  1. I dunno that cat looks about done to me. Some detail painting on the tail perhaps? You totally can knock that out before Jan 1st!!
  2. I think there's always going to be a collector vs. builder culture clash in this hobby. Many builders unwittingly turn into collectors because we end up buying way more kits than we can ever practically build in a lifetime. Either because of the subject matter, that "Now I have a project for THIS!" idea, or we're just neater versions of the TV show Hoarders. Collectors on the other hand tend to break into two categories. The "professional" collector is someone who knows his subject material, and knows what it's worth. He/She buys, trades, and sells based on actual, not perceived value. They are also the ones who have the Obi-Wan "millions of voices cried out in terror..." moment when you tell them you're going to build that collectible kit The other ones, the "amateur" collectors, are the people who've seen too many episodes of Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Auction Kings, and Antiques Roadshow. They read the stories about people finding things in their attics worth millions of dollars, and by golly they have some of that stuff too. They just know it's old, and that instantly means RARE, which MUST MEAN VALUABLE!!!!! Sadly these people seem to have taken up permanent residence on eBay. I can't tell you the amount of "RARE, HARD TO FIND, ONE OF A KIND" mid-90's AMT/Ertl kits I've seen lately. Almost all of them have been reissued multiple times (some in the past couple of years). Almost all with "Buy It Now"s, universally priced higher than most current Japanese import kits. There is one guy who has, for the past 6 months, been trying to sell a pair of AMT/Ertl Chevy Beretta kits for $50 a pop. My grandfather told me "No matter what it is, from a toy, to a car, to your house, what you think it's worth, and what someone else is willing to pay for it are rarely ever the same price". However I believe this individual with the $1,100 kit falls into the category of "Motivated - Non Seller". He priced it that high not because it's "worth" that much, but rather it's higher than anyone would pay for it, so he's not gonna sell it. Read the description, in there he mentions having to sell his stuff because of another $*#%$ (mods please note, just quoting the auction, not fake cursing). Sounds like he has a wife (or soon to be ex-wife) who is making him liquidate. So he's put everything on eBay (his other auctions are overpriced too) at ridiculously inflated prices so none of it sells, and he can be "Well I tried to sell them, but no one bid, what can I do, the economy sucks"...
  3. You can get Clear Red and Clear Orange directly from Tamiya. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/category.php?sub-id=56000|59000|61500|64000|64900
  4. If Nissan can claim a copyright (or trademark) it would be to the "GT-R" name, not GTR. In addition there have been 17 other cars and motorcycles that have used some format of GT-R or GTR. Meanwhile on the other side of the legal ledger, Carrol Shelby was only in contract with AC from 1961-1967. At the time he was only stuffing a Ford engine into an existing car (yeah, yeah it was more complicated than that, but for the simple Cliff Notes version...) AC continued to exist on and off, and (on and off) make a car that to this day still looks identical to the 1960's car. Albeit today it has Corvette motivation (IIIIIIIIIIIIRONY!) If Shelby could sue anyone based on what a car looked like it would be them...but he reached an agreement with them (AC) that allows Shelby to be the only one who can call that format of the car a "Cobra". Based on the information on Iconic's website they are now in a cooperative agreement to use the AC name with their bloated $600,000 kit car. I don't see anywhere where they themselves call their car a Cobra, just the person who titled the video upload on YouTube.
  5. I'm gonna "cheat" and start mine too! What's more random parts on the desk? While I research proper coloring for the trailer (since Galaxie doesn't have any kind of color guide on it's instructions), I started the F-350. The instructions start with the chassis, but I decided to crack the box open and start the engine. Look I started another project! So I eventually got the chassis out and the frame rails from the end of the cab pan back where a crater filled, sink hole riddle extravaganza! (Winston be sure to check your's FYI)...so I had to slather a load of putty on both sides. Got it cleaned up and ready for paint Now in flat black and ready to start the instructions from Step 1
  6. You can mail it via surface mail. Aerosol Paint Products. Aerosol paint products that are defined as flammable compressed gases are acceptable in the domestic mail via surface transportation only if they can qualify as ORM–D materials and meet the quantity limitations and applicable packaging requirements in 342.3, 342.4, and DMM 601.10.12. A single can of spray paint qualifies under both ORM-D and limited quantities. You need go to your post office and see exactly how they want it packaged and labeled, but the general gist is it has to be inside a sealed plastic or metal container that would capture the entire contents of the can if it somehow discharged in transit.
  7. If it wasn't stolen it's around a sort center somewhere. Buffalo is less than 500 miles from Philly, so that package was never involved with an airplane transfer. Not sure this was asked yet, but has the recipient ever gone to THEIR local Post Office and asked for the package? Could be a simple case of having a substitute route delivery person attempt to make delivery and then not leave the "You have mail" yellow card, and that poor box has been languishing down at the post office for weeks. I know around here my normal postal lady will not just leave a package on a stoop. Unlike my UPS driver who doesn't even knock on the door, and leaves boxes in random places (sometimes on the front porch, sometimes on the side, sometimes in the garage...)
  8. I gotta have cars for the hauler...which is a mutant plan for a diorama depending on how into the idea I get.
  9. Most contest I have gone to in the past (when I lived in Ohio) and now (that I'm in PA) have a Box Stock Class. The exception being the Olde Potbelly Gang's Show, which is a total People's Choice award system. No sense in having one there since no one is individually judging things. Remember that just because you built it for Box Stock/OOB doesn't mean you can't enter it in a different category it fits into, if you like your chances better in the other class.
  10. Count me in with this car hauling hot shot rig.
  11. Kevin...right click on the picture in your FB alblum, then select "View Image Info". That will bring up a new window and copy the image link (ends with .jpg) and then post onto MCM via the IMG tags...viola!
  12. The B-M Chevelle I got with my 50% Mikey's coupon, the other stuff is my haul from the Olde Potbelly Gang's show in Pittsburgh today. Last local show till March 2011, I am now appropriately stocked up.
  13. Zero, Nada, Nil, El Zippo!! But I hope to have 1-3 done by the end of the year. We have a nice week of clear mid-60's weather coming up for outdoor painting.
  14. This is the one I have...actually I have two of them as I thought I had lost the original one when everything went into storage. http://www.micromark.com/MICRO-MESH-FINISHING-KIT,7601.html
  15. It was Halloween and yesterday (10/31 & 11/1)...found out by accident by looking at the online circular.
  16. There was a 2-Day "Halloween" 50% off sale at Michael's, so I snuck over to get my requisite $10 model kit Best part I got another 50% coupon with my receipt...so I guess I will make another trip over next weekend too.
  17. Go over to www.policecarmodels.com they'll have the decals you need. They also have a 1:27 diecast '08 Tahoe from Welly. http://policecarmodels.com/we120chtapos.html
  18. Why was your thread involved in a tragic kiln explosion? Alright to stop being ya know, and be helpful...I don't think anything here has ever been deleted other than those threads that get a little too lively. Go out to the main page for General (or wherever the thread was originally posted) and scroll down to the bottom and you'll see a little link that says "Click here to show filter options". Click on that, then a box will appear with a sort function, select the first drop down box that says "Show Type" and select "Topics: I Started" then hit the "Go" button. The General forum will then reload with only topics you personally created, and I'm sure all the information you're looking for is sitting there all lonely awaiting your return.
  19. I've found that if I just turn on my tap all the way on hot till is starts steaming, it gets plenty warm to do the job. As someone who once boiled the water out of a pot I was going to make Mac N Cheese with I hesitate recommending actually leaving something on a stove. I have a little tupper-ware wanna-be container that's about as deep as a standard Testors can, and about twice as round. Put the can in the hot water and let it sit for about 2-3 minutes (or until the can is warm), then shake it up and head outside. The one thing I hate dealing with is the smell of Testors enamel primer...that stuff stinks for a week (or until you paint over it).
  20. There wasn't exactly much from Round 2 that interested me other than the reissue of 1965 Chevelle Station Wagon. Anxiously awaiting all 3 Moebius kits... From Revell I'm looking forward to the previously announced 2010 Mustang and... 2010 Camaro SS '69 COPO Nova '62 Impala SS Ferrari 458 Italia Ferrari California Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Remember that the iHobby releases only cover 1st & 2nd Quarters of 2011. There's a whole nother half year of goodness yet to come. Wouldn't be surprised to see several more Mustang issues upcoming including a 2011 GT with the correct 5.0 engine, maybe the GT-500, the new BOSS 302...lotta options there. Also be interested to see if they issue a Camaro Convertible, and/or do anything with the ZR-1 tooling (a Z06, Grand Sport, or convertible since the last set of Vette issues are 5-6 model years old).
  21. Reminds me of the time I had to strip the hood on a '62 Belair 409 kit 5 times before the paint would stop acting all wonky around the top edge. It was like crazing, except no actual damage was done. But you hung in there and got it done finally, and that's the most important part. I too have one of the '63 Ford kits sitting around, be interested to see what you do with yours.
  22. Found this at Wal*Mart today for $9.99...was looking for a Diplomat, but this will suffice. Haven't taken it apart to see how much work it needs yet...
