  1. Not only do they have all the modern high-tech cop goodies, but they're a fairly complete (read no snap-tite curbside here)kit too, the civi-versions were like 155 parts. A case is 6 @ $20...$120 isn't going to break me, I spend more than that for food at truck stops during the week.
  2. Shut up no they aren't... O.K. so maybe they are, but until I have one in my hands, and/or see one in someone elses hands here on the board I refuse to believe this myth, this legend is finally coming to fruition. Wonder if this means I have to cover my pre-order on the case of Blank white ones...
  3. Went to the only Hobby Lobby I know of that has on-site truck specific parking (Laredo, TX) and got the current issue of the Revell 1941 Chevy P/U and an Aoshima Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG (40% coupon goodness). Waiting on a 4 pack of pick-up truck kits from eBay gotta make the wife head over and check the P.O. Box tomorrow.
  4. I got scraped by the Western edge of this storm in Wyoming last night...you all can have it, I've never been so glad to be in Oregon I'll enjoy the 50 degree sunny day tomorrow, let me know how deep that snow gets!
  5. I have more kits downstairs than I'm willing to admit that have completely assembled engines...and Ooooo SHIIIIINEY...this thing is in the way, I'll put it back in the box and finish it later.
  6. So what you're saying is that your builds are done by chicken obsessed creepy little girls?
  7. Well for me the vast majority of my pre-existing kit collection came from carefully orchestrated bribery from my parents during high school. My mom somewhere read you should pay your kids about $5 for "A"s to motivate them. Well you know what else was about $5-7 in the early 90's. So instead of money I parlayed it into 4 trips a year (H.S. was orientated around 9 week grading periods) to Trumbull Camera & Hobby a year. (As a side note in the late '90's they dropped the hobby part, and tried to go solo camera store...that lasted 2 years and the closed...pwn'd). So for those 100+ kits, I don't have a dime tied up in them... My mom started to wonder if her plan was a good one once the kits reached the ceiling from the old kitchen table I built on in the basement. In my defense it was a drop ceiling While I did build quite a bit of those "bribe" kits, obviously a lot more survived into a few moves around Ohio and then into a storage locker for 7 years. Now they have seen the light of day again in my basement. I have started to trade off the "I have no idea why I bought this" kits, but the rest I would actually like to build. Sure I have a 14 1/2 year supply of models, and I'm still buying new kits to boot, but as Mike pointed out a few posts up it's not a boat, jetski, ATV, RV/Camper, or a 1:1 money pit "restoration". Although I've limited myself to getting truly new (or at least new-to-me) kits, and filling in stuff I built (read - ruined) as a teenager. For the guys who have multiples of the same kit (at least for me) it tends to be "build one of what this kit is" and then the rest are... 1) Variation base...maybe a 6cyl Duster, or a base model Biscayne... 2) Base Kit...I'm guilty of this...I have 24 Lindberg Crown Vics...which will eventually be 24 different police cars. NASCAR builders are especially guilty of this too. I have to believe there are close to 500 decals sheets floating around, but they only made maybe 2 dozen kit variations (not counting limited/collector/50th Anniversary editions) of 90's-present cars. 3) Donor Kit...either a new chassis/drivetrain for an older annual/reissue or underpinnings for a resin project.
  8. Merry Christmas to ME! The GTO & Impala are courtesy of my Mom & Dad's gift of CASH! The Starliner I picked up as a bribe from my wife to go do the grocery shopping and get her Chinese food.
  9. OoooOOOoooo I like that shade of blue!!
  10. Chris there's no need to withdraw really, this build goes through the end of 2011. I would hope whatever curve ball life has tossed you way isn't going to effect you for the entire year. Ditto made me do a double-take!
  11. Sounds like things are just cycling around to me. Afterall I can point you to any number of "Blizzard of 19xx" here in Pittsburgh during the 40's & 50's...then the big snows seemed to go away until we got that 28 inches at one time last March. To me Global Warming isn't a political issue as much as common sense. How can I possibly believe some forecast of what's allegedly going to happen in 50 years, when my local weather guy can't even forecast 3 days in advance correctly? I dunno exactly where we spun into a "worst thing that ever happened to ME" as being the yardstick of measurement. I mean if the science is correct all of the continents were once attached to one another, everything was covered in ice, and then the majority of the South West was well under water. Why aren't we actively searching for a solution for when the continents finally drift far enough to run into each other again? We measly humans like to think we're so important, but in the grand scheme of things one of those super volcanoes could sneeze tomorrow and we'll just be fossils in a few years.
  12. That's not snow, that's ice. Yeah there's a dose of snow on the road, but I'm betting there's a 1/4 in or more of ice underneath of it. Anyone who deals with that in the winter knows that snow isn't slippery, heck the way to get up that hill would be to drive on the snow that hasn't been touched. Also not riding your brakes backwards in a total panic would be helpful as well...
  13. Well now I clearly see that while I'm repossessing your build desk TV, I'm gonna have to take a few shelves too. Hoarding all the good stuff!!
  14. I bought 2 cases of the Lindberg Crown Victoria during the first production runs, but that was 10-12 years ago, when a Lindberg case (12 kits) only cost $120. There's nothing out there currently that peaks my interest enough to have more than one kit at a time of right now...if Lindberg were to ever ship the '06 Charger Police kit, or anyone were to do an '11 Charger Police, '11 Caprice Police, or '12 Taurus Police kit then I might reinspect my purchasing trends. Law Enforcement modeling (like NASCAR) is all about having "blanks" to put decals onto...I also bought I guess what would be 2 cases of the Revell Caprice (since I got 12, and Revell cases are 6) 6 PD, 6 Fire/Taxi when they were on clearance at Hills (anyone else remember Hills Department Stores) for $3 a piece.
  15. I got a new sweatshirt from the vollie fire department my M-i-L sponsors via her regular patronage at their club (read private bar), which is cool cause it's the only piece of apparel they sell I hadn't got yet. I got several pair of flannel lounge/pajama pants and two great "anti-Christmas" shirts from my F-i-L/Step M-i-L. One is red and says Bah Humbug and the other is green and is the Grinch's face. My wife and I exchange goofy little stuff this year. I got her Sex and the City 2 DVD, and I got the WoW (World of Warcraft) Cataclysm Expansion a few weeks ago. My 8 year old split between us, "Santa", and 3 sets of grandparents could open a Toys 'R Us in her bedroom tonight! We got some $$$ from those associated people and my parents as well. But oddly enough my parents gave us cash individually this year, usually they've been getting us gift cards to Lowe's or Home Depot, and I figured there'd be another one with a nursery to build. But I was pleasantly surprised with a cool, crisp $50. Since we each got separate money, I'm taking MY money, and MYSELF to the LHS on Monday and getting myself something nice for Christmas before it get's stolen and deposited and spent on something sensible like the phone bill or groceries
  16. I have a few CBPs I've entered, plus I want to wrap up the stuff I started in the fall. I also hope to have this done by the end of July.
  17. Define "They just don't set up"...Is it a question of two parts that need to be glued together and the tension is breaking the glue bond, or that things just don't see to be sticking otherwise? I've found that on occasion where parts are fiddly and there aren't good "peg and hole" mounting, that gravity is your friend. Make sure you hold the joint for the prescribed amount of time on the package(I usually do at least a slow count of 15), make sure the alignment is correct and to your liking, and then prop the part up against a paint bottle or the side of the box to orientate it so that it can't fall off without a sudden cessation of the earth's rotation and give it a few hours to totally dry before handling it again. If it's a tension problem then rubber bands, pony-tail holders (having a wife and 8 y/o daughter I have a variety of sizes to choose from), gentle use of one of those "pistol grip" clamp guns, or if you really want to go all out they make a magnetic gig set up. Regardless any of those techniques will hold the parts under tension until the glue dries. One the resin side of the equation...if you really want all the chemical make-up details one of our resin casters we have around here can break downs the in and outs of the differences between resin and styrene plastic. But they are different, for example you must use CA or epoxy glue, regular model glue doesn't work. Resin parts, transkits, or model kits are "home made", in so much as they are talented individuals who make the molds and pour the resin to create these items. Either scratch-building the pieces, or relying on someone to supply masters, they traditionally represent parts that either are no longer available, are a more detailed version of existing kit parts, or were NEVER available in kit form. They are "limited" in supply as most resin companies are a one or two man operations. Quality can be as good, if not better than the big kit companies, but then some are chunks of unusable blobbage. If you want to know about a particular company or item, check out the Resin section or ask around, chances are around here you can get the answer you need.
  18. In the past couple of weeks I've gotten these on trade. Clockwise from BeeMopar, BigBlockLyle, & MrChevelle respectively. Thanks guys enjoy your new kits (especially Lyle's who took a 3 day scenic tour of Illinois before getting there)
  19. Have you happened to order anything off him in the past say...3-4 years? He and I were just getting to know each other back then, and scheming on some decal ideas when he had the longest consecutive string of bad luck I've ever personally witnessed that included numerous computer disasters (both hardware & software) and a messy personal situation. I have not seen his website open to new orders since then. I would really like to see him come back online as his decals are fabulous.
  20. Add me in here with a Lindberg 1966 Chevelle SS...mayhaps something else too, I'll let ya know.
  21. I think your friend Ed might have gotten hit one too many times by a sticky sopping wet pony...
  22. Just to show I haven't fallen off the face of the earth and forgotten about this... I'm amazed at how fiddly that 4 piece exhaust is...teeny-tiny mounting pegs...took several attempts to get it all together and sticking where it was supposed to (and I suspect there is more fiddling to come when I mount the engine)...I know this is next to no update, but the Testors Acrylic Steel that I used for some color differentiation took like 18,000,000 coats to cover. In the mean time I have most of the suspension parts painted and ready, and the engine just needs some final detail painting to be ready. So if I can shake the funk I've been in, I can have it from this, to completed chassis in about an hour... Hey Matt...should that saddle tank be aluminum with black hold down straps? To me it needs some color, or it just might be the trucker in me that thinks all tanks should be brushed aluminum or chrome...figure you have one outside...
