator, huzzah party at John's place. But if someone asks you about it we get a a re-enactment of the Wizard of Oz, where we have to talk to the guy at the door to get in and then are told to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. You're thought of as a world class builder by many if not all the people here. You're dare I say famous, with builds in the magazines, and GSL Best of Show awards. Perhaps it's unfair for the unwashed to expect you to build everything to those standards, but a lot of people here would like to learn from you. The only way they can is if they "get inside your head" so to speak. Why is the driveshaft sponsored? "I dunno, I thought it looked good.", would be an answer. But instead we're shook off like fleas with overarching generalizations about "building for myself" and "Non-accurate this, that or the others". To boil it down what I got out of that was "Kiss my butt and lick my boot-heels and you're my friend, dare to question me and I will resort to throwing out tired cliches and call you names." I'll come out and say it, that's a crappy attitude to have. What did I learn from the world class modeler today? How to accept gushing meaningless praise and deflect criticism. I can see all sorts of ways to apply that in my life.

Ack it's a French langolier!!! Run before it eats all of the past!

If you're accessing this site with Firefox, the built in browser spell check functions just fine. I have to believe that some people are just ignoring the pretty little squiggles under their words, or don't know why they're there. If that is you, right click on the word, and you will be given several choices of things it thinks that gibberish you typed really is; more than likely one of them is correct (or at least more gooder) than the word you assassinated. Ain't gonna do nothin' for your grammar though. So it can't fix the read/red, it's/its, they're/there/their problems.

Can you keep a secret??
niteowl7710 replied to justin2020's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Congrats! I got one about to burst forth any minute...we're down to the last few weeks and mom is not happy about things, she just wants the kid OUT OF HER! -
1996 Ford Crown Victoria P71 Interceptor- LAPD Detectives car
niteowl7710 replied to Nick Winter's topic in Model Cars
P70 is the designation for the slightly longer wheelbase taxis that were specific to NYC. If you ever look at a CVPI and a P70 taxi side by side you'll notice the rear door on your taxi is several inches longer than a regular Crown Vic. -
His last cars were the #66 K-Mart/Rt 66 Jeans Tauruses in 2000. Although I thought the most interesting set of #17 cars are the Revell/Racing Reflections L.E. kits that were from '97/'98 that were all sponsored via Parts America (what Western Auto became known as) but were painted in several of his old paint styles from his Budweiser, Pepsi, Mountain Dew & Gatorade sponsorships.

Duplicolor paint / clear question
niteowl7710 replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As Matt mentioned the biggest issue is, much like the movie Ghostbusters, NEVER CROSS THE STREAMS! That means stick within one genre of paint over large areas. Either all enamel or all lacquer. Mixing the two will give results like Matt is describing. I've yet to see any difficulties painting acrylic or enamels over their primer once it gases out. Dupli-Color is a "paint system", it's designed to go primer, color, clear. There's not a lot of use for the Red Oxide primer other than 60's GM chassis pans, and if you want to paint something red, or other really dark color (but not black, cause red & black make a brownish tinted black). I use the white primer under white, and any light shade of paint. Gray can go under most anything you don't want to tint one way or the other. The only use for Primer Sealer as mentioned is to "seal out" a color that will bleed through. -
Oh Rob I never said I agreed with it, or even think it's vaguely a good idea. Even down here in the states were we aren't getting shanghaied on the prices, their shelf "MSRP" is usually $2-4 more than my LHS sells the same kits for...and other than supplies for a project my kid had to do for Science class before school ended I never shop there unless I have a coupon. The selection of kits at my store is pathetic, and hasn't seemed to turn over in almost a year, but I've slowly been accumulating kits I otherwise wouldn't pay full retail at my LHS (there are so many other kits I'd rather buy to support my guy), because with the coupon it's $10.71 out the door with tax. THAT is a loss leader as Doug was explaining it.

Not to argue, but I know for a fact the re-seller wholesale price (the price Hobbytown USA offers it to smaller hobby shops and vendors) of that kit is about $15, so at $17.50 "discount" they're still making money. Since HTUSA is making a profit on that re-sale, it's costing Michael's even less per unit at direct sale from Hobbico, so at $35 they're just hosing you down and kicking you out of the store laughing the entire time.

KY is testing both at KSP (I know of at least one marked as well Ken **EDIT - I see Steve found a picture of it while I was typing this up) and Louisville Metro several CIVILIAN Tauruseseseses (Taursi?), they are not actual police package vehicles, as they will not start rolling off the line until after the usual model year changeover shutdown that most manufacturers usually do in July. Ford offered one to test at MSP & LASO testing this year, but it was a "prototype" and was not "officially" tested. Ed the "Five Hundred" name hasn't been used since 2008, that failed experiment of giving everything a "F" name was ended then by Mulally as everyone knew what a Taurus was, but no one associated "Five Hundred" with Ford...which I realize is sacrilege to a car guy, but lets face it no soccer mom cares about heritage from the 1960's. The deputy you talked to is correct, the car will be offered in V-6 FWD (Taurus), and twin-turbocharged V-6 AWD (Taurus SHO) packages. As always it will be interesting to see how these cars really fare. The last Taurus based police car sold like a curse-laden fart in the middle of communion at church, and so has every other FWD car. This Taurus has more room and power, but it's still driving the wrong wheels for a lot of people, and the AWD has to come with the big motor and that's a $$$ option in times of tight budgets. To this day Dodge still sells a lot more V-6 Chargers than Hemis for the same reason. Yeah it's got a Hemi, comes with Yeah a higher price tag. Will also be interesting to see how many departments adopt the Caprice this year. In 2012 it's getting a V-6 option, and the much needed column shifter. So far this year the only departments I know that have gotten any in are the LAPD, and a county sheriff north of Valdosta, GA. While several states and numerous municipalities have the new Chargers already out lurking about the streets and highways.

People hate eBay because some of the sellers suffer from hallucinations? I wouldn't give him $1 for it...the box seems to be more strips of cardboard, and what happened to the roof? It looks like it set out in the sun too long. On the second one I'll give him the $5.00 the price tag on the top says...

Maryland State Police Ford Taurus Police Interceptor
niteowl7710 replied to miatamadman's topic in Model Cars
Not to derail this...but the new PI starts production in the fall, as a 2012 model. If the Carbon ever sees the light of day (I simply refuse to believe they have the pre-orders they say they do, it would represent almost 30% of the market for a car that technically doesn't exist) it will not be out until 2013. I wouldn't surprise me one bit to see this creation on the road next Spring. Since MD only ever bought that one Charger, and hasn't had any GM cars since the Caprice was retired...but then it had Caprices for a LONG TIME before that...so perhaps. Great job Zoli! -
Is styrene carcinogenic?
niteowl7710 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I die from styrene related cancer, does that mean my family has to use that horrible cliche "He died doing what he loved"? -
Holy Nose-Bleed Batman! Gotta love those well detailed interiors! (and I mean the kit's molding, not your painting). Does that thing come with an aluminum extension ladder to get up into that bunk? How about some hospital bed rails, that looks like a long fall into a narrow opening! :)
